First ever Customer of the Gibson Garage London here. From Germany ;-) Got myself one of the 20 NGs
Very cool! Enjoy!!!
Congratulations!
Wie Viel?
Good luck to you nice guitar bit overpriced not that Noel Gallagher’s music is any good
Glückwunsch. :)
Cool seeing Justin Hawkins and his brother touring through and apparently having a beer.
Was wondering if anyone else even knew who that was 😂
I thought it was funny he didn’t know what ES stood for…..
@@boycehundley2618 Pretty weak for a supposed Gibson fan. They had two types in the early days of electric guitars: EH stood for Electric Hawaiian (lap steel guitars, extremely popular at the time), ES stood for Electric Spanish (regular guitar playing was called Spanish playing). The numbers after that designation stood for the price in dollars (until they didn't anymore because of inflation-yadda-yadda).
Brian May and Tony Iommi have been friends for about a million years. Brian has his own guitar company and the "Red Special" has no historical connection with Gibson whatsoever. A Gibson-made Red Special replica would be about as legit as their attempt to rip off Fender with their laughably butt-ugly "Jimi Hendrix model" years ago. Hendrix had a stronger connection/association to Gibson than Dr. Brian has ever had, because he played Flying Vs, SGs, and even an early Les Paul Custom with single coils, when he felt like it.
Do I get to try it out on Douchepotatoe Agnesi's head if I buy an extra-heavy Les Paul Custom as a melee weapon? For "authenticity" and all that...
I can't believe Justin was even there trying to keep his career alive pretending he was ever a beloved UK "rock star". Obviously, I use that term as loosely as possible with him! I stopped listening to his rambles when he slated Noel Gallagher, John Mayer and John Frusciante as players and song writers.
I’m not a huge Gibson guy but I’d definitely check it out if I was in the area. I just like guitars, man.
Gibson is great but there are far more dead ones than good. Out of 5 custom shop models i tried one sounded amazing. I suppose it is hard to queen QC consistent at that size but many other brands such as collings have perhaps the best QC ive ever seen, each one i pick up feels and sounds amazing.
Brian May and Tony Iommi are very good friends. I'm going to assume Brian was there with him. I can't imagine Brian working with Gibson to make a Red Special as Brian already has his own company to produce them. Can't see why he'd suddenly go to Gibson and probably make less money on the deal. Not to mention Brian is VERY particular about how his guitars are made.
Who's going to tell Brian May that he can't come? 😂
How sick would a red SG with Burns Tri-Sonic pickups be!?..and a whammy.
especially not when they're giving him money and free stuff to show up.
When did you last sleep with him?
@@vitasprout That would be pretty cool. It would probably need a Kahler to be stable. Or a modified Brian May trem. That would be pretty amazing.
Although Brian May plays the Red Special 99% of the time, he has played various Gibsons over the years, albeit fleetingly. Most notably, he used a flying V in the video for Princes of the Universe and a Gibson Chet Atkins CE for the acoustic section of the Magic Tour in '86 (the final proper Queen tour).
Hello. That Flying V in Princes is actually a Washburn. He had a LP Deluxe as a backup in the 70’s, and there are photos of him playing a Black Beauty 74-ish.
Yes, sorry, went off piste with that. The Flying V was on the Hot Space tour and it was a Washburn RR-V in the Princes vid, you are absolutely correct.
Brian has got a whole company that reissues the red special (and tbe Arielle which is a red special on a Firebird-esque body). As a owner of an Arielle the workmanship is fantastic on the guitar. I'd say he was just there as a famous guitarist.
You should check out a Johnny Marr Jaguar, he made a bunch of mods to one he got from Issac Brock of Modest Mouse (Issac didn’t really like it), and Fender actually asked to see what he did and then offered to make it a signature model!
Justin Hawkins of the Darkness wandering around the GG
Notice the Gibson branded guitar stands that those new guitars are using. Gibson, the notoriously litigious corporate giant, seems to have infringed on Zither? Gibson used to have Zither make their stands, now Gibson is making those stands in house.
i was in the nashville shop a few months ago. got to meet Mark, had a great convo with a cool dude in the acoustic section. I hear Carter Vintage is in a new location, i need to hit it up
That NG LP is a sweet looking reissue!
Brian and Tony are close friends , so it makes sense that Tony may have asked him to tag along
Great recap of Agnesi’s private tour for The Darkness. Get your hands off of my Les Paul …………
Can’t wait to see the review of NG Les Paul (great teaser)
Really surprised there’s no videos documenting them yet but we shall wait patiently for yours!
I can't wait to go visit! Me and the boys are going to take a trip to London in the summer (we're a couple of hours drive away).
That’s a lot of guitars.
Brian May recently has been playing a 12 string SJ-200 live in performances, so perhaps that’s why he was at the garage in London.
Not knowing anything about Brian May's Red Special, I found some videos on its story ........ and Wow! .... What an Amazing Guitar Story.
It really is! I love how he and his father worked on it for like literally a couple of years or more just so everything could be just right! There's even a book out about it too
Yeah, crazy he made it with his dad. Out of crap they had laying around. Even made the pickups. That’s determination.
@@Wargasm54 exactly 👍
At 9:09 the pink 58 style Flying V! Yes please!!
Cezar and spinal tap took a extensive tour of the London garage, plenty of nooks and crannies, secret rooms and a celebrity bar, check it out trogly, surprised you haven't seen it yet.
it is funny
Brian May and Tony iommi are very good friends, according to what they both said in a video.
Ten years ago today Gibson posted Tommy Shaw in Nashville with the 2014 Les Paul Melody Maker
Will visit when I'm over there later in the year.
Yo
I'm here (or anywhere) for ANYTHING Brian May does 🤘
The bar was really cool. And that green wraptail lp with p90s was great
Went yesterday , really cool !
Looking forward to visiting the Nashville location over the summer. A T shirt is probably all I will buy 😂
Tony Iommi and Brian May are fast friends and even did some guitar vids/interviews together fairly recently, not sure if a Gibson Red Special is coming, but this isn't too special
I saw Brian playing a customized J-200. It had stars and planets on the pick guard. Not sure if a release is happening, or maybe it was a gift? I couldn’t find much info other than a few photos floating around the net.
Hey Trogly Thank You for what you Do!!!!!! Great education!!!!! Keep up the great work!!!!!
I played a great R9 Lemonburst at the London Garage.
We need a Gibson Garage here in Germany! 😇🙋♂
Cool place. I would like to goo there from Spain
The Koa LP is not the one from the Mod Collection. The wood grain is completely different.
I spotted quite a few lefties! Nice
Buying a guitar in support of charity just to resell and make a profit should be fuckin' illegal.
Beautiful store, beautiful guitars ;-)
man that sucks that someone went in there to turn a profit on reverb :/
Gibson/Epiphone Red Special would be lovely.
Looking at the current exchange rate it would be about 12,678USD before tax. This is probably one of the few place where you would see someone say Gibson should have charged more than the already outrageous asking price. It's nice that it's going to charity and it's a beautiful guitar but the price is crazy.
The £10k price would include 20% tax, so for USA, I would say it would be $10,500 plus sales tax if they release any in the States.
Should’ve been 20k to deter flippers and raise more for the charity!
@@martin-1965Thanks for the clarification. I didn't consider that the sales tax was already built into the price. It's still very expensive but that is a notable difference
@Trog It's great that the proceeds are for charity but I have a hard time wrapping my head around the craziness of the collector/flipper market. Real 78 LP customs are available for notably less but I guess people interested in this one highly value the signature on the back and not having to swap anything out to make it look like this one.
Hi T love the chanel. Was in the Gibson Garage London today and can tell you it’s awesome. They’ve revamped their old artist/special events space. The NG’s were just under £10k and sold out in minutes. First in line was queuing from 4pm the day before opening. There are 2 conveyer belts with about 75 guitars on each and you’re right the belt in Nashville carries around 200!
Man I really wish Gibson would reissue the SG body Melody Maker. It’d need to come in under a $1k with a case though. Give it different pickup configurations - instead of the original crappy single coils. They could use the new Les Paul custom colors on the bodies but still leave the necks natural. A neck P-90 with a bridge humbucker would be the coolest imo. Do it Gibson!
Very cool!
Brian May sells his own guitars… more likely Gibson buys Brian May Guitars
I would have preferred a Noel Gallagher Union Jack ES, like the old Epiphone but full on Gibson. That guitar would... well oops, even though they don't make them they're already sold out! That's how popular they would be! 😂
brian may would never quit using his red special. he was at the fender aniversary show playing the red special the brands just reconize he is awesome
4:27 Gibson is suing Brian May for the exact copyright violations you've laid out here on his home built Red Special.
Brian and Tony are best friends.
Why is that dog yelling in your pfp?
Brian May and Tony are really good friends. Have been for a long time
Ah man, its 45 mins from me and I'm going to go there and order me an Explorer Custom with the thinnest neck possible, a Floyd Rose, with a P90 in the neck and a 498T in the bridge... I want a mahogany body with a quilt maple cap painted like a translucent cherry burst. Gold hardware too. I love it when people say No!
sounds like fun to me!
Hey trogly that's my Charlie Parra Kramer I saw there. Still have it.
Hanging with Page would be unreal. No offense to Kirk. An interesting side note to those two. When he was looking to buy Greenie and wasn't sure what to do He said Page said he should buy it. To quote Kirk, "When Jimmy F'n Page tells you to buy it you do."
Yeah they pick nail varnish together as well. Hammet hates pages choices.
I don’t think they have an elevator to get downstairs to the Epiphone part of the store, but I heard they have a really big ladder
I think the other guy was James Bay, he's an Epiphone user, nice to see s few lefties on the wall
Did anyone else notice the crooked tuner at 2:33? Is it supposed to be that way? Did his guitar have a crooked tuner? I wouldn't want my $12500 dollar guitar to have something like that wrong with it.
You see crooked tuners on expensive Gibsons all the time, seems to be a special feature....🙄
Been knocked. Happens
So Trogly, do you have another connection? I’m sure you’ll surprise us with the NG LP..
When are you going to visit ?
Brian and Tony are buddies. They have a bunch of videos of them jamming.
Brian May plays a 12 string Gibson acoustic when they perform Love of My Life
That price is ridiculous. It is for rich people that have more money than sense. 🤣
Maybe one day you’ll have more money than sense.
@@Wargasm54you make that sound like a good thing?
@@brianhansen-hj3mlit is, if you like having the money to buy whatever you want.
But Noel played it in the Whatever video, not in HC, no?
He might have recorded Heathen Chemistry with it...I think he used it on Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, there's a picture of it in the booklet with the CD, but there's no stickers on it but the P90s are there.
@@polycube868 ah, cool to know, thanks!
@therealnekser6466 you're welcome, it might vary depending upon which CD release you have, mine is a 2 disc version with Let's All Make Believe on a b side CD single to Go Let It Out
✌️
Looks like Troglys missed Lee Andertons Gibson London Garage Special videos from last year, it's all there! LOL!!
Brian May has his own guitar company, but it'd be interesting to see a collaboration between May and Gibson.
A lot of people pointing out that Brian May and Tony Iommi are the best of friends and maybe that is why he is present. Maybe it's just that but Brian is a Gibson player as well. His Red Special is not the only guitar he plays. He has used Gibson LP, V and SGs.
Brian uses a 12 string gibson acoustic live on tour.
What size frets are those?
8 1/2
I just realized I‘m actually in this Video, LOL🙈 at 3:57 you can see me picking up one of the NGs. Not mine as I took the one on the right of the three…
How cool is this? Fender should have some stores like this if they don't already.
As far as I can tell, Noel Gallagher (and Oasis) are kind of a "European" phenomenon. They never got it going here in the US.
Sadly that's true...here in the states they're basically the "Wonderwall guys" and maybe Don't Look Back in Anger and that's about it...which is a shame as Oasis was so much better than the garbage American bands of the day, but between Liam not taking the band making it big in America seriously, and American album buyers being pissed they didn't crank out an entire album of Wonderwalls and Don't Look back in Angers the American general public threw them in the trash and moved on from garbage post grunge to boy band crap and Limp Bizkit 🤢🤮
I had an original 1978 LP Custom... it was one of the worst Gibsons I ever owned. The neck was too thin, the frets were low and wide and the inlays always felt almost "squeaky". I was always fighting with it when it came to bends and it sounded kind of meh. I eventually put DiMarzios in it but it was still uninspiring. When I bought it (back in the 80's) you were limited to buying at local shops, so you often held into things longer than you wanted and tried to make things work. It also wasn't easy to sell them back then. Nobody wanted them. It wasn't like today where you had access to everything and can buy/sell online easily. That being said, I went through a half dozen 70's Les Pauls back then and none of them played as well as what came later. I did have a '79 clownburst Standard that sounded great but again, low wide frets. I personally get more excited over the recent stuff than I do those Norlin ones. If they do reissue them I hope for once, they aren't authentic. lol
I like the idea for a Brian May DC Les Paul Jr with a Flying V headstock!
Personally, I think the SG platform is underrated and pigeonholed. A single cut SG with a Flying V / trapezoidal or maybe inline headstock would be killer!
The traditional 3 + 3 Gibson headstock is really starting to look like a weird anachronistic design. It used to look like the normal headstock, I'm not so sure anymore.
A staggered trapezoidal 3 + 3 headstock with a traditional look on the Les Paul would be a welcome tweak, imo.
That dream is hilarious on so many levels! Ha love the show!
Looks like a LP classic
I saw Liam get hit with a shoe at the Orbit Room in Grand Rapids Michigan! He walked off stage and his brother finished singing the set . It was a good show except for the shoe ! It was very early in their career a ticket was $7 !
Page has a double Neck coming out and I WANT IT!
20k for a brand new guitar is just crazy
The "middle man" has been slowly removed from the sales chain for years now. Its sad to say but I think most music stores will fade into time due to the internet.
Maybe “new” for the big names but there is always used!
Great
hopefully they will open a NYC or Philly location for us east coasters
I think we’d see an LA showcase revamping before that
12:36 "Actually they had an extra one... LOL! Sending now"
Here we go!
Nice catch! Is that the one featured in the walk around? Maybe! Lucked out Trogly!
Didnt Joe Walsh give Jimmy his LP #1?
Cream City Music put out a video on the Jimmy Page doubleneck EDS-1275, saying he thinks the Gibson Garage in the UK will be doing the same with Jimmy and his double neck as they did with the Greenie. Doing a fly there , stay, meet and greet with Page with a possible approx price of 100K!!! WOW!! That would be an insane price , although meeting JP would be freaking AMAZING!!!
For page… anything is possible. My 20k guess was for an “unlimited” custom shop run
Troglyman , You didn't go across the pond??!?? Oh well. That would have been a cool event to attend.... Just curious , Why wouldn't , if you were Gibson these days in the U.K. , want a guitar player like Brian May hanging out?!? Like You said , what if they made a Brian May Double Cut (Melody Maker like combination)..... It would totally sell !! And, as always , I am here to help.... Tonni Iommi & Brian May are old friends..... Cool video ✌️
Is that Justin and Dan Hawkins walking around in the Vid.
Yes - video on gibsons UA-cam channel
Yahoo
At one point Brian had a back up Les Paul Deluxe?
Brian May and Tony Iommi are besties, so maybe he was Tony's +1 😁
I fixed Robert Plants toilet for him back in 2016… true story.
Not what he says
@@ChrisShortyAllen correct. He said “thank you mate”
Going to London later this year - going to make a visit. Probably won't buy a guitar but maybe an overpriced shirt!
Tommy & Brian are close friends
I note the Adam Jones V there. Gibson UK seem to have one back in stock at the same time the one at Peach Guitars has gone out of stock - I wonder if that's just coincidence, or whether PG gave it back (like the hot 20k turd it is!).
There's absolutely not a chance in hell that an American company will be reissuing the red special, no way.
Brain May is best friend of Tony
Oh.... British custom shop?
Cool.
Does it have a super cool Union Jack painted on it? ..
oh...
Not really interested. Sorry.
The guys from the Darkness that went on the tour acted like they knew nothing about guitars! It’s that English dry humor!
In the video with Jimmy Page and the double neck, he played and signed 50 of them. I’m thinking a lot more than $20,000. But, who knows.
Brian has been using a custom Gibson Acoustic for years thats probably what theyre going to be doing
Justin Hawkins no love?
he's not that famous.
@@sixslinger9951 Famous enough that Gibson invited him over with a select few others.
Oasis? 78 ? Maybe 2 grand. Nothing super special about a 78 les paul. Ive owned several 70s pauls
Brian and Tony are best friends and hang out all the time. So he's probably there because why not?
yep...very cooltrogly...big fancy store in London.....for the big spenders...hhmmmm......as it is the current Merceds Boss wants to sell off all their own merc sales outletsto some investor(s).....maybe good to have control of "your" sales outlets...but with it comes extra costs....and in London (and other european metropolis) you're talking big money......lets see where "shopping" goes next....
