Jajajajaaj true that. But really, there's a few ways for you to kinda control your cards. Sure, still random, but you have spread and redraw and royal road. I mean, if you dont get a balance or Boyle at all for the boss fights, you're definitely not doing your job well.

it got nerfed so bad and it's the worst healer in the game right now & the most boring class to play. I was so excited to play it too but yeah I'll just stick to my whm.
And now it's topping the healer DPS and barely even understands what mana is anymore.

The most challenging part about astrologian is not healing, or dpsing, but to distribute your cards evenly so you don't make anybody mad.

Only time I ever really look is to check your mp level when I BLM to see if you need a boost.

Aaah noct sect. Hate when you're in party w/ another ast with noct or a scholar and the tank charges in before you can switch your stance and you get locked in noct for the whole fight.

Also, AST is like the most annoying game of solo Go Fish ever. "Do I have a Balance? Nope? Go fish!"
Tardisntimbits give a blm arrow or a brd spear and they’ll love u for life.
All of the AST cards are useful, just gotta know what to do with them. Here's my method:
Bole: The Bole looks like a tree. Trees are made of wood. What do you do with wood? YOU BURN IT!
Ewer: A Ewer is a container for liquids. As the fight goes long, doesn't it sound nice to give yourself a refreshing beverage?
Balance: The Balance looks like a ninja star. EVERYBODY loves ninja stars!
Spear: The Spear looks like a snowflake. Snowflakes are "special," and so they should be given to the "special" kids that think it's a good idea to whip out musical instruments in the middle of a battle.
Arrow: Arrows move really fast. Give this to someone who isn't.
Spire: the Spire looks like a lightning bolt. What happens when something gets hit with a lightning bolt? It gets pissed off and probably dies. Don't curse your friends...always burn this card.
See? It's easy! (The Astrologians that think that none of the cards are useable except balance kinda annoy me.)

I regretfully picked up astrologian after the whole change and I gotta say that this looks so much more interesting than the current card system... Kinda wish there was a way to go back to that

All of the healer changes in both 5.0 and 6.0 absolutely reek of the idea of making them simpler just for the sake of increasing engagement

Astrology - Astrologist - Astrologian. There is somewhat of a precident in the language.
Do people who say Astro-Lowgian also go Bio-Lowgy and Anthropo-Lowgist?
English doesn't quite work that way, and even though Astrologian is a made-up word, it's not pronounced "ass-tr-AWL-oh-jee-an" like Astrology or Astrologist. The end of the word (-ology, -ologist, -ologian) is going to dictate the pronunciation more than anything. It's like "Sike-oh-path" vs "sike-OP-ah-thee"
Also see real words such as:
Theologian (thee-uh-LOH-jee-uh n)
Philologian (fil-uh-LOH-jee-uh n)
Mythologian (mith-uh-LOH-jee-uh n)
Based on this, "ass-truh-LOH-jee-uh-n" would be the correct pronunciation.
Mark Langridge based on that it would actually be pronounced: astro-low-jn (no jhee-uhn)

Incorrect. Firstly, it's not Astrology, it's Astromancy. Astro-mancy > Astro-LoJin. Secondly, Biology is studied by Biologists, not Biologians so that's completely irrelevant and has nothing to do with the pronunciation of Astrologian. If you want an example of "logian" being used as the suffix check out Theology > Theologian (gasp, it follows the same rules as the Astro-lowjin pronunciation). If the class were called Astrologist then that would be different, but that's already a thing that exists. The suffix of the word changes the pronunciation.

Incorrect. It's not Astrology, it's Astromancy. Astro-mancy > Astro-LoJin. Secondly, any word with the logian suffix generally has it's pronunciation altered to match. See: Theology > Theologian or Mythology > Mythologian. It's Astro-LoJin. Not astrologist, not a-strawl-ajin. Astro-lojin.
By your logic, "Theologian" should be pronounced "thee-awlajin" which it is not. It's "Theo-LoJin"

Why what happened to the class?
@@kazenohitori7032 you can't sacrifice a card for effects on the next card you play anymore and every card has essentially the exact same effect. Used to be the bole buffed defense. The sun whatever buffed damage. The arrow buffed action speed. The snowflake/spear buffed crit chance. The ewer gave MP over time. And the Spire gave TP over time. Then you could sacrifice to improve your next card effect. Arrow and spear buffed sacrificed made next card double effect time, bole/tree and sun made next card 150% strength, and ewer and spire sacrificed to make next card an aoe but at half strength.
Also lord and lady aren't random chance anymore.
Divinity is the only point of differentiating cards. Like is it really that hard to memorize what only 6 cards do?
Astrologian in my final fantasy tabletop used all 22 major cards and in my homebrew dnd class uses 76 cards of the 78 card tarot deck.
@@AroBiMarie I roughly understand what u're saying even tho I have not played FFXIV before, but that is very unfortunate since I actually wanted to start playing FFXIV bc of this class :( I can tell how it got nerfed down very much and its special skills got removed which is so sad...I'll still try the class tho to see if it's to my taste after all these nerfs

Pre She astrologian was so fun! I loved it. Once you learned the whole card system it was great. Now, not so much.
I don't play this game much anymore, but, I still log in every day and pull a card on my Astrologian. If it's the Spire, I know it's gonna be a bad day.
5:51 Actually using the AOE damage buff when the boss is at low health is the perfect time to use it. I can't tell you how many times I've see a group wipe on a boss that had only a sliver of health left and would have went down if we only lasted a few more seconds. Having that buff at 10% or lower health all but guarantees we get the nail in that bosse's coffin

@@polydipsiac they said in the newest live letter, which was the dawntrail job changes one, that the draw action will draw 4 cards you can use in any order (we will get 4 seperate play actions), according to the devs words everytime you draw a card you will get a mitigative card (bole or arrow seemingly) a damage buff card (balance or spear) and a curative card ( spire or ewer) along with a lord of crows or lady of crowns. The EXACT effects of the cards arent currently known so were just going of the devs' words and the job action trailer.

I watch this video Just to remember How well designed the old card buffing system was, now It's two buff and the only concern is get three signs for the astrodyne.
