Any Marathi movie featuring Mukta Barve (Renowned actress) like Jogwa, Amhi Doghi , Mumbai Pune Mumbai etc or an awesome movie like “Kakasparsha” (Priya Bapat, Sachin Khedekar) or “Kalat Nakalat” are amazing movies to begin with . There are tons of comedy movies by the legendary trio - Ashok Saraf, Laxmikant Berde and Sachin Pilgaonkar or lots of other movies with good storylines that should also be eventually explored !
Marathi is my mother tongue, so I like when you take a note of something Marathi! Dombivli is a sub-urb of Mumbai. So they have done a word play on a Zombie film set in Dombivli - combining two to make the title - Zombivli. There are many other good Marathi movies but the problem is that they cannot be translated or dubbed or subbed to create the same impact. Hence not recommending any of those movies. For example, Sinhaasan, some of Ashok Saraf's best comedies etc. Most of good Marathi stuff is very contextual and has strong cultural and lingual references, hence not suitable for you. Otherwise Marathi film, and especially stage/drama industry is a powerhouse of talent - be in acting, music, singing or any other aspect. Among the people you have already known/liked, the following are Marathi - Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle (Lata's sister and legend in her own right), Mahesh Kale, Rahul Deshpande (singer who you saw in a duet with Mahesh Kale), Madhuri Dixit, Ajay-Atul (composers of Sairat and Deva Shree Ganesha and many other songs), Atul Kulkarni (in Hey Ram), Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (classical singer), Nutan (Kajol's aunt), Ashutosh Gowariker (the director of Lagaan, Swades, Jodha Akbar) For the classic month I could have recommended Marathi classic Pinjara. It has great music and some great acting by two of the tallest actors of Marathi movie/stage. The premise of the movie is very interesting. It's a story of a Caravan group and a girl dancer who gets acquainted with a very righteous school teacher who tries to emancipate the Dancer girl. Slowly, he gets enamoured by her, falls in love and eventually becomes a drunkard. It's a conflict between two moralities and how the righteous one succumbs to the pressure of glamour and alcohol. The songs were very meaningful and melodious! Pinjara the title means a Cage - symbolic of how the righteous teacher falls into the trap and cage of all the lures. The only reason you may not like that movie could be because it is dated (low quality) and simpleton and some over the board acting (in line with those times). It has a great core theme and two stalwarts (Shriram Lagoo and Nilu Phule) who are considered acting legends - even in other language cinema in India. I am not recommending that movie because it's far too dated and difficult to keep you engaged. You should watch Sant Tukaram, though not sure if you would appreciate it. It's a titular movie on a great sage from 17th century. The movie was made in 1937 and was adjudged one of the three best films of the world at the Venice Film Festival in 1937 and was showcased in other international film festivals. The simplicity, freshness of the movie is noticeable even today. Bollywood is in Mumbai (Bombay) because it's in Marathi speaking state (Maharashtra) and all the pioneers of the Indian film industry came from here. At one point (in 1910's, 1920's) Kolkata (Calcutta) and Bombay were two equally strong centres of Indian cinema. The Marathi movie Harischandrachi Factory, which you liked, is based on a Marathi maverick (Dadasaheb Phalke) who established Indian cinema in early years. After 1930's Kolkata/Calcutta film industry lost sheen. With emergence of Lata Mangeshkar, and Raj Kapoor-Dilip Kumar-Dev Anand in 1940's, Mumbai became the only centre of Hindi cinema and later became Bollywood as we know today. So remember, the Marathi connection in the history and evolution of Bollywood! As a side note, you should watch more of young and extremely talented singer Rahul Deshpande. Check out some great songs from his UA-cam channel or his other performances. His movie on his grandfather and great singer Vasantrao Deshpande is eagerly awaited.
Great information I feeling proud after knowing this type of amazing and creative knowledge about our marathi industry 🙌🙌 thanks for the information it's really.. really.. really useful and beautiful
Most mass movies (yes, they exist) in Marathi are comedies or romance. So, it is not unusual that they decided to give a comic twist to a done-to-death genre of movies.
Dombivli is a very famous suburb in Thane which is just next to Mumbai. The story is how Zombie outbreak happens in Dombivli and hence the name Zombivli. The director of this movie is a friend of one of my ex office colleagues.
Dombivli isn't suburb. It's a satellite city to mumbai deep inside maharashtra . Suburbs of mumbai means mulund , nahur , vikhroli , dadar , csmt etc that are located within the city. Mumbai is a city which comprised 7 islands and dombivli , thane , navi mumbai , Kalyan etc are its satellite cities . It's same like delhi where gurugram , faridabad , ghaziabad and noida are satellite city to delhi. Similarly pimprichinchwad is satellite city to pune . Overall mumbai and all it's satellite cities form the mumbai metropolitian region.
I am a MAHARASHTRIAN and my mother tongue is MARATHI. I've lived my whole life in DOMBIVLI and I live in the USA now......and right now, I am watching an American watching a Marathi movie based in Dombivli.....what a crazy and funny world we live in 😄😁😆
🧟♂️ I hate zombie movies but loved *Train to Busan* (Yeon Sang-ho, 2016). Also hate vampire movies but loved *Only Lovers Left Alive* (Jim Jarmusch, 2013). 🙊 The zombie romance Korbin mentions might be *Warm Bodies* (Jonathan Levine, 2013)? Anyway, you should watch the song _Alif Allah_ (alternatively titled _Jugni_ 🥰) by *Arif Lohar* and *Meesha Shafi* from Coke Studio season 3. 💟😻 And you should watch *Bin-Jip* (Kim Ki-duk, 2004). 👀
Even I hated Zombie movies until I watched Train to Busan. Koreans have really honed zombie movies and series for sure. I suggest you watch korean series Kingdom (2 seasons) and new upcoming series called All of us are Dead
Actually We Marathi people always prefer to watch bollywood Movie's since long time.. from long time bollywood Movie's easily earn minimum 70cr by releasing movies in maharashtra..

Mumbai pune Mumbai is not for westerners! It isn't even for non-marathi people.
I personally liked काकस्पर्श a lot. But, I don't think Americans would understand the social constraint and emotions involved.
