    Great video and yes you can fight fire with fire. It is used to fight bush fires. You would call them wild fires. The technique is called a back burn. The idea is to burn all the fuel in front of the of the advancing bush or wild fire and hence starve it out. This technique obviously would never be used in a house fire.

  • @delta3244
    @delta3244 Рік тому +16

    The idea of literally fighting fire with fire is that you set a fire to burn down _all_ the fuel for the other fire at a particular point, to create a barrier the other fire cannot cross. If you control the fire you set properly, you can extinguish it once it finishes burning what you want it to, and everything on the other side of the burn line / perimiter / etc. from the main fire will be protected.

    In terms of fighting fire with fire, controlled burns can be used as a way of making sure wildfires don't start. You can also burn out a big line to stop a fire from spreading further. So I guess you *can* fight fire with fire but it's less about putting the fire out and more stopping it starting / spreading

Also my mother used to work for the national parks so I can offer the following information about fighting fire with fire: you can pre-burn all the flammable materials like dry leaves and sticks in a controlled way so that they cannot fuel a fire later on. This is called back-burning.

    Not a firefighter by any means, but I think you actually can fight fire with fire (in a way.) Essentially, you can stop the spread of a fire by burning whatever's in its path through the means of a smaller, more controlled fire, so that anything which the bigger, more problematic fire can burn (and thus spread through) is already consumed by the time the big fire arrives, essentially smothering it. Generally I think this strategy is only used in emergencies, and mostly in wildfire as opposed to urban fire situations.

    I'm a volunteer firefighter in Australia, and you can actually fight fire with fire, so to speak, in a process called back-burning. Basically, you pre-burn an area ahead of the fire that you keep under control, so there is no fuel to keep the main fire going. It does depend a lot on the circumstances, though (weather conditions, size of the main fire, landscape, etc).

    Wildland FF here. We utilize drip torches and other various burning equipment to create what we call back burns. Essentially removing unburned fuel between the main body of fire and the homes we're trying to protect. Your videos gave me many hours of entertainment while camping out in the woods. Cheers

    Fire can be fought with fire. The two co texts are in forest fire fighting where you burn the underbrush to make fire lines (reigns without fuel that the fire can burn) to contain fires. The second is in the case of a oil spill/well fire, you can use an explosive to push the burning gasses and air away, momentarily smothering the flames and stopping the fire so that repairs and cleanup can occur.

    you fight wild fires, with fire, by burning the "fuel" ahead of the fire, it's easy to control the small fire.... and the large fire burns itself out faster.

    You can fight fire with fire buy doing a controlled burn to create a sizeable gap between where a fire is and where it's spreading. Basically you burn a section of forest down wind of a fire and take away that fuel in a controlled way so it can't spread anywhere passed your burn line.

    In wildland fire fighting there is a process called back fire or controlled burning in which you can help prevent forest fires by buring away thick under dry under growth that would allow fire to quickly spread from tree to tree in an uncontrolled fire.

    my dad is a firefighter, and you can fight fire with fire, you burn a line before the fire gets to a certain point so by the time the fire gets there it cant keep going because there isnt anything else left to burn

    Forest fires are sometimes fought by starting back burns in front of the fire. So when the larger fire reaches that burned area it has no fuel.

    5:45 yes this is a thing. You would use an explosion to burn up all the oxygen around the fire to choke it out

    An example of fighting fire with fire is when a oilline is on fire. The best way to stop the burst is by creating an explosion right on top of it.
