The two of them were around for years making up stories. They teamed up with William Morrison to make money pretending the guys were Wild west legends. Previously Morrison had tried to do it with a guy called Joe Hines who pretended to be the outlaw Jesse Evans. Morrison brought these men together to pull of a money making scam

I have seen many body transformations over the years,and most came with a life of heavy work! I myself went from narrow shouldered to very wide after years of warehouse work. Thanks for rethinking the bodymorph connection. Brushys story still intrigues me and I think there is still more out there!

Using the shape of ears is a good identifier. But only the part of the ear that doesn’t change - specifically the cartilage. Anyone that tells you the ear lobe doesn’t change is dead wrong. It is loose skin. If you look, you can find hundreds of examples of ear lobes changing as someone ages. If you are objective, you will find that the cartilage part of the Kid’s and Brushy’s ears are extremely similar. If you look at younger pictures of Brushy, you will see a more detached lobe than his older photos.

Unfortunately the tintype is very warped, Billy's face was actually symmetrical and he didn't have a weak chin. If you look at the more recent photos of Billy, he actually looks identical to photos of young Brushy Bill. The 2nd authenticated photo of Bill in particular does alot. When comparing with the tintype, you have to imagine his face unwarped and symmetrical

@@ronshuman7656 yeah, that tintype really throws people off too, because it's so warped. There are more recent verified photos of Billy and they absolutely look like Brushy did when he was younger. Plus there's just a bunch of other evidence: Brushy knew Billy's story better than the historians and has all the same scars, the same eye color, etcetera. And that eye color isn't just a throwaway, he had partial heterochromia like I do, so he had multiple colors in his irises. Also when he visited the places Billy had been, he would often choke up and cry...which would take some Hollywood level of acting skills!
Along with the sloping shoulder discussion, lets look at the face. Compare the distance between the mouth and bottom of the chin. BIG difference. Also the width of the mouth. Brushy Bill had a wide mouth. BTK's mouth was much smaller..
Another guestion I have with Roberts account of Maxwell house is that a Mexican boy named Billy Barlow whi were new to the area somehow knew Maxwell good enough to come into his bed room and ask him .....who is it, who is it ? That don't seem likely.

Hmmm. I don't think so but I applaud your effort to revisit your previoius observation. Carlos has moved his shoulder forward and down to hold the flowers causing the sloped look. I agree that Billy might have had a little growing to do but not enough to change the skeletal structure. I'm not a physician, but I think because our bones are connected with ligaments, tendons and muscles, it would be hard to change the sloping shoulder without putting pressure on other bones...Brushy Bill's jawline just does not conform to Billy's and you can't change that without plastic surgery. Without knowing his inner life, I speculate that he loved the story of Billy the Kid and reallity and fantasy started to merge for him in his older years.
Age doesn’t change people to the point of being totally unrecognizable. It’s a good story but brushy wasn’t even 90 i don’t even think he was past 80 when he died.

Hey MAG, I have certain beliefs on many things but always keep my ears and eyes open on newer info. Ya just never know. It would be great if Billy lived for sure, but I do have my doubts.
Billy doesn’t have “dramatically slooping shoulders”. It’s an optical illusion. A. He’s wearing a scarf. B. He’s leaning up against a Brady stand, and his shoulders are literally resting to the back. Cover his head with your finger, hand whatever and you will see this via how the sweater fits. His age is likely closer to 16 here. It’s always amazed me people think he was 21 when he died. Just look at him. He was a teenage boy….Ferrotype, tintype, wet plate photos were not kind to anyone and it’s why everyone from this period looks rough. I forget why, but it has to do with certain bands of light it captures that we don’t see (ultraviolet I believe). Brushy Bill was not Billy. I think I’ve seen you elsewhere stating the same, but I have to say it. It irritates me people believe it. Guy was an imposter. As was Miller. The kid died at the hand of Pat Garret. No doubt about it. Period. Hico also knows it, but it drives the conspiracy nuts to their town.
It’s important to remember also that our muscular build declines after a certain age. Brushy claimed to be 90 years old when he passed. He would of not had the same muscle mass as he did when he was 30 or 40 years old. Since Brushy is an older man in this pic (close to 90 as he claimed) I think we seeing a more accurate representation of his skeletal structure versus a man with peak muscular mass. IMO his build or skeletal structure still eliminates him as being the Kid

What convinced me was the eight reels of Brushy Bill’s audio recordings; comparing numerous recorded details to the books & many publications. There are so many details Brushy Bill brought to light about what the popular books got wrong or omitted entirely.
Brushy should have known all the details, he spent the last 10 years of his life posing as Billy the Kid, telling anyone that he could corner all about being Billy the Kid, a federal marshal, running a wild west show and all sorts of things. His family said that he was chronically unemployed his whole life and was a "teller of tall tales".
I hit my mid 40s. Went from youth of 27 / 130. To 250, due to hard work than injuries. Now 65...I'm slowly shrink back. I think the stance of Brushy Bill is the McCoy. Ears( my ears r huge compared to my youth), nose bridge . He had teeth pulled. Gravity and time/ river change us dramatically. The recent researcher on Brushy Bill convinced me after the 4th episode. Some of keep similar appearances, such as actor Kevin Costner. Not always the yrs, but the mileage. Brushy Bill had many wounds similar to BTK. Good luck, brave posting.
Great video and I think it is time to end Brushy Bill rumors. It is 2023. I’m more curious about whether Billy the Kid and Billy Wilson were ever mistaken. I use to think that possibly the famous tintype of Billy really isn't Billy at all. I entertained the idea that the tintype was of one of the other gang members (Billy Wilson?) and that passing it off as Billy was a way of sending the authorities looking for the wrong guy. But then, I've entertained lots of notions along the way that probably don't make sense and have no basis in fact. I don't know??? Billy was a trickster, and no doubt clever. It's strange because I dont believe I’ve ever read anyone from the day commenting that The Kid had big ears. In fact, I dont think Garrett, in his book or George Coe ever mentioning Billy the Kid having big ears or any reporters either? Heres some more parallels for ya, Billy Wilson's full name was William Harrison Wilson so he was William H Wilson, The Kid; William H Bonney both first two initials the same, A reporter from the Las Vegas Gazette wrote that Billy Wilson was a little stouter than Bonney, and far quieter, he said he was light complected, light haired, with bluish-gray eyes and was wearing a broad brimmed hat , this was after the arrest at Stinking Springs. also billy was known to have had tucked teeth that poked out from under his top lip, also made his mouth look messed up, the facial recognition software said 93% match, those ear lobes are the same, keeping in mind the ears and nose never stop growing
When someone starts their sentence with "I believe" then that automatically remove any semblance of factual context for what comes next. Furthermore, why are people so sensitive when their belief is questioned? I don't care if you believe Brush Bill was Billy the Kid. I mean, he 100% wasn't, but you can believe whatever you want. Usually the bent out of shape thing works both ways. Like most skeptics who think Brushy Bill wasn't Billy The Kid can't even admit there's a possibility he was Billy The Kid. Case and point here where you say he 100 percent wasn't Billy The Kid without any evidence except personal opinion to back it up. That being said, I admit there's a chance Brushy Bill made it up and it's bogus. However, as I said on the main comment page, the history books also get so much wrong. Especially back in the late 1800s when they didn't have DNA testing to conclusively prove the man killed was indeed Billy The Kid.

3:05 Actually when you build muscle your bones will grow to adapt; hands, shoulders, jaw, all of it can get larger. Look at pictures of the Mountain actor (Hafthor) when he was in basketball, compared to when he became a strongman. He was skinner and long before, then his jaw literally grew wider, his shoulders, etc. And I'm not just saying this, you can look it up, bodybuilders are very aware of it. And we get more muscular as we get older, so him being slightly more muscular and having slightly broader shoulders than when he was a teenager, isn't a big stretch. Even my shoulders are more broad than when I was in my 20s, cause I was an underweight smoker...and I'm only in my 30's now
The hankerchief tied around Billy's neck might have made his shoulders look more sloped. And the tintype made the face appear more lopsided as one eye appears higher than the other. I also hear that the ear area on the original tintype was worn out over the years and retouched. MAG, have you heard about the original tintype getting retouched?
I have....and I've also seen the absolute, pure original CDV done in the early 1880s that is not retouched. I've used it on this very episode. If you want to know what Billy looks like...that's it.

Why bother? We have a crystal clear cabinet card of the tintype from 1885 that shows exactly what Billy looks like and has never been touched. I'm sure you'll find some reason to get mad about this documented fact as well...

@ronallen5920 I'm almost fifty fifty English and Irish. I think Billy was English for a lot of reasons. I also think that the Lincoln County War may have been an extension of something from the Old Country. I would like to do more research on it from that angle but I haven't had the time. Cheers

I enjoy your channel but I now believe that so much evidence points towards Roberts claim. From all the testimonies & the facial recognition that was done by the texas University that matched 93%...I'm a brushy believer 😊

First ; if you look at the picture and compare it to ( I would presume that is Morrison) on his left and note that Morrison shoulders are level from his neck to the outer shoulders .( Taking into account, the suit has a padded shoulder as common to the style of the day ) would appear somewhat level, which would make Billie's shoulder as slopping. My opinion. Second, and I am not saying he is Billy the Kid . My idea is as follows; If in your youth your appearance is important to you, it is a characteristic that very seldom changes in your life , as to say you will be a sharp dressed old man and every picture of Brushy Bill that I have seen reflects that . Note that he wears that Buckskin jacket like a king would wear his crown, and the Scarf around neck is always perfectly tied . So I am not saying he is, but you gotta to admit he's one cool old dude. I love that everyone has their own opinions regarding Brushy Bill Roberts. The opinions I am most interested in are those of the 5 living friends of Billy the Kid, known to have been close to him at the time of the Lincoln County war. Upon meeting Roberts, 3 of them, Severo Gallego, Martile Able, and Jose Montoya signed sworn affidavits attesting that Brushy Bill Roberts was, in fact, Billy the Kid. The other two, Bill and Sam Jones, also verbally confirmed that sentiment, although they would not sign affidavits saying they didn't want to be involved in the proceedings, should Bill Roberts choose to seek the pardon promised to the Kid by Governor Wallace shortly after the end of the Lincoln County war. All the comparisons to the famous tintype are pointless. The tintype was poorly taken, badly damaged, and has been "touched up" on more than one occasion, by people who had never met or seen Billy the Kid. Paulito Maxwell, who was a sweetheart of the Kid, said the tintype did not do Billy justice. She said it made him look roguish, where Billy was a handsome young man with boyish good looks. Comparing a poor image of the Kid where he is heavily dressed to a picture of Roberts and trying to determine shoulder similarities seems a little off to me, but whatever floats your boat. I have no idea whether Roberts was the Kid, or even whether or not the Kid walked away from Pete Maxwell's home the night Garrett went there looking for him. Neither does anyone else. Roberts is by far the most compelling man claiming to be the Kid for a wide variety of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that every known survivor of the Lincoln County war and known living associate of Billy the Kid identified Roberts as the Kid.

It is possible that the tintype is warped and it is possible that a life of work transformed him, but there must be more pictures available than these angle views. I would rather you interview an orthopedic physician who has knowledge, background, and data on how skeletons change or do not change. I am heartened that you are willing to admit your errors, but I am not sure that you were in error.
I'm not a gym workout guy and I even know the first thing that happens when you workout or gain upper body strength is your shoulder square off. You can go from sloped shoulders to squared. Off shoulders back to sloped shoulders quicker.

Using the shape of ears is a good identifier. But only the part of the ear that doesn’t change - specifically the cartilage. Anyone that tells you the ear lobe doesn’t change is dead wrong. It is loose skin. If you look, you can find hundreds of examples of ear lobes changing as someone ages. If you are objective, you will find that the cartilage part of the Kid’s and Brushy’s ears are extremely similar. If you look at younger pictures of Brushy, you will see a more detached lobe than his older photos.

Unfortunately the tintype is very warped, Billy's face was actually symmetrical and he didn't have a weak chin. If you look at the more recent photos of Billy, he actually looks identical to photos of young Brushy Bill. The 2nd authenticated photo of Bill in particular does alot.
When comparing with the tintype, you have to imagine his face unwarped and symmetrical

@@ronshuman7656 yeah, that tintype really throws people off too, because it's so warped. There are more recent verified photos of Billy and they absolutely look like Brushy did when he was younger.
Plus there's just a bunch of other evidence: Brushy knew Billy's story better than the historians and has all the same scars, the same eye color, etcetera. And that eye color isn't just a throwaway, he had partial heterochromia like I do, so he had multiple colors in his irises.
Also when he visited the places Billy had been, he would often choke up and cry...which would take some Hollywood level of acting skills!

Along with the sloping shoulder discussion, lets look at the face. Compare the distance between the mouth and bottom of the chin. BIG difference. Also the width of the mouth. Brushy Bill had a wide mouth. BTK's mouth was much smaller..

Hmmm. I don't think so but I applaud your effort to revisit your previoius observation. Carlos has moved his shoulder forward and down to hold the flowers causing the sloped look. I agree that Billy might have had a little growing to do but not enough to change the skeletal structure. I'm not a physician, but I think because our bones are connected with ligaments, tendons and muscles, it would be hard to change the sloping shoulder without putting pressure on other bones...Brushy Bill's jawline just does not conform to Billy's and you can't change that without plastic surgery. Without knowing his inner life, I speculate that he loved the story of Billy the Kid and reallity and fantasy started to merge for him in his older years.

Billy doesn’t have “dramatically slooping shoulders”. It’s an optical illusion. A. He’s wearing a scarf. B. He’s leaning up against a Brady stand, and his shoulders are literally resting to the back. Cover his head with your finger, hand whatever and you will see this via how the sweater fits. His age is likely closer to 16 here. It’s always amazed me people think he was 21 when he died. Just look at him. He was a teenage boy….Ferrotype, tintype, wet plate photos were not kind to anyone and it’s why everyone from this period looks rough. I forget why, but it has to do with certain bands of light it captures that we don’t see (ultraviolet I believe). Brushy Bill was not Billy. I think I’ve seen you elsewhere stating the same, but I have to say it. It irritates me people believe it. Guy was an imposter. As was Miller. The kid died at the hand of Pat Garret. No doubt about it. Period. Hico also knows it, but it drives the conspiracy nuts to their town.

It’s important to remember also that our muscular build declines after a certain age. Brushy claimed to be 90 years old when he passed. He would of not had the same muscle mass as he did when he was 30 or 40 years old. Since Brushy is an older man in this pic (close to 90 as he claimed) I think we seeing a more accurate representation of his skeletal structure versus a man with peak muscular mass. IMO his build or skeletal structure still eliminates him as being the Kid

Ears( my ears r huge compared to my youth), nose bridge . He had teeth pulled. Gravity and time/ river change us dramatically. The recent researcher on Brushy Bill convinced me after the 4th episode. Some of keep similar appearances, such as actor Kevin Costner. Not always the yrs, but the mileage. Brushy Bill had many wounds similar to BTK. Good luck, brave posting.

Great video and I think it is time to end Brushy Bill rumors. It is 2023. I’m more curious about whether Billy the Kid and Billy Wilson were ever mistaken. I use to think that possibly the famous tintype of Billy really isn't Billy at all. I entertained the idea that the tintype was of one of the other gang members (Billy Wilson?) and that passing it off as Billy was a way of sending the authorities looking for the wrong guy. But then, I've entertained lots of notions along the way that probably don't make sense and have no basis in fact. I don't know???
Billy was a trickster, and no doubt clever. It's strange because I dont believe I’ve ever read anyone from the day commenting that The Kid had big ears. In fact, I dont think Garrett, in his book or George Coe ever mentioning Billy the Kid having big ears or any reporters either? Heres some more parallels for ya, Billy Wilson's full name was William Harrison Wilson so he was William H Wilson, The Kid; William H Bonney both first two initials the same, A reporter from the Las Vegas Gazette wrote that Billy Wilson was a little stouter than Bonney, and far quieter, he said he was light complected, light haired, with bluish-gray eyes and was wearing a broad brimmed hat , this was after the arrest at Stinking Springs. Who knows.

Usually the bent out of shape thing works both ways. Like most skeptics who think Brushy Bill wasn't Billy The Kid can't even admit there's a possibility he was Billy The Kid. Case and point here where you say he 100 percent wasn't Billy The Kid without any evidence except personal opinion to back it up. That being said, I admit there's a chance Brushy Bill made it up and it's bogus. However, as I said on the main comment page, the history books also get so much wrong. Especially back in the late 1800s when they didn't have DNA testing to conclusively prove the man killed was indeed Billy The Kid.

Look at pictures of the Mountain actor (Hafthor) when he was in basketball, compared to when he became a strongman. He was skinner and long before, then his jaw literally grew wider, his shoulders, etc.
And I'm not just saying this, you can look it up, bodybuilders are very aware of it.
And we get more muscular as we get older, so him being slightly more muscular and having slightly broader shoulders than when he was a teenager, isn't a big stretch.

The hankerchief tied around Billy's neck might have made his shoulders look more sloped. And the tintype made the face appear more lopsided as one eye appears higher than the other. I also hear that the ear area on the original tintype was worn out over the years and retouched. MAG, have you heard about the original tintype getting retouched?
I have....and I've also seen the absolute, pure original CDV done in the early 1880s that is not retouched. I've used it on this very episode. If you want to know what Billy looks like...that's it.

I dont think Brushy was the Kid, but, that tintype is definitely deformed with weathering, needs to be acknowledged when making facial comparisons no?
Just look at the CDV of the tintype from the mid 1880s. It’s untouched. Clear as day.

I love that everyone has their own opinions regarding Brushy Bill Roberts. The opinions I am most interested in are those of the 5 living friends of Billy the Kid, known to have been close to him at the time of the Lincoln County war. Upon meeting Roberts, 3 of them, Severo Gallego, Martile Able, and Jose Montoya signed sworn affidavits attesting that Brushy Bill Roberts was, in fact, Billy the Kid. The other two, Bill and Sam Jones, also verbally confirmed that sentiment, although they would not sign affidavits saying they didn't want to be involved in the proceedings, should Bill Roberts choose to seek the pardon promised to the Kid by Governor Wallace shortly after the end of the Lincoln County war. All the comparisons to the famous tintype are pointless. The tintype was poorly taken, badly damaged, and has been "touched up" on more than one occasion, by people who had never met or seen Billy the Kid. Paulito Maxwell, who was a sweetheart of the Kid, said the tintype did not do Billy justice. She said it made him look roguish, where Billy was a handsome young man with boyish good looks. Comparing a poor image of the Kid where he is heavily dressed to a picture of Roberts and trying to determine shoulder similarities seems a little off to me, but whatever floats your boat. I have no idea whether Roberts was the Kid, or even whether or not the Kid walked away from Pete Maxwell's home the night Garrett went there looking for him. Neither does anyone else. Roberts is by far the most compelling man claiming to be the Kid for a wide variety of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that every known survivor of the Lincoln County war and known living associate of Billy the Kid identified Roberts as the Kid.

The information given by Judge Bobby Hefner (The Trial of Billy the Kid) offers enough to hold a viable argument. (I am not sold on Brushy being the Kid, but as time goes on, I'm not firmly holding to the history handed down to us via Pat Garrett and especially Walter Noble Burns, etal.) @@MankindMediaLLC

The tintype pic you use of Billy is a retouched version.......the original is so badly degraded there is no way to actually see the earlobes.

It is possible that the tintype is warped and it is possible that a life of work transformed him, but there must be more pictures available than these angle views. I would rather you interview an orthopedic physician who has knowledge, background, and data on how skeletons change or do not change. I am heartened that you are willing to admit your errors, but I am not sure that you were in error.
Since we have a cabinet card done in 1885 of the original ferrotype, I'd say no....the image is not warped....

I'm not a gym workout guy and I even know the first thing that happens when you workout or gain upper body strength is your shoulder square off. You can go from sloped shoulders to squared. Off shoulders back to sloped shoulders quicker.
