@@jimbouwens1854 I just went back and listened again and you do have a point. There are also some serious intonation problems at various points, but to be fair this is a live performance. Interesting on the re listen I thought she sounded like a musical theatre person (just checked on google and I'm right). I wonder if she was uncomfortable singing with a hand held mike. As a musical theatre performer she would have to overdo everything to project her voice and it is a generally over the top style of performance. I guess what I really respond to in her version is that it is kind of an angry song and she brings out that element.
I think you can see it a number of ways. It can also be an angry song and a melancholic song. It shows just what a great song it is. Remember also that this is a live performance, not honed studio perfection.
Well, you'd have to go back even farther: Aretha Franklin, or the barn-burning gospel tradition. But when she skyrocketed to that high note, Todd wore an appreciative smile. Not that there shouldn't be a place for nuance.
I am a big Todd fan for 50 years plus. Can not stop watching this concert. WOW
The great thing about Todd is how he loves and respects other artists.
even mick jagger, david bowi, jimmy page, elvis costelo rod stewart and iggy pop
She flubbed the last verse--you can see it in her expression--but she nailed this. One of Todd's great songs of the last 20 years. Beautiful.
Very nice.
That, was a HUGE WOW!
My god, she is so pretty and such a good voice. Brava!
The look on Todd's face @ 3:37 says it all. This girl has some serious pipes
She reminds me of Linda Cardellini
Wow, I thought the version by Robyn on the White Knight album was good, but Teagan Earley takes it and puts a delicious R&B spin on it. What a voice.
She screamed without subtlety.

Why is she yelling? This was such an intimate song.

No, she nailed it. Check Todd's expression.
Wow. It's like she doesn't know her voice is being amplified: shouty, shouty.
Please. Todd was blessed to have that young woman sing.
That's what I said. But it's the Whitney/Beyoncé generation. Scream the words, that's what people think is good singing. No place for nuance.

Sorry. Sounds like a high school talent show singer.
JFC! That was awful! Embarrassing at best. Todd sure goes goofy sometimes. Very cringe for sure.
