'They don't like my rhymes say my style is like a lecture
But I'd rather die than smile with my oppressor' - Lowkey
Real words spoken
For context: Lowkey was gaining buzz in the UK around 2009 and he released his debut album in 2011 called Soundtrack To The Struggle. It was branded an instant cassic for his social commentary. It almost charted independently and he was even getting some radio play (which is unheard of for a socially conscious UK rapper). He was a big social activist and public speaker which also helped him gain quite a dedicated following.
During and after that time however he had his house raided by police, was banned from certain parts of London and also became a father. In 2012 he shocked everyone by deleting all his social media accounts, saying he would be taking a hiatus to "study" and has just returned this year.
Thanks for sharing!
Zain he was out way before then with his key to the game mixtapes in 05/06
actually he went to study and still is doing great as a scholar...and I think you can understand this from his new lyrics! And still is an activist!
Took time out to get his PHD in history
I heard they even banned him from making music. Not just releasing but *Making* music!!! If so that's absolutely asinine.
lowkey fire in the booth is disgustingly good
yeah have they reacted to that? i feel like they would enjoy
I'm glad you did Lowkey but you picked the wrong track to analyze his rapping ability. Lowkey has been away from the game for awhile, George noted that it sounded like a lecture. That's because in essence it was. Lowkey didn't comeback to prove he can rap, everyone in the UK knows that he can. He came back to let his voice heard on the various issues the world is facing today ie A Trump-led America, Grenfell Towers, the refugee crisis etc. You couldn't have picked a worse track to analyze his flow, delivery etc. With that said I love you guys, you're by far the best reaction channel out there. If it wasn't for this channel I wouldn't have heard the Three Wise Men Cypher,(a masterpiece )and lots more excellent music. I understand that you're unbiased, honest and objective. It's why I'm subscribed to this channel. But it would it would be awful if this track was the reason you thought Lowkey can' t rap. You guys should DEFINITELY listen to his Fire in the booth. P.S the language he is speaking at the end is Arabic. Lowkey was born in England but his mother was from Iraq.
I also like that you guys are some of the only people to agree with me that Avelino was better than Wretch in their Fire in the booth, feel like Ryan might want to know that did a track with his boy Immortal Technique, it' called Voices of the Voiceless and it's pretty good. Keep the real reactions coming.
I completely agree
Thanks for sharing the backstory on this! We'll try to get back to Lowkey at some point. The requests for this particular freestyle were through the roof so we pretty much HAD to do it. Salute!
Patricio Sharry . Damn right ! Wrong pick
Patricio Sharry literally couldn't of said it better
React to Lowkey- Terrorist. It'll open up alot of peoples eyes. Its a deep song. Even Lowkey- Obama Nation is a really good song too
You should react to lowkeys fire in the booth it's one of the best
niallp229 mad
Yes!!! And it is less poetry and more rap
it won't dissapoint, that masterpiece is fire!!
Yeah and now there is part 2 aswell!
All due respect boys, but Lowkeys flow is unbelievable, he's a UK legend and you should check out some of his other shit before making the judgement on his flow of of just this track, try his fire in the booth, or any of his other tracks tbh. Big ups though enjoyng your videos.
please because i dont think you understand try alphabet assassin, fire in the booth, or any of his album soundtrack to the struggle he IS a great rapper i promise you
or try his track with immortal technique voices of the voiceless
His flow on this video is off though
flux
its a lowkey thing
His flow has always been his weakest part.
As an advocate of the UK scene i appreciate you varying to the UK artists more, if you want an example of lowkeys potential flow watch Alphabet Assassin.
Alphabet Assasssin is a crazy song for them to review, that and Obamanation.
Yes but these cretins would still pause it every 10 seconds to critique it,then complain about ' the flow' despite chopping it up so much they can't hear it...
Steven Farrington As much as i like lowkey there is no denying that his flow in this isnt great and cutting up the video is purely for copyright purposes, it doesnt chop when they listen to it.
Phi life cypher - ABC is much better
what he said. alphabet assassin is the one.
React to Lowkey - Obama Nation
Fuck yes!
Obama Nation Pt 2 also
Yes fam! I've been suggesting this video a while back, they will have their heads blown if they listen to that.
We must let them hear this, make it happen...
if you guys think lowkey doesn't have good flow then I please recommend y'all to check his history, and his other track please... please do react to lowkey more then y'all would know who Lowkey is he is rapping like this for long after 7 years.. anyways would appreciate if y'all try o know who lowkey is for real... cheers!!!,
Funny thing is Akala and Lowkey and a couple others have famous lectures at university and are both active political activists/freedom fighters
Makes sense!
You guys have been putting me on UK rap. US is really falling off.
On a mainstream level, absolutely.
troy lightfoot you og as fuk
OOOG :)
troy lightfoot
Not really, you just don't know where to look
troy lightfoot Word.
I think you guys need to attune your ears to his flow, his not offbeat but just may come across like that especially that's it's introduction to his style. The same happened when you reacted to Akala! Give yourself time to adjust and listen to their other songs so you have a real objective unbiased reaction
Twain Nell just because their opinion isn’t the same as yours doesn’t mean it’s biased
EnemyNoOne UK Rappers just don’t have the flow American rappers do, it’s a different style and takes different ears to listen to. I myself have taken time to look at different videos and I still have to agree with them. so it isn’t ignorance my dude, it has to do with different preferences
Apemanwithcalculator like I said, different preferences
fucking thank you! literally my exact thoughts
so true
Now to complete the UK introduction you have to listen to Santan Dave - JKYL + HYD or Question Time
Ollie11 question time definitely
Ollie11 agreed Dave Question time or JKYL + HYD or why not both lol
Thiago Silva with ajt
Dave's La Leakers freestyle is also sick. Really displays his range of skills.
Has anyone even heard Callahan warm sessions, he is one of the best artists iv ever heard and he only has 100k views. What the actual fuck.
16:00 you mention how it’s like a lecture, and one of Lowkey’s lyrics elsewhere is, “they don’t like my rhymes, say my style is like a lecture, but I’d rather die than smile with my oppressor” 😅😅
react to Lowkey Fire in the booth Part 1 , one of the best booth ever
Miss Khan his part 2 is even better in my opinion
@@eastsideresident5814 respectfully disagree but they’re both fire.
Lowkey the return of lowkey 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Krept last night in Lagos
Konan last night in LA
U WILL LOVE ITTTT
im so sad for them for real they talk about LOWKEY as if he's an Amateur ,
guys lowkey is the voice of the truth and he can rap he is in the game for so long and
he got ban on tv because he drops a lot of bars with strong rap songs and now he is back
and the funny dude when he takes his pen and says " ohh i feel am in class "
yeah thats lowkey he always speak about the important things not like the cheap rappers they only talk about sex ,money and fame
@@feras3794 100% agree lowkey is a legend not a rookie
They are idiots
Lowkey - Fire in the booth 🔥
Lowkey - Obamanation 🔥 1, 2, 3
Lowkey - Alphabet Assassin 🔥
Lowkey - Ahmed 🔥
Lowkey - Ghosts of Grenfell
Lowkey - The death of neoliberalism 🔥
&
The list goes on & on & on.......
"His bars might sound good
when he spits 'em out,
But would it mean something
if you were lookin' at it, written down?
Lowkey - I'm Back
Lowkey is an activist first and a rapper second. Rap is just a tool he uses to distribute his messages. Thats why his music seems like a lecture.
Fuck yeah. Lowkey is probably my favorite rapper from the UK. He's so talented and i think there's something about his accent that just makes his bars seem so much more expressive and less monotone. He just keeps my interest throughout the whole thing. So happy you guys reacting to him. You guys should start doing some Joey Badass too, i really want to see your perspective on some of his tracks from his latest album. Cheers for the time you put in for us to make these reactions and reviews!
His fire in the boothe is his best. That set the tone.
Lowkeys Fire in the booth! Must watch!
Low-key n akala are two of the best spitters here in the UK n spitting some real shit I respect ya mans opinion but the way u critique some things from the uk u lot don't really get it coz u ain't from here!! N all this lecture bullshit is starting to drive me Nuts lol these man spit knowledge that majority of their fans wouldn't know if it wasn't for these man putting it into lyrics id rather listen to rap that's teaching me something then some mumble rap or some shit about drugs or shooting peeps
I LOVE his content and if this were a Poem, it would've gotten a standing ovation. However, in a 'rap' format, the delivery and flow just didn't hold up. We'll check out some music from him down the line. Thanks.
Our UK rappers from London tend to grow up among the poorest people in our country right alongside the most wealthy.
They are our Poet's, our fighters for social justice and equality. I think some of us overlook the occasional drop in the flow because we need these artists to stand up against the establishment.
The perfect flow is present in their albums... but for me its that fire of truth and Knowledge, that separates them from the rest.
I think akala FITB4 has it all, the beats are tight, the lyrics are fire and the flow is incredible.. it's even got a poem tacked on the end for good measure... but you guys will find something to shit all over it... hahaha
''You guys will find something to shit all over it''. Did we ''shit'' all over the first FITB from Akala?
I'm just playing with you guy's, I wouldn't be hear commenting or subscribed if I didn't like what you do on here.
As an American, I wish more of our rappers had balls like yours. They used to. Back in the Nwa days they said what they wanted, like it or not. I respect that.
Governments have gotten way to restricting for all that now. Not sure about there but here. I get the sense that our musicians have to toe the line if they want their shot at 5 minutes in the spotlight.
His fire in the booth is probably the best there's ever been.
Lowkey,fire in the booth,alphabet assassin,ahmed,his grime daily
appreciate the time y'all put into making this video! good shit
when you react to lowkey fire in the the booth part 1 you will know about his flow he is insane , y'all should react
Santan Dave - Fire in the Booth is one of the deepest songs ive ever heard easily
You really didn’t pick the best lowkey flow to be honest guys. Search his songs. Voice of the voiceless for example
Yes! You guys finally did lowkey! Was hoping for fire in the booth! But thanks for checking it out bruddaz!!
Yes, he was speaking Arabic.
abdullah. They should have a rapgenius annotation for that. But, British rappers are so lyrically talented. Rhyme Asylum is a phenomenal group. JME is cold too.
Lowkeys fire in the booth is one of the greatest ever
Akhmed - Lokwey
Ollie11 this is a powerful song with a strong msg
Trivium just releases a new song a couple days ago called Betrayer. Man that song is sick. You guys should do it on this channel
Lowkey - Ahmed*
YES PLEASE
Ollie11 yes please lowkey Ahmed
Damn congrats on the channel success atm almost 100k. Imma put a request in tho for Akala fire in the booth 2
I think you hit the nail on the head when saying this comes across as "lecture" . Not in a bad way but Lowkey is a very political rapper. The lyrics, the wordplay, the message outweigh anything else in his music, when you are comparing other stuff such as flow, the beat etc.. That is his style, to get a message across.. I personally think his flow is good.. He speaks the truth, he gets a message across to people none the wiser to what goes on in the world, who's only knowledge comes from the news and what the tv chooses to show us. He gets no airtime in England, on tv or radio, same with Akala. They both rap to educate people. They could easily sell out and sign with sony, make millions £, release raps song with crazy beats, auto tuned to death, whilst glorifying money, diamonds, gangs, guns. But they don't, they both dignified.. You got to respect that
Word. They are two of the greatest artists in the world. They are two of the most enlightening as well. Period.
Man you guys are blowing up, that's awesome.
Great reaction, I think your wrong about the offbeat, flow thing, its just a different cadence due to his accent and the Uk's style so it would sound odd to you. You had the same issue with Akala. Still loved the reaction though guys :)
Also guys, you should check out his actual songs. Rather than just bars.
Check out Obamanation or THE DEATH OF NEOLIBERALISM
My man, you should Tweet Lowkey the parts we were talking about in this video. I would be willing to bet that even HE would admit he was off beat. I think Akala would say the same. Thanks for watching though bro.
Vince Staples - yeah right goes hard! Good work guys, best reaction channel on UA-cam for sure!
This is a freestyle that may be why his flow is a little of, go check out his songs
Lowkey - terrorist
Lowkey - obamanation
Lowkey fire in the booth
I appreciate you guy's honest analysation of the music and seem to agree with your assessment 95% of the time. Best reaction channel on UA-cam Great work👊
Uncommon Valor - Jedi Mind Tricks!
100k is on the way... I’ve been rocking with you guys since about 10k .. by Far best reaction Channel...you never got around to doing SPM for all the Mexican subscribers but it’s all good you still get local support.. keep up the great work...
You guys only listen to FITB and Cyphers where as you have not listened to any of the albums so it downplays the artist. These guys have been around a lot longer than you think so just give their actual songs a listen
Yeah, we'll certainly give him another listen on our on time just to get a better gauge for where he is at. This was by far the largest request for Lowkey.
Lost In Vegas drop the next low key mates
Nothing better than watching your reactions. I admire your honesty and knowledge. Brilliant channel. Brilliant content. Brilliant guys. All love from Scotland brothers 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the honesty you guys should react to Wretch 32 fire in the booth part 5 and lowkey alphabet assassin or fire in the booth
first channel i've ever turned notifications on for
I completely understand where you guys are coming from, in regards to it feeling like a historical/political lesson/lecture as opposed to it feeling like a nicely polished song or tune -- that's often the case with Akala & Lowkey. Their message/lyrics take priority, which leaves their delivery/flow slightly weak in comparison I suppose. Don't get me wrong though, they're still straight fire... You guys really gotta check out Wretch 32 - Fire In The Booth, Part 3 & 5 -- for me; he's the best overall rapper the UK has to offer.
Danpie hes a conscious rapper. Nothing wrong with that. The greats who started hip hop basically were doing the same shit talking facts about a certain viewpoint or lifestyle not about turning up or whatever bangs
I mean, hip hop started out as party/forget your troubles music and rejected 'reality rap' at the start.
Lowkey is a superb lyricist with splendid substance. I respect him heavily. Superb and splendid are understatements yo. Word. Shout out to the dope, intellectual UK artists and groups(Akala, Lowkey, Wretch 32, JME, Rhyme Asylum, Kano, Chip, etc).
You have done Lowkey AND Immortal Technique...Now listen to them both on 1 song...Voice of the Voiceless
I SAW HIM LIVE IN TORONTO
Uk rap catches the beat different, we have a different flow style ... get what you guys are saying but understand there is grime flow and hip hop flow
been a fan since the epic Megadeath reaction! havent missed one since...... i love the way you break it down and look for the meaning that the music is saying to you. thumbs up! keep it up
Almost 100k nice guys !!!
Wow you guys are the first reaction guys to actually know a lot about music, you actually analyse the artist properly. Love it. Subscribing right now
Santan Dave - Question Time
You guys are my favourites when it comes to UK reactions
PLEASE DO AKALA FIRE IN THE BOOTH PT4
Saw this and I dropped as much as I can.
This was the first rapper I ever listened to to get to. My Dad kept me from hip-hop for a long time during home school so he could introduce me to the right lyricists. at 16 he finally let me, and my siblings, off the chain with the political scence which was out of the UK.
(Age 16-17)
Lowkey
Logic (UK version had the name first ironically enough)
Akala
Mic Rightgeous
Caxton Press (Kingpin, MC Killa, Manage & Amy True)
Shadia Amnsour (She is an MC who spits exclusively in Arabic)
DISL Automatic (He is from Chicago but affiliates with the UK often enough)
Renee Soul
Mai Khalil
Filfy
Big Cakes
etc, etc, etc.
Also a bunch of these guys spit a couple "Fire in the Booth"Sessions. You guys saw Akala's Part 1
All these guys can be found on a UA-cam channel called "GlobalFaction"
Its basically the UK Equivalent of "TEAMBACKPACK"
(Age 18)
I then got into the grime scene.
Brotherhood (Blaze and Menace)
Kamakaze
Stormzy
Ms. Banks
Skepta
Giggs
I know I'm forgetting a lot but of em but I just got up from a nap, give me some slack.
I did all this stuff before touching the modern US scene but I started underground on UA-cam first. The following were who I found
(Age 19-20)
VI Seconds (He was the first)
Hyperaptive (He is outta the UK but it's a shame he retired)
Mike Classic
(Age 21)
Then TEAMBACKPACK spoiled me hehe. Yall are in for a treat at how many are waiting. no spoilers though
Currently, I'm delving into a lot of the "Golden Era" stuff. Really trying to reach back because I am unsatisfied with the current modern scene. Really enjoying some of the following:
(Age 22, Current Adam)
Nas
Jay-Z
Cam'ron
Snoop Dog
Eminem (of course)
Jadakiss
Talib Kweli
The Fugess
A Tribe Called Quest
Wu Tang Clan
These are just people at the top of my list.
Shooooot I have enough bars to last me a long time. Probably could write and anthropology or something. I'm just glad I discovered more people that appreciate the bars.
Thanks Ryan and Goerge.
Kidaf ft. Shadow the Great - Never Ending
Loaf Muzik - Butta for the Bread
Still waiting you heard?
React to LowKey- Obama Nation
U guys go deep, I’m a new Sub and I’m loving the content. Yo low-key fire in the booth pt1 u gonna love that shit . Real talk
You guys really should react more to Akala and Lowkey... lol who the fuck compared lowkey to neyo. Hahahahaha
IIsYouAndYouIsMe that’s what I thought at first like wtf but it’s the matrix Neo
Lowkey is one of my favourite rappers hands down. Seen him live recently and his flow got sketchy once or twice then too, but he laughs it off and his songs are on point, as well as his fire in the booth being one of the best, free..
I'd agree he's more of a poet and sacrifices flow to inform in this. However, it's a great platform to share this knowledge on and exactly what got me into rap (Akala too).
He's a performer but not in an egotistical way, dude's humble and just spat 200-bars in one take after a year away. Fuuuuuck re - recording that a few times. Thanks for looking at some Lowkey, I got hype when I saw this in my feed. He also gives great insight to things about the UK. Keep it up!
*COUGH COUGH* Still waiting for that TOOL reaction
Ryder Montauk Tool is coming
Schism - tool or stinkfist
I would love to see a reaction to the grudge
Ahhh, I really got into you guys through your Tool reaction videos and I've kept up with the channel since. You guys do some really great work. I have to say though you've missed the mark slightly here. Lowkey is an absolutely outstanding rapper. The characteristics of Grime which make it different to Hip-hop are often the characteristics which are nuanced enough to be lost on the uninitiated. Cornerstones of grime like the unique patois, pace and contemporary UK references make listening a bit trickier to begin with.
Also u didnt choose a good Lowkey rap to react to.... TRUST ME and listen to
Lowkey - Fire In The Booth Then u will see how good he is.
I appreciate your videos alot I love how you understand most of what is said and if you don't you try to great stuff guys.
never been a big fan of his flow. dappy - straight facts is the uk beat you need to check out !!!!
Keep the real reactions coming!!
React to lowkeys Fire in the booth part 1 please it's one of the best freestyle ever in the booth
Not from the UK but I support it all! Great video guys
Eminem - my darling
Great reaction. Love the format!
Do alphabet assassin and FITB
Lowkey is actually a speaker and activist as well as being a rapper. I think he uses rapping as part of his activism to shed light on important issues that he cares about
React TO ACE OF SPADES BY MOTORHEAD
or Overkill (live)
Shame it had to be this track, even though it's still decent. To be honest he's absolutely unbelievable and a lot of UK rap tends to be faster or intentionally on/off beat, frequently misunderstood by guys from the US in my experience.
LOADED LUX FREESTYLE LIKE SO THEY CAN SEE!!!
yes, it's Arabic.
and you may need to know that he's close to have his Phd in history
React to Loaded Lux Freestyle on Flex
Gotta be said lowkey is one of the UKs goats.. remember hearing his fire in the booth like 12year ago and still listen to it religiously👊
React to konan last night in LA
im glad you shouted out UK...cause when the elements of hip hop here were on the decline (spefically bboyin/bgirlin) around the early 90s and the main focus was the music...UK, Germany, and other European countries kept it all alive...all the breakn, djn, graff, and of course MCn...they resurrected the bboy/bgirl scene by creating huge events like Battle Of The Year, UK bboy championships, and others...which brought over competition from the states and in turn brought back that fire back home...of course not on the main stream level it once was in the 80s...but it returned back to the raw dance it once was...and from that, the states started investing in their own promotions and so on and so forth. now the dance is global and is as huge as its ever been.
Stranded - Gojira!
Bleed - Meshuggah!
Congrats on 100k
Please react to System Of A Down - B.Y.O.B
There are very few bands in the last 10 years that are able to suck you in to a kick ass song and then halfway through the song realize that they are speaking about something incredibly political or smart. That is a incredibly difficult thing to do and no one does it better than System of a Down!
A philosopher and poet. Lowkey is a real lyricist.
React to Black Thought and Method Man Freestyle on Sway
Impressive as always Respect for what and how you do, they are our Shakespeare's with gray hair.
Wretch 32 fire in the booth part 5
It just came out so you might struggle to get the lyrics on screen
I wish our country cared more about what you guys said, the bars and such. It’d be great seeing the rappers that have extraordinary and creative talent become more popular instead of the other artists making just a hard beat and a catchy hook and you can barely understand what they’re saying. Anyway keep growing exponentially, it’s insane how fast you guys have grown. Been here since the beginning. 👍🏻
React to All I Think About by Bad Meets Evil
And this guy had bars but I think this would've been more impactful if he punched in and recorded this prior, and then recorded the video
Yeah, kind of like what 'The Game' did with 300 bars....
Knocking on the 100k door, well done guys! React to Dave - Question Time, for some more current introspective U.K. rap!
Keep up the great work guys. Love all the videos so far. How about a little bit of "Sepultura" Refuse/Resist
The idea, was to put the news into the songs that the younger generation hear. In UK a lot of youths listen to UK Drill, and viloent songs, and have their understanding of things twisted. LowKey states that he raps like a lecture in a song too. React to Lowkey - My Soul (Global Faction, has a lot of the most concious rappers from the UK)
Disturbed - sound of silence. It is hauntingly amazing. Even versions where all the music is cut out and it's just his vocals are extremely powerful. Talent is talent and that song really showcases it
Lowkey is an activist so he is always lecturing, speaking, getting boots on the ground. That's why you're getting those vibes, the man can definitely speak! He's currently studying for a masters in middle eastern history and economics I believe.
