    In your experience, is there a time frame you want to keep the cigars in a dry box environment? Can you dry box too long?

    • @DLovWife
      @DLovWife  10 місяців тому +3

      Good question. In all honesty, I haven’t found a period of time that is too long yet. I have dry boxed cigars for over 3 months before. I plan on going further with it as well. My theory is that even though the dry boxed has zero humidity added to it. If the dry box is in the 50’s and your cigar is close to 70%RH. The cigar reaches an equilibrium point between the high and the low. Meaning, that if your dry box is at 55% RH, and you dry box an over humidified cigar. The cigar will equilibrate to the lower end 60%RH. To truly dry out a cigar is simply negligence. Going months without checking in on your cigars. Now, if your humidor is drier than mine, let say in the 30’s. Then your equilibrium point will be lower than mine as well. Your cigar could be pulled into the high 40’s to low 50’s. Basically the more drier your environment, the more you need to pay attention to your cigars. This is why I tell people to feel your cigars, listen to your cigars, and check underneath the cap. Conditioning times will vary based off of your environment. Lastly, the more cigars you dry box at a time will change the amount of time as well. The more cigars you are drying, the longer it will take.

    Love your videos and appreciate your wisdom. I'm fairly new to the game and still dialing in my humodor. I probably have it a little too dry in there right now. If they are reading 64% Rh coming out of the humodor do you still recommend dry boxing? Any ill effects towards long term aging benefits by being at 65ish vs 70 in your opinion?

      Thank you so much brother! I truly hope this information is helping you. 65% will be just fine for long term storage. 64% under the cap is a little wet IMO. The max I smoke at is 63% under the cap. I try to target around 60% under the cap for my self. You will just have to see what you like. If you aren’t haven’t any issues, then stay at 64%. If you feel like the flavors could pop more, then lower the humidity. The same applies to how your cigars burn as well. It’s just something that you will have to toggle to your liking. I hope this helps brother! 😃

    If you have a video that addresses this please point me to it.
    Why dry box a cigar rather than just storing it at a lower humidity to begin with?
    What humidity do you keep your cigars at for storage vs when they are dry boxed?

    • @DLovWife
      @DLovWife  8 місяців тому +2

      Basically the conditioning process works like this. If my cigars are let’s say 70% RH, and I place the cigars in the dry box which naturally rest at 55% RH @ 70 degrees. The cigars will find an equilibrium point between the high of the cigar and the low of the dry box. Basically my cigar will be lowered to the low 60% RH @ 70 degrees under the cap. This may take a few weeks to a month depending on the size of the cigar and moisture retention. If you keep your cigars at 62% RH, then your cigars will find an equilibrium point between the 62% and the high end of your cigar as time passes. This process is going to take much longer because you will be bringing down your cigars in a wetter environment than mine. After an extended long period of time, I suppose it’s possible to have your cigars gradually fall all the way to 62% under the cap, but I couldn’t tell you how long that would take. 🤷‍♂️ Also, I don’t know the long term effects of storing cigars at low humidity levels for an extended period of time. I tend to store my cigars as close as to the conditions they were stored at in the factory.

    Thank you for the great video and the great advice 👍
    I have some advice for you to, I actually started to separate my cigars, i put them in glass Tupperware and every cigar have his own humidity level at 64F°
    I think the best humidity level is just before the Cigar start to smoke by itself
    So for example my
    Montecristo No.2 is 60%
    but E.P Carrillo Pledge is 68% Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan 65%
    And Trinidad Media Luna 63%
    You should try it and let us know

    Do you ever cut your cigars before or during a dry box period? Ive found some cigars, even after weeks in the dry box, are still too wet under the cap.

    should every cigar band move if its dry boxed correctly? i ask because some bands seem to be tighter then others

    • @DLovWife
      @DLovWife  Рік тому +2

      Yes, you will definitely feel the cigar shrink from the original size. The band will also loosen up due to the cigar being less swollen. Not every cigar will do this because the band is stuck on to the cigar, but most will. 😃

    Been dry boxing in 58-60% RH for 24-48hrs, I do notice that I have to do little to no touch ups, notes are slightly more noticeable but cant seem to get a solid silky ash. Still perfecting.

    • @DLovWife
      @DLovWife  Рік тому +2

      You are on your way to perfecting it bro! Keep it up. Definitely extend your dry boxing time. Try 4 days and see if that fixes it. It’s truly and experiment until you get the results that you want.

    What’s the average wait time for dry boxing?

    • @DLovWife
      @DLovWife  Рік тому +2

      There is no average time I can give you. The cigars are ready when they are ready. I typically dry box until the cigars are between 60% to 63%. I also monitor the RH under the cap as well. If you keep your dry box stocked with cigars as all times, you will be much less concerned with time. I have dry boxed cigars for up to 2 months and down to 58% in order for a cigar to open up. 😃
