I just had Roland make a watch for me. He custom made me a watch, 1 of 1. Great dial engine turned, finishing work front and back is wonderful. Being left handed he make it so I can wear it one my right hand. Love his work, I would highly recommend anyone if they want something special talk to Roland. Yes, you will be able to talk to Roland.
The best episode I think I have ever watched on this channel. No marketing guff, just history and enthusiasm from one of the greatest watchmakers alive. I hope you have Roland Murphy on again to pick his brain further.
Agreed. The best I've seen too. No Mr. Wonderful strutting his importance with stolen FTX money. This episode is about watchmaking, pure and beautiful. I bow to Mr. Roland Murphy.
If you pay attention to Teddies face and how much enthusiasm he has when listening to Rolands stories about his collection, you will understand why Teddy is the best in the Business. There is no fake emotions, just pure love and passion for the work he loves to do. This was a wonderful video and real watch enthusiast can really appreciate these types of videos. Not only expensive pieces matter nowadays. The story and the sentimental value of a watch beats any bling bling or overpriced hype watch im my book. Just Bravo on the video 👏
RGM was the only company that would even look at my Grandfather's Le Phare triple date chronograph with moon phase (Vajoux 88 mvmt I think) that hadn't run in years. They serviced/fixed it (making at least one part they couldn't easily source) for a very reasonable price. Did a great job and it is a great runner. I would love to purchase an RGM in the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. This format is great! It feels genuine, humbled and unpretentious. You can see Roland’s passion for horology. Such a gentleman..
Videos like this are why I love Teddy’s channel. Other channels seem to be all-Rolex, all-the-time. Teddy takes us into cool finds at all price points.
Murphy is hands down the top dog of American watch making. That he’s also a class act and any one of us can call him on the phone and he will actually be the one we talk to, you just can’t experience stuff like that anymore.
As someone who has several vintage Hamilton's and other vintage American wristwatches and pocket watches it doesn't get any better then this. I have been a big fan of Roland for many years and keep tabs on what he is doing. A segment on his favorite RGM creations would be a delight! His Pennsylvania Tourbillon is amazing. Thank you!
I’ve known Roland for quite some time and own several of his watches. I can’t say enough good things about him. The watches of his I own are all incredibly beautiful and functional. So I say hooray to Roland and keep up the great work. You truly are the greatest American watchmaker
This is FASCINATING, and reignited my love of the craft. No brand-name financial bragging, just history and passion. I'm excited to put on my Hamilton in the morning.
I really need an RGM. They were always the next watch for me and I’d forget for awhile. I think I need to pull the trigger. Teddy, thanks for showcasing such a unique talent.
This was so great. Thank you. It's so wonderful and refreshing to hear someone with that knowledge explain these genuinely interesting pieces. More of this, please, and no more of the Hodinkee-style videos of celebrities showing off their clichéd parade of Rolex and AP references.
Unfortunately, those 2 are pretty much the only brands most ppl know. Met a self-proclaimed 'watch enthusiast' not too long ago who's never heard of Longines, JLC, Zenith, and quite possibly the rest....😅
Please do more videos with him go back as many times as he'll let you in till you've gone through his entire collection it would be awesome great video
That was, fairdinkum, one of the best most interesting show & tell discussions I have had the great pleasure of viewing in quite a while. And what a collection! Some of the rarest & most beautiful horological pieces ever made.......Would that we could see the rest of Roland's collection......One to be envied I am certain. Thanks Teddy & Roland.
My 3 generations of watchmakers who worked at Hamilton in its hay day would be delighted that there are still significant segments of American watch craftsmanship alive in the Lancaster area.
Your best episodes are these stories of real men collecting real watches. Honestly, I cant stand a 15 minute watch review. Time is precious for me. But when someone sits and story tell that is time will spent for me. Keep this coming. Thank you.
Great talk with a very down to hearth, yet passionate man. Teddy, I appreciate how you give space and time to your guest. You have a very respectful way of doing an interview.
That Hamilton Cased Chrono with the RGM movement is very interesting. I serviced a Hamilton for a client a year or so back with this exact same case, but with an ETA7750 movement assembled by Hamilton for LL Bean. So cool.
This is one of the best videos you've made in my opinion. Educational and inspiring at the same time. Be great to have Roland Murphy and Roger Smith together in one video. Take care and I enjoy your content.
THE most delightful episode... EVER!! Absolutely splendid Teddy and all power to you Mr Murphy, you are indeed, very, very special......... MORE pleeeeeze.......
The legendary RGM. I live half a way across the globe from them and still used their services and heard about them a year or two after I've entered the hobby. Nice to see the face behind it all. Thanks Teddy for another great episode.
I can not express adequately the amount of fascination and awe in the gentleman's watch collection nor can i express how wonderfully thin the dial hands are in the first pocket watch he displayed. This is truly craftsmanship at its finest. I can not imagine the intricacies of the interior watch mechanisms. BRAVO AND KUDOS to the watch maker. Here is a craftysman that appreciates other craftsman's works. WOW
I really enjoyed this segment. It's nice to get the inside story on the inner workings. Next time you visit him, maybe you can have him show us the tools of his trade, and show us how he works and things are made.
As you know Roland is a very talented watchmaker. He is also very approachable, I have spoken to him about a verity of watch issues. I own 3 RGM watches and have had RGM repair a Kobold. Looking forward to attending the open house October 7.
Wow Teddy, great job getting this interview! RGM makes some amazing stuff and I _really_ hope he inspires more people to set up shop here in the US. I also love that he gets the recognition from collectors that he does, he is certainly revered by the collectors that know him and his work. And I NEED an RGM in my collection, I would be very proud of that.
Always an interesting episode when RGM is involved. He seems a truly nice and genuine person and is a treasure trove of watch/pocketwatch history. Oh, that VC pocketwatch was to die for!
This is one of the best episodes from any watch related channel ever. Just pure interesting, amazing content presented in an entertaining way. Thanks to you and you team Teddy. I hope to see more of that. Please make it a regular format and series. 🙏👍🏼 Special thanks to Roland 🙏⏱️
Definitely enjoyed this Teddy! Your content is so varied and genuine. I was so pleasantly surprised and excited to see this video with Roland, a true master watchmaker.
Teddy you made some great videos and I really love the history of watches and watch making you take us on. But this video was the Grand Slam ! Roland is a genius.
@@satl3161why does it bother you that he considers true watchmaking a breath of fresh air? Plenty of people would rather hear about this guy than 500 videos about a plastic disposable “watch”
@@satl3161 How is expressing one's opinion prohibit you from enjoying what you want? I completely agree with you, some people enjoy buying and wearing great horology pieces, other people enjoy spending money on expensive shiny gimmicks, and that's completely fine.
Lived this. Please do more on US based watch makers. Watch component makers. We have a great industry here still. Love the way you bring out the personal points. Keep it up!
This is a really interesting video. I really enjoyed the selection of timepieces. Thank you ! Much admiration for Roland's talent. Please do another video with Roland.
Really really like this historical walk through American / Lancaster County watch baking Teddy please do more I about American historical watches or watch collections with similar inspiration
Wow, some absolutely phenomenal watches. I particularly love the 801 Corp Of Engineers watch. I always loved those old war watches! If I had $13k to blow I would absolutely buy that watch. But OMG, that Dudley Masonic watch is stunning! I've never seen or even heard of that before, but I love it!
Amazing...Murphy and RGM are pretty much at the top of my favorite "indie" watch brands, and far-and-away my favorite American manufacture. And yes, I'd certainly savor a revisit on your part. Fantastic presentation again, Teddy.
These are amazing bits of history. I spent at least an hour on the RGM site- so many beautiful pieces. Thanks for sharing your work and your favorites, Roland!
A continuing series? Yes, please! "I don't like faux things..." best line ever. They really do not make things (even watches) like they used to. Watch manufacturers are are moving towards non-serviceable movements or even completely disposable watches.
There is always good quality available. You just have to pay for it. People whining about quality now that they wouldn't be able to afford in the past is the new complaint of whiners.
I just saw Roland on our local PCN (Pennsylvania Cable Network) as they toured his facility in Mt. Joy. It was fascinating, so I came here searching for a WDTT (what does Teddy think) episode - did not disappoint, thank you! Now I'm on the hunt for an rGm watch. 🙂
How refreshing, Teddy. It is entirely unpretentious, and evokes personal stories from the guest which don't necessarily translate to any influence from how watches are marketed today. They seem to be genuine stories of how a person (in this case, a renowned watchmaker) enjoys their watches without the baggage of any status quo whatsoever. I'm starting to feel like this series is easily more enjoyable than Talking Watches because the guests are 'watch people' - not in the elitist sense but one who's informed about watchmaking, its functionality and design and how they're incorporated into personal use. Safe to say I'm not the only person here who really enjoys and want to consume watch content without the air and snobbery part of it.
Teddy this was so awesome! Roland is my absolute favorite person in the watch industry. So American. One day I'd love to have one of his watches. Please do a follow up.

Curious how much something like that would be. I’m sure people would be interested to see it if you posted a video/picture on your channel.

I'd love to see a bespoke piece made by Roland for Kirby Allison.

It was great to see the old Bowman Technical School building in Lancaster reopen as a Hamilton boutique, too!

What an amazing man could literally listen to him all day. More please
I wish RGM would come out with 1 affordable watch (around the $1,500-$2,000 price range). I, (and I think many, many others) would definitely buy one.
I would agree totally. Am pretty sure you can get a truly outstanding Seiko watch for a grand which are just as good.
@@johnmartin7158I think Seiko is good, but comparing them to RGM quality is a slap in the face...
Wow. Roland reminds me so much of my late father. What a great guy and wonderful watch collection! Thanks for this one Teddy.

Had the PLEASURE of meeting Mr. Murphy last year. He struck me as being affable, friendly, and full of wisdom.
I immediately clicked when I saw the title! I've been obsessed with RGM ever since you released the other video of his shop!

Finally someone is highlighting the work of RGM. These ARE the finest American made watches out there. The level Craftsmanship is unrivaled.
I could watch 2 hours of this. Amazing, glad you're able to help tell these stories.
Excellent segment. Straightforward and all business. This man is a living legend. Thanks for a smart interview Teddy.
We appreciate what you doing for us enthusiasts Teddy. Thanks for this showcase.

Definitely enjoyed this Teddy! Your content is so varied and genuine. I was so pleasantly surprised and excited to see this video with Roland, a true master watchmaker.

What history, knowledge and heritage. Unbelievable video to watch, never change teddy
Excellent - Thanks Roland and Teddy. A second video would be appreciated. He is so humble.
I’m glad someone finally speaks about something valuable, and not about the new plastic swatch product. Not affected by the hype .
haha, true :)
