  • Today, we are going to check and test out the Wyze Home Monitoring Security Alarm System. We will do a quick unboxing, set it up and test it and see if this Home alarm system which has a pretty affordable professional monitoring can compete with other brands like the Ring and Simplisafe.
    As the thumbnail shows though, there are some things that are missing as to the features and also how wyze set this up that makes this system locked in to the subscription.

    We started out with Ring, spent hundreds on all their cameras and HAD to upgrade our Internet, to the top tier/speed, in order for all the cams to work....even had a couple extenders. Wyze works great for us and we have a dog & Grandkids which means, sometimes a door is opened to let the dog out and that extra time to enter the code would be nice.

    Fantastic review! You are going to save a lot of money for people who are deciding on this alarm system. Most burglars don't cut the power or internet. They are usually in and out in just a few minutes. When my in-laws house was broken into(29yrs ago) the bad guy just leaned into the front door and pushed on it breaking the wood around the deadbolt. Some construction workers saw the whole thing and said he was in and out. But I do agree with you about having a backup in case someone cuts your power. That also goes with your security camera system. These days the criminals are getting more sophisticated. We need to stay one step ahead. Thanks again for your hard work!

      Backup is a must… I use my ring alarm for notifications if my power and/or my internet is down..and if it does, I check the Nextdoor app in my neighborhood making sure the outage is not just in my house, and if it is, then I have to go back home to check it out..

    I purchased the Ring alarm Pro after watching this review a year ago. After working with Ring and Eero for many months, I returned the unit. We were never able to figure out why my perfectly working internet would slow down to a crawl or drop out all together. Eero is a great product and I happened to have one to test with along the Ring Alarm Pro. Everything worked fine until you swap in the Ring. I returned it because even though I can connect after my router, I lose cellular backup, which to me was the main selling point of the Ring Pro

      There are some more things I’m noticing that wyze needs to improve…when power is out, it does have a backup battery but you don’t get any notifications on your phone that the power is out, 8 hours later the hub is dead and if you are out of the house, then you didn’t know that the power went out and now the alarm is useless.

    Why put cellular backup in just one device? Get a $100 battery backup for the router and use a WAN failover like cellular for your WHOLE house.

  • @LabWagun
    @LabWagun 2 роки тому +19

    A good solid review, especially noted for the lack of a secondary notification. But for those with back-up power that feeds whole house...this is still a viable system so long as you realize the usual time gap in comms while the power sources cycle...likely less than 5 minutes. I still like the idea that Wyze provide a cellular/mobile option...rathe than just WiFi. They are a progressive start-up, and quite reliant on start-up funding...so more connection options may stabilize their funding streams. Regardless, I like that they are competing and working hard to lower home security costs.

    • @jjnxyz4368
      @jjnxyz4368 Рік тому

      5 minutes is longer then the average robbery, also if they know you have this system they'll just cut your internet at the box. Still it is sooo much cheaper then the other options and a UPS for a router with a few hours battery will still be cheaper if a bit clumsy, the main thing about security systems is NOT TO LET ANYONE KNOW YOU HAVE THEM. DON'T PUT SENSORS IN PLAIN SIGHT AND DISGUISE THEM IF POSSIBLE!

    I have been an avid user of Wyze products for quite some time, and while I genuinely appreciate the innovative approach they bring to home monitoring, I recently encountered a situation that I believe deserves attention.
    My experience with the Wyze home monitoring system has been generally positive, but I faced an issue that halted its functionality. I made multiple attempts to address this concern, reaching out to the support team in hopes of finding a solution. However, the communication seemed primarily via email, which made it challenging to address the issue effectively.
    As someone who values home security, I believe it's crucial for any monitoring system to be robust and dependable. My intention in sharing this feedback is to highlight the importance of prompt and efficient support channels. When it comes to the security of our homes and loved ones, having reliable communication and swift problem resolution is paramount.

    I have an old school ADT alarm with wired sensors on all entries and wired phone dialup, about $2000 to install. The monitoring fees were high, $75/month. After many years, the panel failed. I had to decide whether to replace the panel, or go to newer tech. The price of the Wyze is $100, plus $5 / month monitoring fee. So cheap, and mostly does the job. The Ring Alarm is $250 with $10/mo monitoring, and it's probably a little better. Both are much cheaper than my old system. It's better to have an alarm that is less than perfect, rather than have no alarm. I'll give Wyze a try and if I don't like it, go with Ring. If it scares off even only one burglar, it's a bargain. More than money is your safety. I've had 3 burglars since my alarm panel failed, and I was home. Scary. I yelled and ran them out, but if they had been hard cases, I might be dead. For me, a working alarm is a must.

    Their V3 cams are great cameras if all you need are basic cameras. I really like mine. The rest of their products are half baked at best though this looks like it as potential. Eventually I'll probably swap out my V3s for Eufy cams since I won't use Ring, Blink, or Nest products.

Ring was shaky in the beginning but they have taken steps to secure their cameras security recently after many complaints. Why in the world would you need a cellular backup anyways? 9 times out of 10 you’ll be home when the power goes out, + most power outages occur when it’s thunder storming. No one wants to go breaking into houses in the middle of a thunderstorm. It’s not that big of a deal, they’re a newer alarm system and they’re continuously working on new features.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  3 роки тому +4

      You need cellular back up trust me…the 1 out of 10 times the power is out, that’s the time you need your alarm to work. I do get notified by ring if my power or my internet is down and when it does, I check the next door app in my neighborhood and make sure that it is not just my house and if it is, I go home to check it out…let’s say your there was an electrical short at your house, which started a fire, tripped your breakers..with Ring aside from having a smoke and fire alarm, you will also get notified via cellular backup and it will call the fire department will be dispatched…how about if you have a wyze alarm? What will happen?

      When you work 12hrs a day and are not home as much as you are there you do not want to know what's going on when you are not at home?? Really?? Do you not work and are home all day? 9 times out of 10 my power goes out when I am not at home and with cellular backup I still know what's happening. You don't want to know someone is raping your house in real time as opposed to getting home several hours later and you door is kicked in and you have major damage from a 2hour storm and then have major water damage that could have been avoided? Really? Did you really think about what you just said?? It appears not!

    • @johnszatkowski6898
      @johnszatkowski6898 3 роки тому

      Let me take that one step further, Say a pipe bursts in your home would you prefer the water to flow for several hours vs. knowing there is a problem and you can avoid thousands of dollars of extra damage because you could stop the problem because a system let you know it was happening? Yes, extra cost for flood/freeze sensors but peanuts vs. the damage that can happen. So in case the power goes out and without Cellular backup you have NO clue whats going in your home and you just have no clue till you get home and fine all your stuff ruined that could have been avoided. If you've dealt with insurance they will weasel their way out of paying at any costs and come up with a fault on your end or refuse to pay and drop your policy like a rock. I know many people that got screwed and had to pay out-of-pocket for "not covered" damage from their insurance policy. So, long story short you get what you pay for and Wyze is a total joke for any protection. Ring and other systems will give you a certificate that will give you a discount on your insurance policy as a valid security system and works with police and fire to prevent further damage to your home! If you live in an apartment then Wyze is for you but wont cover property loss and personal loss! Do you homework!

I already know people that had Wyze thinking they were safe only to come home and find there house raped without a single notification and QUICKLY dropped it and went elsewhere. Not happened to me because I never put myself in that situation and I know other people that did and were let down! OK, you saved $5 a month but what good is that when your house is burned down or rapped because someone simply cut your cable connection and you have NO CLUE. Thank about that? What did you really save at that point? I get most people like to live in the "perfect" world but I know myself nothing is perfect. You live in your "perfect" world till you get burned and then lets have this conversation again because you decided to save yourself $20 a year for no cellular backup that other systems offer for only $30 a year more WITH notifications and you have a CLUE as to what's going on around your home/place. Sleep well knowing what you have is NOT worth it! You get what you pay for to save a measly $20 a YEAR for cellular backup and know what's happening 24/7???? Are you kidding me? How does cellular backup work ?? If your not home and your phone is with you how does a system work with cellular?? Also I thought I read on Wyze that this had battery backup?? I’m really confused on the cellular backup though. What exactly is that and how does it work if your cell phone is with you out of town. With cellular backup wouldn’t you have to be home with your phone ??

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  2 роки тому

      Cellular backup like on the ring alarm, they will have it on their base station. It is a separate cellular/data connection and it is not going through your phone.

    So I used to have SimpliSafe $15 a month…I went and got Wyze which is wayyyy cheaper. My only issues with the Wyze security (and Im new so I might be missing something): the alarm(siren) is really low. I only have an 1800 sq ft house and you can’t hear crap from the Wyze hub. Im seeing that the cameras may provide a siren and I have a bunch of those, so I’ll look into that…2nd issue which is minor..it’s kind of annoying to get the notifications of my doors opening (even when the system is disarmed)…motion sensor does that too (even when it’s disarmed)…kind of annoying…I’m still playing with settings so this may be stuff that can change…the reallyyyyy good news is the monitoring is so fast when they contact you I was convinced it was fake…I forgot alarm was armed and opened the garage door to put my trash 20ft away into the can and by the time I got back to that door text on my phone was from the monitoring company…that’s extremely good!!

    Wyze Home Monitoring doesn’t currently work for so many people. It’s a “know issue” according to Wyze if you call them. Funny how they quickly report when AWS impacts their services but NOT when their own software doesn’t work.
    Wyze does provide a partial credit for equipment that doesn’t work. If you ordered equipment across several orders they seem to only be willing to credit the first order. This makes no sense, at least to me. I loved Wyze. But if you go into home security you need to have a reliable product. When you mess up, you need to communicate. If you can’t fix it, you need to make it right. Three strikes and you’re out [of this house].

    Around here, almost all utilities come in on the sides of the house; including electricity, gas, telephone ( if you have it ) and cable/internet. All are accessible from the outside, including either disconnects, or in the case of internet, just cut the cable on the outside. Even the electricity can be disconnected simply by opening the junction box and flipping the switch.
    And nearly every house in the neighborhood is constructed the same way. The only safe internet service would be if one uses some sort of my-fi from a wireless carrier, with a battery backup inside.

Police will not show up. Unfortunately you cannot change that to a security question you choose, so I if the person who trips your alarm knows your phone they ate in:(

    I'm not here to plug another system but Ring's servers are a disaster, at let where I am at. Their 'software update' late Summer 2021 has rendered my Doorbell and other cameras useless. They are not connecting when trying to access live viewing and notifications are coming 5 minutes late or more. Working with customer support I all get is please disconnect and reconnect it and try moving it closer to router or extenders. I have done all of this, even before I called, and nothing worked. All systems have their issues but something should not be down or have issues more than six months. I would stay it could just be me but when I know many individuals within the area running into the same issues there is something wrong with that platform currently. Just be cautious of Ring if you are reading this around when I posted it. This may not be affecting their home security system but I would guess it would be.

    I don't think the people behind the Wyze security system put too much thought into their system seeing as it's totally reliant on your home internet and the hub battery is only good for roughly 8 hours. The Wyze system also looks like a generic bare bones alarm system that one might get a discount store. I guess that is why their security system bundle only cost $60 instead of $200 -$400 like most DIY systems cost. I do however think the Wyze system is good choice for an apartment, but not for an actual house. Most people would agree that when it comes to protecting you home, you can't afford to have a system that is lacking key features like 24/48 hour battery life and cellular backup plus the peace of mind that you are getting service from a reputable company like Ring, SimpliSafe or ADT.

    I would not trust Wyze to secure anything in my house. I have their Wyze Cam v3 that has some security system settings enabled by default. I did not know this. Their system started malfunctioning and sending alerts to Wyze. They sent me a text message asking if we were ok. The problem is if you do not hear the text message alert then they send the police to your house. I had just sat down in the restroom when the sheriff's department was literally busting down my front door by the time I got to the front door. The police told me our alarm was set off. My response was we do not have an alarm! Well, we did come to find out. Thanks, Wyze! Read the terms of the agreement closely with companies... esp Wyze! Wyze refused to stop sending the police to our house because of false alerts. I was told to contact their corporate office to make arrangements. I told them fine send the police to our address all you want as I was not spending one more second on this issue THEY created. I changed my address to their corporate office address. The false alerts and police visits stopped. I got charged something like $120 for the false alert visit from the cops and my apartment management wants us to pay an alarm deposit now. We don't have an alarm system! Wyze you going to pick up these fees?? Nope! I found some settings to turn off that I think would stop this "alarm" system but I do not trust the camera/alarm. Wyze I have purchased my first and last product from you. Enjoy the $20 bucks you made off of me from the sale of the Wyze Cam v3. That is the last penny you will get from me! The camera now sets in a drawer unplugged. I replaced it with an Imou 2k camera that does not send the police to my house. It also works wonderfully with Blue Iris and does not require cloud payments every month.
