I couldn’t agree more with the “any action is better than no action”
There have been MANY times when I wanted to do something.. but was so overwhelmed by my own negative thoughts about it that I did nothing.. and then a few weeks past and the opportunity has passed for me to do anything.. I’ll just ask myself “why didn’t I just do it!?”
I’ve learned from those lessons because of how awful I feel about not doing anything!

Keep in mind, sometimes making a fast decision ... ends up being a decision you'll later regret.
Just look at all the people who get married on impulse - and it takes years and $$$ to undo - and the many, many people who decide to start a business on impulse, pour every penny they have into it ... only to see it quickly fail, and they have lost valuable time and all their money - because they didn't take their time and do the research.
FYI- most businesses fail within 4 to 5 years - and most start ups don't earn any money for at least the first 3 years - and end up putting the owners in debt and lost years of income they would have earned working for someone else.
The reality is, for many people they would have a greater chance of making money in Vegas, than starting a business - and wouldn't waste years of their lives working 24/7 and only ending up deep in debt.

I agree with almost everything you have stated. I may have missed it, but there is ONE acceptable time to take “no action” and that is when a person’s emotions are running high (either too emotionally upset or to the other extreme, too elated). When emotions are at the extremes of the spectrum, and a decision needs to be made, the BEST decision is to WAIT. At least until there is a period of settling down and usually after at least one night to sleep things over. The only exception to this is if there is a true risk to life (meaning not making a decision would result in a fatal error). Other than that, perfectly stated. 👍🏻

I agree. In times of crisis we need help and often seek action based on what others may help us see for our next step, not what we see ourselves and not knowing how to get there; even baby steps. And waiting a night/ day and not immediately acting on all our emotions is very important too, like you said.
      Very insightful comment.

Also, the times where one is making an IMPORTANT decision whose outcome has serious, long term consequences ...either personally or monetarily - if the wrong decision is made where it is far better to overthink it - than jump in and spend months ...years and countless $$$ and headaches trying to recover from.
I have started to successful businesses, been married for many, many years ... raised 2 very successful young men .... and when I look back, most of my successes came from taking the time necessary to research and analyse ...IMPORTANT DECISIONS that can send a person's life into a downward spiral for years - simply because of making decisions based on impulse and whims ... rather than carefully researched conclusions.
Too many people when they get older - look back with regret at jumping into an impulsive marriage ... or investing all their money and years of their life to start a new poorly researched business .... that ultimately will "FAIL".

My anxiety problems are deeply connected to the fear of failure and pursuing my dreams. I usually manage them but today something happened that made me fall into a loop of despair! I grew up in a very strict household and I was taught not to make mistakes ever, so I'd rather take no action instead of doing something wrong. So thank you Maria for this video, I really needed to hear this tonight ❤

I love you Maria, and I know this video is old, I just want to add how important it is to distinguish between situations where what you’re saying applies - where fear of failure is holding us back in life - and more impulsive situations like when we’re really emotional and it’s much better NOT to act in that moment!
This video has motivated me for my work today but you just talk in such a universal way about acting and there are definitely times when patience and/or perspective are valuable before doing something that can’t be taken back like hurting someone we love (or even a stranger) unnecessarily, doing something destructive that can’t be undone, making an impulse purchase because it’s on sale, even sending an angry email that’s not very eloquent or productive that we could rewrite with a clearer head the next day.
As someone who has lived in the past with a sense of urgency to escape my decision paralysis by acting out of a really scattered headspace and making bad judgments because I didn’t know how to get to a clear perspective, I’m such an advocate now for the value of patience in the right situations. A sense of urgency isn’t always helpful.
I wholeheartedly agree with your message though and I needed to hear this today! ❤️

This is how I know God is real! I have the worst anxiety and was slipping into a depression. I put off things both professionally and personally because I was simply to overwhelmed to deal with the “what Ifs”. This month though I was struck with this compelling feeling to do exactly what you said, take steps. So I did and I am now enrolled back in school, I have gotten a better Job that will help me support myself and my two children independently and perhaps the most important thing is because I took the steps to accomplish my goals I can now leave a relationship I have not wanted to be in for a long time. I stayed because of the support (financially) that was provided to me and the comfort in that support. I’m in therapy for my anxiety now as well and I have woken up at 345 am because my boyfriend is headed back out of town to work and I was trying to get back to sleep for a bit so I grabbed my phone got on UA-cam and here you are, Maria! Telling my whole truth with your kind, honest and encouraging words. I love you, I appreciate you and you help me and so many others to simply be ourselves and love ourselves because you do! Thank you beautiful earth Angel and Thank you My God for giving me strength, courage and understanding, but above all unconditional love. ❤️🙏🏾

😂 What she said by the 1:02 point in the video was worth a like in itself. Oh and by the way YES, I've failed big a few times in my life. No question about it. But you can go ahead and put an asterisk next to all of those. Listen, no matter how good you may be or how well your plans are laid, OTHER PEOPLE are involved and they can and will derail your plans and your life through either jealousy, indifference or just sheer stupidity. I'm almost 45 years old now and that's a gem of wisdom that younger people can take with them if they happen to stumble upon this video and read the comments!😂 Believe that much.

If there are any writers here, they can probably relate to the analysis paralysis. With us, it's not so much what other people think as what our internal editor thinks. That's the little voice that demands that each page, each paragraph, each sentence, each word be perfect as we write them, so we just sit and stare at the page or screen, or we keep trashing what we write as soon as we write it. I have had to visualize my internal editor as a naggy cartoon character and throw some metal over her mouth the way Michael Keaton does to Geena Davis in Beetlejuice to get her to be quiet so I can write. It sounds ridiculous, but it works, so I would add "Visualize yourself overcoming obstacles" to this. Thanks for the great video, Maria!

At 14:51 Maria is basically saying that it is extremely important to have the constant thought process of "Business before pleasure." Meaning take care of your business first, limit distractions if not all distractions. After you are finished with what you are supposed to do then you may have that relax time; pleasure. This thought process goes with pretty much in everything in life. ie, Work, when you are shopping make sure that you purchase the things you need first before buying what you WANT. This also goes with school, education is very important; business, do what you need to do then you can do other things that you like to do in your free time. I think Maria posting this video, giving us valuable tips that we can use in life is one of the best things on youtube. So, thank you, Maria, for posting this. It is very crucial in life to have all the tips in this video that kids or adults can use this in their life. xoxoxo

    Danny Choo (dude who got famous a while back for dressing up as a stormtrooper and dancing in Tokyo crosswalks) had a great phrase for this that has stuck with me for 10+ years;
"Something leads to something. Nothing leads to nothing."
You would think "well that's obvious", but a lot of the times, it's really not.

Maria, your wisdom is incredible and I'm so glad you have a platform and a kind enough heart and large enough mind to share it. This video.. it expressed everything so articulately and honestly and encouragingly. You are real and genuine and intelligent and so so generous💛

    Maria,
Thank you for your advice for taking the time to talk about this. We live in a world where everything is moving so fast where everything is go, go, go but at the same time I feel that we are living in a time where we are staying in one place, we are being complacent. We are so absorbed in social media and we spend countless hours scrolling and consuming unhealthy media, media that doesn’t offer nutrition or any positive things to take from it even if the media were consuming is just entertainment. In those hours that we waste on our phones we are robbing ourselves of time where we can use for learning, for creating creative thoughts, and for taking action to changes our lives.

Actually, I know of several situations when waiting and being cautious ... ended up being very beneficial. I also know of too many people who jumped into making quick decisions, and ended up with expensive mistakes that could not be undone costing them a lot of money and regret.
Once I waited 2 months to replace my AC during the hot summer, because I was not comfortable with the options I was given on such a big purchase. At the end of the summer the contractor contacted me, telling me the warehouse was clearing out their inventory, and I could get a much better AC that would last a lot longer - for the same price I was initially given. He told me my first option would only last a few years before needing pricey maintenance ... and the upgraded option would last much longer. He was right, my cheaper unit needs expensive repairs about every 2 years - and the nicer unit has gone almost 12 years without a single repair - saving me a fortune and a lot of headaches. I have never been so happy about delaying a decision - it was worth it. I knew from years of experience, I would regret the first choice I was given - decades of life experience can make a big difference between knowing when to wait - and when to act.
A similar thing happened when buying a newer used car. The options available when I first started looking, were not what I was looking for ... I held off for 3 months, hoping the car I wanted would become available - and sure enough at 3 months, the perfect car showed up at the right price. Again, I never regretted the wait on such an important purchase. I would have been very unhappy if I had compromised and rushed the decision.
Yet, when my son needed a new car, we got lucky as it only took one day to find his perfect car. When we saw it and drove it, had a mechanic check it out - and we bought. It was a little older car - but after owing it 12 years - it is still running great and hasn't needed a single repair. Again, a lot of experience clued me in when we saw the car, that this was a great choice.
My other son wanted to buy a new condo a few years out of college, after he got his dream job. I gently warned him about making such a big, serious expensive decision, when he did not know what the future would be for his job - and for the real estate market. He reluctantly waited ... and 3 years later, the real estate market where he lived, took a nose dive. It would have cost him a fortune between selling costs and depreciation to unload a property he was no longer that excited about - a financial nightmare, that would have impacted him for years to come - especially since he had large student loans to pay off. Now he is feeling smug, knowing he didn't get caught up the frenzy of buying something extremely expensive only to see it depreciate dramatically in value.
FYI - We know of too many people who get restless in their jobs, and decide to start their own business without doing extensive research before making the leap. Unfortunately, approx 4 out 5 businesses fail .. and it usually takes 2 to 3 years - IF you are lucky - to make enough money, to draw a salary - and that is if it is one of the 20% that succeed. The hours are brutal and the majority of people waste years of their life, work 70 hours weeks, with no benefits, no salary, no vacation time, no sick leave ... only to realize after 3-5 years, their business will never turn a profit, and continue to drag them deeper into debt. They have to walk away drained and exhausted - with huge debt to pay back and their savings depleted.
Our family was lucky, we were part of the 20% that survived - but had to endure a lot of long, long hours and intense stress for many years - but we learned a lot along the way about what NOT to do. Both of my sons work for companies who provide them with benefits and vacation time - and good salaries and retirement funds ... and my advice to them ... is to keep and appreciate their jobs, because the fantasy of having one's own business ... more often than not - turns into a nightmare.
The more research done, the better ... and if possible, when starting a business - keep your day job, until your new business turns a profit. Making quick decisions on 'important' items or life changing decisions, can end up costing you a fortune you may be paying for the rest of your life.

Thank you so much Maria, this is a wonderful and much needed video!!
I once read the sentence 'Failure is an event, not an identity' and I loved it. You're so right about taking change. Even little things like feeling I can't be bothered to tidy my desk so I can work better (which I'm now inspired to do!) - change and action is so important.
I also started something new for myself, lessons in a whole new skill and I'm so happy and free feeling, instead of saying 'I wish I could' over and over I just decided to be like 'I WILL be able to!' and now I'm on my way to that!!
    Thank you so much Maria

This video is sooo important. I loved every second of it. It is the absolute difference between nothing and something. Every word you say is the truth. I was so afraid to try things when I was younger because of this overwhelming need to be perfect. It took years of being a parent and growing older to realize that perfection is a complete illusion and always has been. Not one person or thing on this earth is perfect. Not even our precious kiddos 👶🏻! Lol. Once I freed myself from that constraint, trying things got so much easier. Strangely enough, I flipped to your videos to have something to watch while I was practicing learning my first crochet lessons of the simple chains (I forget the actual name of the chain). I got tickled because I had just decided I wanted to crochet some things I kept seeing on the Internet, which meant learning something new!! I can knit but I cannot crochet at all. So getting older and accepting my many imperfections has completely freed me to try many new things. I love this video and your advice is spot on. Thanks again, Maria!!!

I am in the process of regaining what I have lost. I let them take my most precious commodity myself. You didn't touch on human jealousy and negative thinkers who try to tear what your building down. I clicked this video IMMEDIATELY after I saw the title, and this is exactly what I needed to hear; for both my professional AND my personal life! I often get so anxious about everything that can go wrong or what people will think that I don't do it, or I'll put it off for days, weeks, or months. I also find myself waiting for the "ideal" time to start as well, whether it's waiting until Sunday or Monday, the start of a new month, or New Year. It's especially easy this time of year to just say "I'll wait until New Year/make it my New Year's Resolution". I know I'm VERY guilty of waiting until January 1st if I find anything I want to start something new or change about my life this time of year... so this year I've decided to figure out my New Year's Resolutions early, and start working on building towards them now.

You are a gem, Maria. I had a similar experience last summer, when I realized that my current job was not going anywhere. I wasn't making a lot of money, and I didn't see my situation improving. This led to my applying to Texas Woman's University for graduate school. The health studies program is online, so I'm able to keep my job and do my coursework concurrently. This is really helpful. I greatly appreciate you being honest and saying “everyone is replaceable.” I’ve always had an intense fear of being replaced that has stopped me from pursuing both career and personal goals. The general advice I received was to simply tell myself that that wasn’t true/I wasn’t replaceable, and after many years of trying this method I can honestly say it does not help. Denial is never helpful and carrying the belief that you aren’t replaceable at all is just setting you up for devastation if/when you do get replaced by someone. It sounds grim but it’s true and rather than letting it hinder you, use it to your advantage.

This is so important especially in cases where you are letting someone walk all over you and put you down constantly. Not only do you gain so much confidence and power by standing up for yourself, but you're actually helping that person as well, because you're giving them the criticism that they need to improve. I had a situation like this in college where I finally stood up to someone who had been putting me down for years- and they thanked me, because they told me they needed to hear that, and from then on they started working on them-self in ways that completely changed their personality for the better.
