I play Squash as opposed to Pickleball but I know Loyd’s parents thus I’ve been tuning in. Seems like Pickleball would be 3 out of 5 due to the length of games. Tennis is 3/5 and Squash (which is also played to 11 but with PAR scoring) is 3/5. Badminton is 2/3 but the games are to 21 thus longer. Squash use to be played to 9 when only the Server could score but was eventually changed to 11 PAR.
I can tell Federico has that calm killer instinct, not being too high or low. Really just focused on his game. (Like Kobe, Curry) That to me was the big difference in this game.
Loyd didn’t play nearly as well and still got 7 points in game 2. Remember 1 month ago Loyd got crushed by Duong in the semis and beat Duong this tournament. My opinion is he’s an excellent singles player still on the rise.
Why people keep charging the next when ur getting smoked is unreal. Hit so,e ground strokes and set your self up to only go to the net when it’s to your advantage. How many shots have to get got passed you at the net before you stop coming in every time
You have to charge the net, I'm a pro pickleball player in Australia- there's a reason why everyone does it. Controlling the kitchen is the way to win singles and Doubles- if they hit it past you they hit it past but if your return is good enough it will be hard for them to do so and having that control of the net means you can put the point away quickly. If you just played consistent ground strokes to someone at the kitchen they will absolutely destroy you 11-0. You need to go for the passes or the soft balls so that you can come in also. Watch any pro player and that's what we all do

It seems Staksrud has tennis big banging type of players' number. Sock, Duong, Loyd, ... have all lost to him usually at under 5 points.

The only player fed can’t beat is Ben. Fed is an offensive machine with the best return game in the world.

Why does loyd keep going back to touch the towel between every turn? Ritual?
For sweat, and also for mental reset purposes, I would imagine
Physical reset as well, singles is exhausting and any extra second you can have to catch your breath helps.
