Stockholm never ceases to amaze me. A relative of mine, who has been living there for decades, told me he feels the same way; "Although I'm a resident I often go into the city centre, stroll around and simply inhale the atmosphere and the beauty of this magnificent city, just like a tourist would". Says it all.

bztravel@@bztravelOut of curiosity: Do cruises like this advise passengers when they're about to sail in through such scenery like Stockholm or Rio de Janeiro?
I've often seen cruise ships arriving at the crack of dawn and felt sorry for anyone missing the scenery.

@@bztravel yes it was. but it was not always easy. I remember it could be tricky to get to school sometimes. I had to travel to another larger island. during bad weather we could get stranded.

You hit all the sweet sports in 2 days. If you come back there is plenty more to experience. Try the residential palace of Drottningholm with the magnificent gardens, and maybe Birka/Björkö both of which you can reach by very scenic boat rides. Or the subway stations which are the longest art gallery in the world (most are on the blue line). Just a few tips, there are tons more to explore.
Side note: I remember the Vasa in its wet dock and going to see it there and later in its first museum being constantly showered in water to keep it from deteriorating, yet I have still to see it in its final place. It is gorgeous and a national treasure despite the embarrassment it was originally...

@@bztravel if you like art, history and music you should definitely try and catch a play at the Drottningholm royal theater. It is the oldest still functioning theater in the world with many original sets. The ingenuity of the scenemakers and special effects of the times is just great. Look it up to learn more.

    Beautiful video! Thanks!
But one correction. The King and Queen does not live in Stockholm Palace. It is their working place.
They live in Drottningholm Palace just north west outside Stockholm. You can visit that palace too. Go from the city by boat or tunnelbana/bus. The castle is gorgeous and have lovely surroundings. Welcome back! 😊

how nice that you were here and also liked it, welcome back :) You did really good activities, boating is the best, there is even more to see if you enter the lakes and boat inland. Can recommend a visit in December as well, magical to go by boat when the city lights up.

@@bztravelAnother tip is to stay at the Elite Marina Hotel, it's the hotel next to where your boat ported, so you get the same view from the hotel, and you can also walk along the water where you first local boattransfer went with many awsome restaurant. A local boattransfer takes you from the hotel to the city or the old town or the island where the Viking museum is for only ~4USD each one way.

As a swede here, and Stockholm resident, I can tell you guys that you unfortunately missed the most cool museum in stockholm and one of the most famous ones,if not the most famous one, Skansen museum..the oldest outside museums in the world. That is a must when visiting Stockholm to go in there.. In a top 3 list I would put Skansen,Wasa museum and the Nordic Museum...Stockholm is PACKED with great museums..but these ones are the top ones..

Tip from a local Stockholmer, book a 24 hour local Swedish or Finnish cruise between Finland and Sweden, costs only 50-100 USD, get the whole round trip with food and accommodation plus the view through the archipelago :)

FAT 21 means "Cask no 21".
S:t Erik is the patron saint of Stockholm. He was a king of pre-Sweden that is buried in Uppsala Cathedral, the main church of the Swedish lutheran church.

Owning an island definitely sounds grand! As we sailed by, we couldn’t help but admire them and wonder what daily life is like-commuting, getting groceries, and just the logistics of living on your own little slice of paradise. It’s fascinating to think about!

@@bztravel Most of them are summer houses and there are small food shops in the archipelago or they buy on the way out to the house .
Plus some big freezers and refrigerators .
Buying an island with a privet house on it that's on thing , but buying an island without a privet house on it (the state owns it) requires a lot of different permits from the municipality .

    stockholm was founded in 1252

    • @danvernier198
      @danvernier198 2 дні тому +1

Not exactly, the oldest preserved letter mentioning Stockholm is from 1252. Stockholm has however obviously still existed for quite some time at that point since the same letter effectively demoted Sigtuna from capital status by giving it city rights.
You wouldn't just write to the capital that "Hey you guys have city rights now." and give that command from a place that just popped into existence. Stockholm was established somewhere between 1190 and 1240. By 1252 it officially replaced Sigtuna as the economic and political centre, which means it must have de facto achieved that status earlier.

It is actually not fjords but fjards. Fjard and fjord were originally the same word, and they generally meant sailable waterway. In Scandinavia, fjords dominate along the North Sea coast while fjards dominate the Baltic Sea coast.
