You are absolutely correct when you said that water weighs around 8.34 pounds per gallon, But water could also weigh around 8.6 pounds per gallon if the sample was taken from the Atlantic Ocean! Answering a question like this is pretty difficult because saltwater is heavier than freshwater! Also the weight of saltwater can vary depending on which one of this worlds oceans the sample was taken from, Also the weight of both fresh and saltwater is going to vary depending on the samples actual temperature! After reading my comment I started thinking about the time I waited until mid November to haul my boat out for the winter! The distance from my Marina to the boat ramp was about 4 1/2 miles, While driving from the marina to the boat ramp my boat felt different, The engine was running perfectly and all of my gauges we’re exactly where they were all summer! The boat felt like it was dragging a bit, Almost like my bilge had a few hundred pounds of water in it! My bilge was bone dry as usual! That was the first time operating my boat in temperatures under 70°F, I thought it was just in my head because I was freezing my ass off with the temperature being around 48°F! Here it is about 12 years later and after researching the difference between fresh and saltwater I found my answer, The decreased performance in my boat was not in my head but rather it was real due to the fact that the water was so cold! The density of water increases the colder it is which is why my boat felt different!
