Great video and yes you can fight fire with fire. It is used to fight bush fires. You would call them wild fires. The technique is called a back burn. The idea is to burn all the fuel in front of the of the advancing bush or wild fire and hence starve it out. This technique obviously would never be used in a house fire.
The idea of literally fighting fire with fire is that you set a fire to burn down _all_ the fuel for the other fire at a particular point, to create a barrier the other fire cannot cross. If you control the fire you set properly, you can extinguish it once it finishes burning what you want it to, and everything on the other side of the burn line / perimiter / etc. from the main fire will be protected.
I never knew you could salvage a game after your opponent queens. Most folks I’ve outplayed would just resign as soon as I pushed a pawn to the seventh rank with no hope of stopping it (since it’s usually a forced mate after promotion)
In terms of fighting fire with fire, controlled burns can be used as a way of making sure wildfires don't start. You can also burn out a big line to stop a fire from spreading further. So I guess you *can* fight fire with fire but it's less about putting the fire out and more stopping it starting / spreading
I am a firefighter and they use sometimes fire to attack fire, when there is a bushfire they do a controlled fire on the edge of the fire so when the real fire comes there is nothing left to be burned and that helps a lot.
I like how the video is called "Magnus Carlsen's Greatest Endgame" and it is undeniably a spectacular performance, but if you check the engine lines around 15:38 after Kc1 you'll realize that the engine gives like -5 in black's favor and that Magnus actually BLUNDERED a draw in the next few moves (specifically after playing Kd4 instead of Kxb4). Engines are absolutely crazy man
I am Australian and this country is literally supposed to be on fire on a regular basis, in fact there are seed pods that only open after a fire. Also my mother used to work for the national parks so I can offer the following information about fighting fire with fire: you can pre-burn all the flammable materials like dry leaves and sticks in a controlled way so that they cannot fuel a fire later on. This is called back-burning.
The jokes today were very funny. The Norwegian horse dance bit was hilarious. But it wasn’t the Norwegian man who got kicked in the head by the horse. It was the Norwegian Wood-pusher whose pawn spawned (the “S” pawn) and Vishy couldn’t wake up from his knightmare.

"Fighting fire with fire" comes from a technique for containing forest fires, where you move a certain distance ahead of the fire and do a controlled burn of a specific distance, so when the big fire gets there, it has nothing left to burn. Or maybe it doesnt, maybe i made that up. Who knows?
Not a firefighter by any means, but I think you actually can fight fire with fire (in a way.) Essentially, you can stop the spread of a fire by burning whatever's in its path through the means of a smaller, more controlled fire, so that anything which the bigger, more problematic fire can burn (and thus spread through) is already consumed by the time the big fire arrives, essentially smothering it. Generally I think this strategy is only used in emergencies, and mostly in wildfire as opposed to urban fire situations.
