I know it seems like Obsessed Garage paid me to link them but they didn't! I'm just a fan and the group helped me really improve how I take care of my car.

Bravo! Very complete, comprehensive review. I own the 50SL MAX and was just searching on UA-cam for more info about it when I found your channel. I didn't know about the Braun but found it interesting HF is carrying it and you're right, the Astro and the Braun are VERY likely manufactured by the same Chinese company. Keep up the good work.
That's for the video. Lots of good details on all of the lights! I tried countless led and various inspection lights and most are useless for good paint correction. Especially with a white car. I got the harbor freight one and it really makes the swirls jump even on white paint. For $40 with the coupon it was too hard to pass it up! If I did it for a living I would have gotten a mutli color one. Thanks again for the video!
Wow, great review. I’m probably for with the HF Braun. I just need it to do a polish on my cars.
I just picked up the 50SLMax. I recently finished a 2 stage paint correction on my black vehicle and noticed I missed a lot of swirls marks. I was debating about getting the scangrip but didnt want to pay another $50 more for such a small difference imo. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video. I always wondered about how they compare. Now I know. I once had a chance to hold and "play with" the Scangrip. This was before Astros were an option. The other big option was Brinkman(?) - Anyway, I loved the Scangrip. Loved how sturdy it felt. It was just so good in my hands. It was priced a bit too high for me, though. I did get lucky and a buddy ended up upgrading to a newer model, so I picked up the Scangrip for a bargain.
Thanks for a great comparison! I made up my mind 😉
I have had the 50sl and the scangrip in my previous work place and had used them for over a year and in my experience i have to say they both do a excellent job!
I had recently bought a braun and i was just curious of other peoples reviews thats why im here since theres little to no difference in between the 50sl and the braun
But if your starting out and you need a color match light, go with the 50sl its definitely worth it! Because of the 1 year warranty .
Unless you need one immediately braun is the way to go ! You can purchase a 1 year warranty through harbor freight for 10 extra bucks and replacing it would be much faster than ordering online.
Great job, thanks!
Good video evaluation of detailers lights. Personally, I own the Milwaukee 2127-20 and it cost $199 with the small battery. It has terrific functions that I like and will likely use it 5 or more times per year and likely 4 hours at each time. The quality and functionality is worth it to me.
The obsessed forum you mentioned is a good forum as long as you only have good things to say about the products they sell. You will get blocked or removed from the forum if you share any info that might take sales away from their store.
Shitty way to run a business.. Sounds very CCP to me lol.
Great video, thanks heaps from Oz.
I love this video! Thanks for doing this for us
Epic comparison! I was just searching through the Obsessed Garage Facebook group for a light and saw all of these mentioned, then googled Braun vs Astro and happy I found this OG-spec review.
Glad it was helpful! I posted it on OG group but they deleted it!
@@JetFuelOnly self promotion I suppose. I bought the 50SL Max, cool light!
@@JetFuelOnly why did they delete it?
Self promotion I think. 🤷♂️
I just picked up the Braun for $26 during black Friday. I tested it and it highlights the imperfections in my paint with ease. As a weekend warrior I'll likely use it 2-3 times a year when I do paint correction on my cars. This is perfect for my use. Thanks for the comparison.
Good deal!
Missed that... lame buying now
Fantastic job on this video! I have made a couple of videos on the Astro 50SL and I absolutely love it. I am a pro detailer and the 50SL does everything I need. I have a ton of lights so I will just grab a different light if the 50SL is too bright for inspecting lighter colored paint. I am surprised that you decided to go with the Scangrip although I know they make high quality stuff, I just can't justify the price - I would much rather have two of the 50SL's or even one 50SL and one 50SL MAX for the price of one Scangrip. I would much rather have more battery life from two lights than have one slightly better built light. Cheers!
BPSDetailing good point! Thanks for the compliments!
My gen 1 scangrip battery just died. Trying out the Braun for right now.
Great video, but the HF lens DOES come out just gotta move it around to loosen it up
Gyeon did a collab with scangrip and have their own light called gyeon prism. It comes with a diffuser cap to help with the application of coatings and helps with seeing the coating on paint so not to leave high spots.
Good info! I did my ceramic coating and the light wasn’t as helpful as I had hoped! Sun and shade are the only way to spot those pesky high spots I feel like. Need to see if I can add a diffuser though!
@@JetFuelOnly I just purchased a Scangrip sunmatch 3 unit and was curious what you mean by adding a diffuser? This is a light diffuser to dim the light enough to see a ceramic job?
Nice comparison, but the lenses do come out of the 50sl and 50slmax. I'm going to assume it comes out of the Braun aswell. You just need to pop it off after you unscrew the silver ring.
Just received sunmatch 4 and does not seem effective for seeing paint imperfections on a metallic silver Audi. I have hard water stains I see at sunset but do not seem to show with this light
Great video, very descriptive. I see from SEMA maguires is coming out with a light that looks very nice, not sure on pricing.
Mike Mags thank you! I’ll be on the look out for it!
Mike Mags it’s a scangrip colab with meguiars.
Summit already sells it on their website for $180. They collaborated with Scangrip on it.
7:31 the lens is removable, that's only the cover, if you turn it over and tap the back the lens pops right out
Thx for sharing. Down the scangrip work well on white paint?
Yup
The Braun is $39 at harbor freight rn.
What makes a detailing led light different than a normal led light besides the color tempature and CRI?
That’s the main thing. Plus the lens helps focus the light in a way that swirls are more apparent. If you have too much light from different directionss (multi LED) swirls are harder to see
Another person mentioned using the scangrip line light to see high spots. Do you know of any cheaper options?
I haven’t but at $20 one of these would be a good try
How do you take off the ceramic coating?
Compound and polish
Never knew this stuff existed
👍🏼
OG fan :)
