  • This the Copper family - a family of singers from Rottingdean in Sussex in the south of England whose singing tradition goes back several generations. The Coppers used to work on the Rottingdean farm, through hard work rising to become manager. Their songs and country traditions made them legends in the world of folk music. Here you see the oldest Copper and his sister, and her husband, and four of their sons. They were singing at Ian Russell's Festival of Village Carols in Grenoside on the outskirts of Sheffield. This song says it all really! "Although I'm not rich and although I'm not poor, I'm as happy as them that's got thousands or more."

A song for every season! The family demonstrates that the past really does matter, and is worth remembering.

Great - keep up the tradition - we want to be reminded often of who we are

So good to hear the original tune and words devoid of all the modern corruptions that have beset this song.

Love them! Real folks who keep their family music from the 17th century alive. Saw them in Berkeley CA 30 years ago. Wonderful!
