Mai was portried as top duelist in the anime. Sadly, most her on screen duels were loses. Yugi, Joey, Marik and Tea (which in Tea's case Mai held back). Mai did have some wins like Pegasus (only off-screen), Joey (her last duel against him), as well as many duels off-screen in Duel Kingdom and Battle City.

Gravity Bind was weird for Mai. If I remember right she only used it in the duel against Marik and she intended to just stop him killing her (it failed: he played Holding Legs to bounce it to her hand then attacked for lethal with Ra). It was completely incompatible with her deck - I'm pretty sure they only included it for dramatic tension: it appeared being used by later duelists for an actual strategy. Mirror Wall was pretty broken in the anime because it did not require the 2000 life point payment. She used it against Yugi in Duelist Kingdom. They only had 2000 life points in Duelist Kingdom which is probably why the dropped the upkeep cost. Yugi destroyed it with Catapult Turtle... No comment. But it did mess him up for a few turns because "the best duelist in the world" forgot about its effect and attacked into it after it was flipped face-up.
UltimateMarvel1 I remember when Joey’s world release date got announced and I got REALLY excited to play Phoenix Formation and Dancer in Harpies for an upcoming YCS... then I saw the irl effect and played Dragon Rulers instead 😂
Didn't see it mentioned, but she also played Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation. It had a pretty bonkers effect in the anime, where it'd destroy up to as many opponents' monsters as you had Harpie monsters, and then inflict damage equal to the total ATK of every monster destroyed. The only downside was not being able to attack with them that turn. The real card we got was kind of neutered by comparison, since it requires at least 3+ Harpie monsters (not hard to do but still), destroys just as many, but deals damage equal to the highest ATK among the destroyed monsters instead of just the total of everything. It also locks you out of Special Summons from the Main or Extra deck and the Battle Phase the turn you activate it. I don't think anyone plays it.

Since it’s a normal monster you can link it into Imduk thus getting an east dragon aboard and having your channeler be lvl 7 that way if you summon perfumer from it you get a double search and if Oracle is in your hand then a free summon. Very particular and Imduk is really just there to be a dragon.
I'm sure you've had the same thought or mentioned it at some point, but I think part of the reason so many really powerful draw cards were in everyone's decks in the anime is so that they could create tension by someone being "down to two cards, neither of which is a monster" and then pop, say, pot of greed and graceful charity and suddenly be on 3 new stronger cards for the requisite Anime Duel Turnaround.
When it comes to the anime, it seems like anything works for the plot. "Heart of the cards" and all that. But the IRL game largely has been a "all anime decks would be destroyed" thing, lol! Characters had a lot of broken cards, but usually their monsters were lackluster. So IRL players would have the broken cards PLUS would have better monsters. Even the heart of the cards wouldn't save them as their best draws were still outclassed. XD In addition to the cards talked about in the video: Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation may be one to consider since the deck can swarm fairly consistently. Wipes' out monsters and inflicts damage. Though it's probably outclassed by Raigeki, Dark Hole, etc... even in a Harpie Deck because they aren't as situational. Shadow Of Eyes was also a sort of card that may have been very useful in it's time because powerful flip effect monsters were pretty common and they tended to have low attack. Better' to just outright destroy them face down of course, but still something that has a bit of potential. Spell Reproduction could also potentially be something playable because of the similar usage Magical Stone Excavation had. But of course Spell Reproduction is basically a worse version of Magical Stone Excavation because you can't utilize as many discard effects with it.

You mentioned Mirror Wall in the context of Duel Links, dzeeff. YES, it's still being played, and people are chain comboing it with Wall of Disruption, too. For someone trying to improve their skills and just have fun, being bodied by that combo is disheartening. I was TRYING to see how far I could get in the KC Cup this time, but after having that combo done to me, with 3 separate decks in a row, it put me off of it.
What about the 2 spell card she used when she sort of joined Darts? Harpy´s sparrow and phoenix formation. The only experiance i have with yugioh is the anime so they maybe suck outside of the anime but there effects sounded powerful.
Yugioh dm held the filmmakers rule book upside down and read “tell don’t show”. Except, plenty of characters have rolled into the show with a powerful entrance. The Neo reliance on Neo Space made them almost unplayable, and even his ace monster's mountain of support didn't make it as good as Dark Magician, who at least had a game plan. I like Jaden, and I actually like GX, but he's just a bad duelist because a lot of things in GX were bad. At least the Zexal kid was bad on purpose, and he got better as the show went on. It’s not that great in real dueling, but the anime Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation was wayyyyy OP....she could still special summon, she didn’t have to have at least 3 harpies, and it took the total combined attack of all monsters destroyed from its effect out of the opponents life points. Dunames the Dark Witch is actually a different card than Dark Witch, and both were played by Mai :)
A Light Fairy-tyoe monster called dark witch?
I remember playing duel links..and when I saw mirror wall 50% of the time I lost without surrendering....30% I surrendered and the last 20% I managed to pull through
2:23 I don't know about it being definitely better than heavy storm, that's pretty debatable. they're both incredibly sacky unsearchable s/t removal options, but storm is extra degenerate by being able to wipe your own stuff and plus off it that way too. the OCG has kept that banned for a reason I think whereas duster is fine.
Jack YT >Feather Duster is searchable
@@mezasepkmn Well relying on your opponent destroying a set storm isn't really a proactive search unless they have another card I'm not aware of?
Mirror Wall is still a viable method in duel links to lost LP and trigger your skills.
I wouldn't mind if she uses me again.
Wrong Icon...
Graceful Charity SIMP
Same tbh
@@TheHolyDishwater I don't think you get my joke in regards to saryuja and charity being similar cards digging through your deck....
@@AxisChurchDevotee ;)
You mentioned Mirror Wall in the context of Duel Links, dzeeff. YES, it's still being played, and people are chain comboing it with Wall of Disruption, too. For someone trying to improve their skills and just have fun, being bodied by that combo is disheartening. I was TRYING to see how far I could get in the KC Cup this time, but after having that combo done to me, with 3 separate decks in a row, it put me off of it.
I know you didn't want to mention duel link but since was kind of scrap for monster amazon swords women?
bro i have to wait a whole week for my shaddoll structure decks to come!!!!!
What about the 2 spell card she used when she sort of joined Darts? Harpy´s sparrow and phoenix formation. The only experiance i have with yugioh is the anime so they maybe suck outside of the anime but there effects sounded powerful.
Sparrow is anime-only and Phoenix got a bunch of restrictions that make it really bad :(
Yugioh dm held the filmmakers rule book upside down and read “tell don’t show”. Except, plenty of characters have rolled into the show with a powerful entrance. You know what how about a gx character. Alexis, Zane, Axel (played volcanic) jaden could be interesting, I don’t know how many of his heroes were actually competitive.
Why exclude her amazons? That was her more competitive deck.
This is a video about which of her cards were good in the TCG. Amazons were not good in the TCG
@@Dzeeff agree with you
Next lets talk about Best Jaden card. A lot of people like to talk shit about Jaden deck because he play Neo Spacian. But in reality he play a lot of broken card as well.
Wasn't E-Hero Dark Gaia a good old school card because of the insane attack potential?
@@CarmsCelestia Yeah but maybe because of RATA people still think Jaden deck terrible.
It was horrible tho and he didn't even play the good heroes
@@coolkidsclub9943 E-Hero Bubbleman: Am i a joke to you?
Also GX came out in a format where fast paced gameplay and extra deck spamming wasnt a thing yet (not counting magical scientist FTK). So of course Omni Hero won't be on his deck. But then again most omni hero got buffed a lot in real life because the manga version is kinda meh.
@@riqua27 That first thing was just cringy. Don't use a bad Reddit meme please.
And there were better decks all over GX. GX did help define what makes an archetype, which was nice, but Jaden's strategy of "summon whatever weird flavor of fusion monster I'm feeling today because I drew three bricks and a polymerization" was just bad.
TLDR: Play Cyber Dragons, Ancient Gears, Destiny HEROs, or Volcanics (if you want to be a mega Chad) for good GX decks.
Or play Venoms if you want to never win a game
Everytime I got screwed over with that feather duster I Always thought I wanna slap MAI hand up her giant head for introducing this even tho she didn't in reality ugh that thing is just insanely powerful to use as a second term setup for a third turn finish
Ahhw, no Dunames Dark Witch?
Can u plz review Bakura??? He is my fav duelist
Can you go back and do videos for duel links since its an entirely different beast but its still yugioh
Now the trap cards in duel links are wall of disruption, drowning mirror force, and floodgate trap hole
Mirror Wall was on the limited list?
Swordswoman is really cool in weird formats like Duel Links
hey can you do a video like this on zane ?
❤😬 Happy Valentine's Day y'all
I noticed that you didn't talk about her equip cards. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't she use some type of Harpy armor and weapons?
She did, but they probably didn't see any competitive use compared. Most Equip spells used for Isolde or something would normally be useful within the deck, rather than the archetype specific Harpy ones
"Harpie's Feather Duster is a card that I don't think will be coming back to the TCG anytime soon..."
Boy, that comment aged well.
*"I thought disguising myself as a bee would help me to win!"*
Mai 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I like to put together her deck .
Love Mai Valentine (I think Amazoness Swords Women should have made the list)
It’s not that great in real dueling, but the anime Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation was wayyyyy OP....she could still special summon, she didn’t have to have at least 3 harpies, and it took the total combined attack of all monsters destroyed from its effect out of the opponents life points. Truly an OTK if played right
Well, Harpie's feather duster did come back, who would have thought
didnt harpies feather duster get limited to 1 in the TCG?
Hey Dzeff, PLZ do Aporia, Paradox, Zone, Nightshroud(GX Season 4), Fujiwara, and The Supreme King next!🙏
Woah, first time I'm ever a first time viewer, love your vids Doug, happy valentine's day!
No? Nice try.
I just love Mai and am in love playing Yugioh with my Harpie deck 💟 this video was gooood thank you 🍪💟
The character that always lost in the manga when we saw her and only won one duel on screen
To Dzeef, who in the Yugioh series would you say had the most competively viable deck, that is, in their OWN generation and figuring on all the same card effects? Note: I mean whole, complete deck. Not single cards.
The Pretzel2 Should be a character from VRAINS, there was a whole U Link in that series if I remember correctly
@@maxl5003 multiple. Revolver U-links Playmaker, who turns it into a 0 Link, Lightning U Links Spectre, who then works around it to U Link him back. May have been one or two more I can't remember, but I think that was it
Next you could do a villainous character like Pegasus, Marik, or Bakura
"a few months ago" was apperently 14 days before this video
Do "How Broken Were Bandit Keith's Yugioh Cards" on July 4th
Nah do it now.
July 4th...In America!
How broken are my cards in America
Aren’t Harpies A Play On Harp? As In Like Cupid, Love, Harps. Harps Are Associated With Angels Or Angelic Figures. They’re Wing-Beasts. That Kinda Counts.
... Uh, no? The harpy is a creature from Greek mythology.
I wonder if they will errata Feather Duster to make it require controlling a Harpie someday
She used Amazoness Spellcaster or Magician as a quick play...I hate her :P I think Mai kinda looks like Paladin
Paladin looks like Mai
did u ignor the waking the dragons filler when making this video
We deserve to have Harpies Feather Duster at 1 like the OCG. And Lithosagym to 3
Probably not the first to ask: What about sparrow and phoenix formation?
Sparrow isn't a TCG card, Phoenix isn't good with the physical effect
Didn’t Harpie’s Feather Duster become limited to one copy in the TCG?
After this video was made, yeah
@@Dzeeff I think they’re gonna update the ban list in the next couple weeks.
3:11 well that aged well
Obligatory posting of "Meh fancard, please love me":
*Harpie’s Psychic Perfume Armor* - Equip Spell
Artwork: A Harpie Lady but with clouds of thick colourful perfume instead of armour.
Can only be Equipped to a “Harpie Lady” or “Harpie Lady Sisters”.
The equipped monster gains ATK/DEF equal to the total level of all the “Harpie Lady” Monsters you control multiplied by 100.
The first time, each turn, it is destroyed (by battle or by card effect) it is not.
The equipped monster can make a second attack, during each battlephase.
If a monster battles the equipped monster, negate that monster’s effects and said monster can no longer declare an attack. These effects remain, even if this card leaves the field.
If this card, in the owner’s possession, leaves the field because of a card effect. You can take one “Harpie” card (or one card which lists “Harpie Lady” in it’s text) from your deck or GY and place it on top of your deck, except “Harpie’s Psychic Perfume Armor”.
Empathises on "Pretty"
Can you do video on Jayden please.
Sincerely,
Hero player.
