“Shallow people lead shallow lives. Where not shallow, where malt mates”
This man is a poet.
Where are the shallow people who were hiding? Wherever they are we're all just malt mates. In other words: where does not equal we're.
MCW whatever I’m drunk 😂
Probably the greatest thing he has ever said....
A poet might opt to say * we're *
Me and a pal dropped in on Bladnoch in a motor home out of season. Had the pleasure of meeting the then owner, Raymond Armstrong (whizzing around the site on a John Deere tractor in a similar fashion to Mr Rusty of Magic Roundabout fame). He didn't know us from Adam (we could have been robbers!), but gave us the keys to his office for showering purposes, pitched us next to a cask warehouse with electric hook up, pointed out a good place to eat and invited us in for a dram later that evening. Suffice to say, a "Bladnoch Connection" was made, a fondness and interest that won't leave despite the quality of the few whiskies I have tried being a bit unremarkable - a disappointment exacerbated by my wanting them to be really good because of the quality of my experience with the distillery and people. He even had a series of ridiculously priced Bladnoch Forum bottlings from other distilleries (Port Ellen £35) which showed that it wasn't all about the money. Genuine whisky gentleman. Good to see Bladnoch on the rise even if he's not at the helm he did his bit to ensure it's not a lost distillery. It's a bit early but I raise a glass to a genuine whisky man. Slanjeevaurus 🐢
. . . the golden years !
Hi Ralfy! This week is my 10yrs of watching you. I sent in the first malt mention and wrote the Ralfy limerick. Here's to at least 10 more years to your Whisky reviews, I learned a huge amount from you!You are hands down the best in the business and second place isn't even close!Slainte James Wheeler
Bladnoch is going to be a star in 10 to 15 years. We are all going to find out why some of the best distillers left their top line jobs to work at Bladnoch. The new Bruichladdich, but in my opinion Bladnoch will be the distillery that actually change industry
Thank you so much, Eric. We wouldn't be where we are without the support of our loyal fans. Cheers to the new era of Bladnoch Distillery.
I thoroughly enjoy the 200 year anniversary 10 yo… just bought a second bottle here in Milano Italy 🇮🇹 thanks 🙏 ciao 👋 SF
Hi ralfy
I was going to tell you that bladnoch 10 year old is not very good whiskey, but I'm down to the shoulder on this bottle, and I poured a glass and put some water into the glass and was dreading it, after about 40 minutes in the glass it turned from an ugly duckling to a really good dram, and now I pick up a splendid whiskey, and it is just as you describe it, it's now a really good whiskey, I get lemon marangne pie and lime juice, it's really good stuff, what a difference time does with this expression, cheers brother 👍!!!
got mine and went through this again as i nosed and tasted with you. ralfy, you nail it. i love lowland scotch. auchentoshan needs to rethink themselves big time. the three wood is all wood. bladnoch 10 oak stands with the great 10 year olds - peated and non. thanks for the heads up. thank you thank you thank you
Thanks for this review, dear Ralfy. It has been a while since I have seen you this enthusiastic about a malt. Great to have you and your whisky enthusiasm! Will definitely look out for this one 🤗🥰
I've visited the Bladnoch distillery ( I too was given the full tour), and was told by the workers that the 'D' was silent. Their 16yr old malt is excellent, and they are one of the few that used to produce malt with the fats in.
Hi Ralfy. "Baked custard, egg custard, St Clement's Cake" - what wonderfully British (and accurate!) tasting notes! I thought the 10yo was a cracking whisky and might buy another bottle before it disappears completely. One last thing: Thank you for all the videos. I've been watching for years and have learnt a lot. You were a big inspiration for me to get into whisky vlogging myself. Slainte!
I’m pleased you appreciate his calm warm style, it works very well on your channel too, that’s why you two are my go to whisky legends
Ralfy
After visiting Scotland in May 2022 we decided to source a bottle from each of the whisky regions, the Lowlands region was one area we didn’t visit, but wanted to focus on a whisky non chill filtered and no color additive
Finally sourced this Bladnoch this month in the States via mail order 2000 miles away to add to our scotch selection. First taste yesterday with friends was all positive, thanks for direction
just brought this today after watching your review lucky my local liquor store stocks this. creamy coconut, melon and peach, loads of lemon and lime and little dose of almonds, glad you reviewed this especially at this time were summer is starting here in Australia this will be a regular addition to my summer time malts, good job bladnoch
Cheers Simon 🥃
I didn’t think I would ever find a bottle, and I didn’t. My wife found a single bottle of the 10 on a shelf in a liquor store and picked it up for me. Looking forward to trying it.
Never had Bladnoch in my view, until last week. What a dram. This is real awesome cerealcandy, nutty and... a lychee finish. Never had that kinda taste in a single malt. Thx for the recommandation.
On special for $A80 in Australia. Well, Victoria ,anyway. A great time to stock up. Thanks, Ralfy.
So..after a while of wanting to try this one, I finally went for it after this video.. certainly worth it. Really aligns to my palate currently. Beautiful mouth feel and honey, vanilla, coconut running through the delivery. Lovely, strong finish and one I will get to know better in the coming weeks.
A great suggestion to have a bottle of Auchentoshan American Oak to compare it with. The only problem I have with this is that you then have a bottle of Authentoshan American Oak to get rid of somehow.
I have just discovered the channel and I feel extremely lucky. It let me get familiar with the English vocabulary concerning whisky and let me expand my consciousness about the Scottish whiskeys I am tasting these days of quarantine. I have just purchased this lowland's gift and after watching this video I can not wait to taste it. Greetings from Barcelona. And please, keep on doing such a greats and useful videos.
I've had a bottle on my shelf for several years and opened it at the weekend. Only had one dram so far and this is an absolutely barnstormer of a whisky from my first impression. Of course I bought it after having seen your review all those years ago.
I love this whisky and i also get traditional British pudding notes, including peaches and cream!..It’s delicious!
Strong recommendation from Ralfy so there is one bottle of Bladnoch 10 coming from Germany to this cold and overly regulated country.
Just came across this bottle, having never had Bladnoch before but was intrigued by the Bourbon element, I picked it up. Your review is spot on. Wonderful tasting notes. Very happy I took a chance on this bottle.
So I brought this to a bottle share and it was such a surprise . So much complexity for a 10yr and absolutely delicious. I got fresh fruit and banana on the nose but on the palate it opens up nicely with just 3-4 drops of water. It’s a real bargain here in Florida so I ordered 2 more at $60 each. Always exciting to discover new affordable whisky that for whatever reason has gone un-noticed!!!
Only had a couple Signatory Bladnoch's @ 12 & 13yo years ago, a very nice spearmint note. I've seen these new core range showing up, glad to hear they're worth a go.
Ralfy, some of the SMWS bootlings of Bladnoch are sensational! They are older. 27yo. I have been very impressed with the Adela 15yo and 17yo Calif Red Wine finished bottlings. Very impressive.
I bought this bottle but have not yet opened it , after watching your review am now thinking it's time, your comments agree with my decision to purchase this bottle, 1st, over their 15 and 17 year old. So many seem to gravitate to an older expression assuming it will be "better" or have more "flavour". But I feel that a 10 year or maybe even younger expression can show a distilleries core and potential.
As well I bought the SAMSARA release, being it's the same ABV as the 10 yr and said to be made up of whiskies that are a minimum or 8 years old and well as older, rarer whiskies. This is to see if they actually made an expression just for the sake of making something they could call different, or are they using knowledge and skill to provide a different experience.
Picked up the Bladnoch 10 in the US at a very reasonable price. Wonderful recommendation. Unique and well made. Definitely creamy. The dominant note I pick up is chocolate chip cookie. I will savor this bottle. Thank you Ralfy.
I had a bottle of the cask strength version of this 10yo Bladnoch (it was an Aussie whisky club exclusive), and it was absolutely brilliant!
You bastard! lol
Ah, the Queen of the Lowlands roars back! 😍
Really love this stuff. This and Springbank are my favorite 10 years. Wonderful stuff. Hope you found a bottle for yourself as it’s largely gone from the market now.
I bought a bottle after hearing you mentioned it in your Bladnoch 11 year old review. Tasted it and went back to store for a second bottle. Then I watched this review. I know I sought of did things backwards but it’s all ok in the end. I thoroughly enjoyed my first experiences with this & will take my time savoring & sharing with friends and family.
One of my favorite bang for buck sippers. So, I’m glad I bought a few bottles when available for the stash. Cheers from New Mexico!
This is a good one...I get a big note of sweet butter.... thanks Ralfy
Caramel smoked meat!
Dear Ralfy, I finally opened up a bottle I got last year and I must say it is every bit as good as you suggest. Really fascinating and perfect with my pipe tobacco ‘Hal o the wind’ from Perth’s Robert Rattrays. It really tastes like a quintessential British Pudding (both sweet and savoury) . Many thanks and kindest regards, S.
The Bladnoch 10 sounds like a incredible dram that I hope find somewhere in my state. Almost time to start building a fire in the bothy when you can see your breath. Cheers Ralfy!
Just picked this up today. Amazing stuff! Love your channel and love your passion!
To be completely fair to them, occasional malt drinkers who are afraid of flavor are quite often occasional drinkers of liquor in general and not accustomed to it. As such, they are looking for a “smooth” experience that won’t burn them the way that cheap liquor they’ve experienced has. So a flat malt will impress them as long as it doesn’t come off as hot or bitter typically. They’re uninformed, so they reach for whatever is at the top of their price range that looks impressive in the bottle and that they’ve heard of. Not their fault, they simply don’t know any better.
Now I have decided to get this. It's available locally. I wasn't planning on another whisky, as I'm moving to France in a few months, but... Just one more...
Tried this a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious and deep this is. Swore that day it was on my ever expanding "to buy" list.
So pleased you enjoyed it!
Bladnoch are at the Dumfries Whisky Festival on Saturday so an early chance for me to try this one ......
Hope you enjoy!
Hi Ralfy
I have been drinking this after your review, and I totally agree with you on this expression, however let me tell you, it is going to be discontinued, so I will be buying another bottle as soon as I can, I know where another bottle is, it's an amazing experience for this young whiskey, cheers Sir and keep the videos coming !!!
I just picked up a bottle a couple of weeks ago on recommendation of liquor store salesman...was skeptical. Brought it home, tasted it and now love it. Going to be a regular member of my scotch cabinet.
Big Thx for recommending this Whisky. Really appreciate your opinions, knowledge and insights you´re sharing with us. Keep it coming.
Taking a trip to Scotland with a couple of mate, looking forward to picking up few bottles. Planning to visit Glendronach!!! Absolutely love the videos ralfy keep them coming wise master. Cheers
. . . happy to share the malt-moments !
Just ordered a bottle (along with a nice blended from Compass Box, to prevent me becoming a malt snob ;)
This has a slight funky cheese note, eggnog, flan, tootsie roll, nutella hazelnut spread. Then comes the perfume notes of vanilla, hint of spicy oak, and a slight dustiness. Reminds me of bruichladdich local barley, because of that cheesy funk. Maybe more of a cream cheese, not so much cheddar cheese I get on the laddie.
Apparently there were 3 vattings of Bladnoch 10, one for 2018 which you have and 1 for 2019 and 2020. I've had the 2020 and ive managed to score a 2018 as well (Australian market got both 2018 & 2020 (US got 2019). It was noticeable based on colour difference of the box (2020 had a gold B for Bladnoch and no Ian Macmillan mentioned on the side). So will be interesting to compare to the 2018 as I loved the 2020 as there are apparently noticeable batch variations
So glad I bought this after your review. Have to say in retrospect, best 10 yr old I’ve ever had period. And it’s better than many 12 yr olds I’ve had as well. A true gem. This would have won a whisky of the year award either by Ralph or the Oswas if it only had been produced longer.
Drinking the Bladnoch Samsara while watching this, delicious, will have to find this one.
man, actually I don't like whisk(e)ys, I don't see things you do. I find the taste too overwhelming and most of the time unpleasant. But I love the way you communicate things, the pleaseant atmosphere you create, your opinions, probably your new year special besides the fireplace I like the most. it makes me calm after the exhausting day in the work, it clears my mind and puts me back to the cool state. yeah and while watching I also pour myself a dram of Monkey Shoulder what became an only time when I can really enjoy it. thank you ralfy. I want your book at home! cheers malt mate :)
Just bought a second bottle of this (it's getting rare already) to put away. Amazing single malt, gets better as you get down the bottle. Cheers for the review Ralfy, once again you have me spending my cash haha. Take care mate.
I just found a store where I can pick it up for $50! I’m buying two. Also an Edradour 10 for $70. Overpriced but I hadn’t seen it before.
On your 90 point integrity malt scar recommendation - I have a bottle winging it's way to me from my favourite New Zealand based whisky establishment. (Whisky Galore - Christchurch New Zealand FYI)
Argh !! Spell check gone mad !! (90 point integrity malt SCORE) Wish I could turn off the spell check headache...... Time for a Bladnoch 10yo
@@keyfinder257 There are a lot of snobs on whiskybase though. If you're interested just give it a go.
I think I expierenced a similar thing as you with the Glenlivet 15. I bought a 10cl sample of Glenrothes Robur Reserve, just to explore and it was quite cheap as a sideorder, 3 € or so. First dram impressed me with a camomile tea note, 2nd dram was just forgetable and the 3rd dram has such a bitter burnt caramel note, that is was unpleasant. However I could spot the interessting green and savory notes unterneath it. It is sad, when such delicate spirit is treated not so good, as it deserves.
Still had my UA-cam at 0,75x speed. And was like, it sounds like Ralfy had a little bit too much. Luckily I found out, and changed it in time. A review great as always! Have to get out to take a look at this Bladnoch.
Just found this for $50 in my local store sitting unloved haha. Can’t wait to try it after hearing this review.
Hadn’t seen the Steampunker for awhile. 😏 Quite a review for a 10 yo whisky. I wonder if some of the sweetness comes from the the specific variety of barley or more the bourbon cask? Glad to see another Lowland malt.
. . . from the cask.
Thanks👍
Looks cold in that cellar Ralfy, maybe get a small fire going. Only first heard of Bladnoch 2 days ago, yesterday I watched your video about 3 whiskys for 2021 and saw it again, today watching the review, and tomorrow ordering a bottle! Im no expert but I know what I like and I happen to really like Auchentoshan. Hard to tell but sounds like your dissing it.
More Lowland whisky! Hurray!!
8 bottles on it’s way, need to stock up!
This would have been distilled by previous owner Raymond Armstrong so no surprise it's very good. Let's hope when the spirit distilled by the new owners is bottled it'll also be very good.
Shame Raymond didn't stick around
@@linoleumbonypart385 My understanding is that Raymond didn't want to sell but his brother did.
Ralfy: I've only had access to Auchentoshan American Oak, Bladnoch is not around here. I agree Auchentoshan American Oak could be so much better without chill filtration, caramel and most important more time in the barrel. I actually like it better than the 12 year old. Something must be wrong with me. My palate must have change because Auchentoshan was my bridge from bourbon to single malt and I enjoy it less. I think Suntory is neglecting Auchentoshan, I consider it a jewel of Glasgow and Scotland. It deserves better.
I will be New York for Christmas and will look for Bladnoch there. Bladnoch has always been intriguing to me. I like the lowland style, I believe there is direct descent from the Scottish Lowland and Borders to American Distilling, by way of Ireland particularly N. Ireland. I always am on the lookout for a good Lowlander. The latter comment will draw some negativity but it is my opinion.
I personally was woefully disappointed with the Auchentoshan American Oak. It sold as a more expensive bottle over here in my country, which for some reason was drastically reduced in price across the board. Price was halved and has remain halved for more than a year now. I bought a bottle at the low price, and found it very unfinished, and underwhelming. Others seem to like it, but that's personal taste. I don't like it that much.
@@Toxxyc Always less than $40 in my area. Never more. Auchentoshan is a distillery whose owners sell it short. Ralfy is right there are talented distillers there but their corporate masters won't get out of their way. I would love to taste their newmake spirit. The brand has always held a soft spot because it was my gateway to single malt. I hate it when they market it as a mixer on their website. I would love to visit there and drive the Great Western Road to and through the Highlands.
. . . your right !
@@thewhiskybothy Jim Beam Black Label used to carry an eight year age statement, not after Suntory took over.
@@kaiserhog It's less than half that in South Africa now. $19,49 for a bottle, and it's been that low for a while. Yes, our spirits are a bit cheaper anyway, but that's a very, very low price. It's half the price of Glenfiddich 12 YO over here.
After watching your vids I wang to start tasting whisky. There’s a few of the good ones you mention local to me here in hirwaun. Curious to find out how you taste all these flavours and smells.
This sounds so good.
Talking of Tegriddy
how can this be a thing...

This will be my next malt
that malt mention sounds like mine that i given you while back ralfy, ok at least the word "majestraits" might have been mine and uniquely the first ,,just sayin as you say
thank you for the hearted comments ralfy, nice to see you still do look at them from time to time even though you are busy and get many,, its been a while i have not looked at your content but every now and then when i have a dram of a newly purchased bottle i like to enjoy the sips watching you :)
I’m going to get this. I should have listened to the staff to get this over auchentoshan. That one was disappointing.
Update, this is one of the most delicious whiskies I have had! Yummy yummy stuff!
Can almost see Ralfys breath....must be chilly in Bothy!🥶

. . . £20 . worth it !
That's quite a lovely malt!
I'd love to see this in the US near me. Sounds right up my alley!
Bladnoch is stocked in several states in the US! Please visit www.bladnoch.com to find a store nearest to you!
Unfortunately not near me (NY). Maybe some day!
What do you mean when you tell siege ( I know that it must be other word :D ) 11:15. Sorry for my misunderstanding I am not native english speaker. Thank you for great work for whisky community.
We’re malt mates!!!
this stuff costs an arm and a leg for a 10yo single malt.
Just tried this whisky) Reminds me Laddie 10 by creamy-buttery theme)
Ralfy you have stated that a great companion of whisky is a good ale. What would you recommend to pair with Laphroaig 10 year or Laphroaig Quarter Cask?
. . . hoppy IPA !
Review fits my experience when I opened the bottle the first time. Great stuff with nice reminiscents to the Flora & Fauna style. But after three months in the open bottle something got lost. Maybe it's just me. I am more worried about the upcoming new Bladnochs because I've read they forced fermentation time down to the minimum of 48 hours. I'd also not refer to this whisky as a typical Lowland. It is no triple-distilled and I am rather sure that this does more to the whisky then the geographical region it grew and matured. Anyway, emotional Ralfy, I feel with you.
Hi Ernst, I can assure you that you haven't been correctly informed. Our fermentation times continue to be in excess of 80 hours. You would be welcome to visit and see for yourself, we are proud that after rebuilding the distillery, we have not only an incredible new stillhouse, built by Forsythsof Rothes, we have maintained the hand made traditions of Bladnoch. No buttons or computers to be found. As for triple distillation, we are in the majority with double distilled Lowlands malts, the character of our region isn't any longer defined by triple distillation.
@@bladnochdistillery1619 Thanks. Didn't expect an official answer to my private little naggings. I will contact the local author about his fault. And of course, Bladnoch is the first station in my virtual journey. But right now, I don't think I will ever make it to dreamland. ;-)

Thanks Ralfy. How do you compare Bladnoch 10 to Arran 10 and Springbank 10..? Down here in the South Pacific penal colony the Arran is the least expensive ($80) and the Springbank is the most expensive ($110). The Bladnoch splits the middle ($95). What about the dominant sweat gym sock, sour arrival...thats the dominant note that I get and can only change it by pairing with other foods. Neat...on a clean palate its a sour and bitter whiskey with very little age.
The fact that Clive drinks trash spirits has to infuriate you. 😁
. . . I keep the good stuff for myself !
Ralfy did you see my question below???
Ralfy excuse.. 😁
Come off your high horse, Ralfy. People are not dumb or shallow because they buy whiskies with caramel colour and/or chill filtration. They don't know better. And even if they knew, they would not be able to tell the difference. Even malt mates buy these whiskies on occasion because they like them.
🖕🏻
Don’t be mean folks, discussion without distention is not a malt democracy.
