Yes, he is a fine actor too, he plays the villian perfectly here! He's multi-talented! So is Anthony Andrews, he has played villians. Have you ever seen him as Emperor Nero in "A.D."? He played a very sadistic Nero! Also, he plays the noble knight hero, Ivanhoe in the movie of the same name. Ian McKellen plays the villian here, but plays a good-guy character Gandolf in "The Lord Of The Rings"!

Oh, now I get it. Armand was unconscious, he didn't actually see the fight and how lethal Percy can be. As far as he's concerned his attackers could have ran away and Percy just found him and brought him to the inn. That's why he buys Percy's " fop " charade.

Hello! Just wanted to say thank you SO much for uploading this! As a fan of the Scarlet Pimpernel ever since I was in elementary school - I can't believe that it took all these years for me to find this! I had watched the Richard.E.Grant version and didn't even think to watch the 1982 version (I now prefer this 1982 version!) Last night, my mother, son, two younger brothers, and I had a *family movie night* and watched your uploads. My mom especially was really into it. So thanks & cheers!

The Scarlet Pimpernel is such a wonderful movie. Every young boy wants to become like Anthony Andrews, athletic, refined, witty, adventurous, intelligent, and desired by all the girls like the Scarlet Pimpernel. Every young girl want to become like Jane Seymour, refined, beautiful, intelligent, and desirable like Marguerite St Just.
Even though the Scarlet Pimpernel comes off as a bit effeminate. He is really under the façade, the ultimate gentleman. So of his lines are absolutely wonderful. like "If the invitation is from you madam, I shall make myself free." You know if that was a real situation the woman would have been more than moist.

Many of these French citizens went to their deaths with courage and composure; but not all. Others cried, screamed, begged for their lives. Particularly the women & children. They Guillotined children during the terror? Oh, yes indeed. Did this have any effect on the blood thirsty mobs who assembled in the square each day to witness this bloody horror? it did. But not enough to elicit any significant compassion for the vitctims of this national psychosis. There was an ironic justice to this however: there were those in the crowds screaming for blood who ended up under the guillotines blade themselves. Neighbors informing on neighbors was all that was required to end up victims of the terror. No one was truly safe. not even Robespierre, the ultimate architect of this nitemare.
