Absolutely agree. They have a lot more character. We think Mrs Smith must have been a very special lady. Hope you are having a great weekend Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Wow, £75 is just about in my price range. Thank you for sharing her life and her beautiful home. It’s amazing that she was climbing up to her bed at over 100! What an amazing lady ❤
Thank you yes she must have been pretty agile as those ladders are pretty steep not easy at all. Yes £75 would just about suit us too mind you guess that was a tidy sum in those days. Hope you have a wonderful weekend Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Thank you so much yes we absolutely agree it's such a lovely place to visit you really get a feel what life in the cottage was like. Hope you have a great week. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
I grew up with an outdoor toilet. I remember the wind blowing snow around my ankles in the night, wearing just nightclothes and slippers. Different world back then. My nan’s house was posh, it had an indoor toilet! But she didn’t have a washing machine, she washed everything by hand, and had a huge mangle to wring the water. Her house looked a lot like this, so it was so lovely watching this, taking me back to being a small child. Thank you for sharing, I intend to visit some day 😊
Good morning thank you so much for sharing your memories with us. We love places like this because like you it brings back so many fond memories of the past. @chrisbentleywalkingandrambling I think that generation were hardy folk, the NHS didn't exist until she was 56, so there would be no trips to A&E , a doctor's visit would be costly. She would eat produce she grew, or neighbours gave her, a much better diet than today.I admire her tenacity, we need more like her today.
My 18th century stone cottage is rather larger than this house but many things tally. I know from old documents that it changed hands in the 1950s for £500 - far more affordable to a family on the average household income of the period than it would be today (£300 to £350K). As far as I am aware from former neighbours in the 1970s it still had an outside bog, no bathroom and no installed heating for hot water. Water was still heated on a range in the kitchen, because I used to know the plumber who installed the first plumbed-in hot water system as an apprentice.

Amazing. When I was a little boy of around 5yrs old I remember travelling with mum to see and old lady. . . . . Mrs Knight. . . 93yrs old and she was the same. . . A sitting room with coal fire, kitchen with a coal range and stairs to the one bedroom. No bathroom an outside privi, no fridge, just a big thick slab of marble which kept the food cool, no TV although she did have a radio and she sang a lot too. She had been a dancing instructor and was very slim. I have edited this as I have just looked through some things mum said I should keep as my sister would throw them out and I have her daughters death cert (I had no idea she had a daughter - she died when I was 3yrs) aged 53yrs from pneumonia and the next year her husband aged 83. I would have been 4yrs when he died in 1964 and have no recollection of him. I have some "tickets or passes" to various dances in which she would give demonstrations of popular dances of the era (dated 1912 to 1924). So interesting. (thanks mum) I have a photo of her in 1924 stood by the side of her MG or similar and a picture of another car she owned and one of her stood beside a small radial engined aeroplane . . . absolute tear away apparently. We visited once or twice a week sometimes more if she was ill or we had a Dr's appointment. Our Dr was 5mins from her little cottage. This video brought all that back. I can actually see it very vividly. . . quite a shock really. Thank you so much for that. ATB . . Howard
Thank you Howard that was so lovely to hear your memories of Mrs Knight. The cottage brought back a lot of memories for us too of our grandparents. They always had a welcome and never complained just getting on with their lives. Hope you have had a great day Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Good morning absolutely agree us too. It really does feel like she is still here and great you can sit down in a chair and look through her photos it just feels so cosy. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Thank you so much for watching and your comments. Yes is very cosy would be a dream if was still only £75 . Hope you have a wonderful week Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Good morning Dave and Dawn... what a charming video. Mrs Smiths cottage is a real time capsule. Goodness knows how she coped with those stairs in later life [ ladders really! ] The photos really brought it to life especially the one at the end in the garden. Would have loved to sit and have a cup of tea with her out of one of the pink teacups. Not sure the outside privvy would be much fun in winter... a wonderful video beautifully filmed guys .. sending you our very best wishes Neil and Ant 😊
Good morning guys yes this is such a charming little cottage. They invite you to sit down and browse the photo albums and absorb the atmosphere. It really does feel like she will pop back in at any time. How she got up and down the ladders at her age I don't know they are quite steep and coming down is tricky I didn't manage it but even Dave was in awe of her agility. It reminds us of times when people would pop in and out of each others houses for a natter and cup of tea. Hope you are both well we certainly have lost the sunshine for a while but fingers crossed for later in week. Take care Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Good morning 😊 what a lovely home it looks. Nice hearing about her life and seeing all the photos. 102 that is a brilliant age. Lovey that it was then the community that saved the house too. It’s a beautiful place.
Good morning Yasmin yes it's such a warm cosy cottage. Shame we have lost the spirit when friends and neighbours would just pop in for a chat and a cuppa. We are amazed she was able to climb the ladders at 102. Hope you have a great day Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Wow the ambience indoors at Mrs. Smith's Cottage in Navenby, Lincolnshire It's amazing, well-organized and luxurious. You can imagine in history that this Mrs Smiths Cottage was owned by a rich man in his day. 👍👍❤❤
Good morning Dave and Dawn! This was so lovely what a super charming storey of this sweet sweet lady and her life! And what a life she had! Climbing those ladders to her room must have been what kept her fit and all her visitors on a daily basis! Loved the section from her diary of her 100th birthday! Really enjoyed this guys! Very well put together and beautifully narrated! Have a lovely week Jill & Nick ❤
Good morning guys hope you are both well. Thank you for your lovely comments. It really is a fabulous place it feels like she has never left. It's so nice that they invite you to sit on the chairs and look through her photos. There are loads of snippets from her diary it shows a time where life was much more simpler but richer in many ways with friends and neighbours just popping in for a cuppa. The ladders are quite steep even Dave was impressed that she could get up and down at 102 amazing. Hope you both have a wonderful week. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
How absolutely wonderful is that place 😍 The grand buildings are great, but that humble Cottage tells a wonderful story of a lovely lady. Would love to visit that. 👍❤️

Hood morning yes it's a lovely place you are able to sit in the chairs and really make yourself at home. A bit of sun would be good, it's raining again here today 😆. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Mrs. Smiths had a long and full life. The house and the garden are beautiful, and I saw many things in it in my grandmother's house, who was born at the very beginning of the 20th century. The price of the house is interesting, it is hard to imagine for us today ☺️❤️
Good morning yes it really had the feeling of our grandparents houses which like Mrs Smiths was always open and full of friends and neighbours popping round. Guess the average wage at that time reflected the price of the cottage. Hope you have a great day Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Thank you so much yes the little cottages and houses have a great story to tell as well. Mrs Smith really does sound a great character. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Thank you Dave and Dawn for a lovely video , the cottage is very beautiful , also the lady who lived there seemed to have a very interesting life and she was liked by her community. Have a nice day, Jana.

An absolutely fascinating video. I admire someone who kept her independence even above the age of 100 years old. And I admire the spirit of independence which made her resist the council's attempts to update her home.
Thanks guys yes absolutely agree it's amazing what you can do with a little determination. It really is a fantastic place to visit. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️

Thank you for sharing. Reminds me of my Grandparents who where all born in the 1880s and the old people of my childhood. Anytime you visited there house they always had cake they had baked and kept in a tin to eat with a cup of tea.❤
Thank you hope you are well. Yes absolutely we remember that was how people were back then always a slice of cake and cup of tea when anyone called round. The cottage really feels as though it's still lived in and so nice you can sit in a chair and soak up the atmosphere. Hope you have a great week Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Thank you for sharing this video about a remarkable woman. What a gem she was and what a smile she had! Her home is modest but provided all that she needed. I chuckled at the box that read :Kleenex for men!" cheers from Canada

This looked so lovely to visit, its like Mrs Smith is still there. Its great that everything here is still as she left it, she lived to a good age at 102 🙂 Such a lovely house and gsrden. Wow sooo a house in 1922 cost only £75 ? Whoo, a bit different to the first house we bought ! But then it must have been a lot of money. That was so interesting. You do visit fabulous places guts, always a joy to watch ~ Anna
Good morning Anna. Yes this is a really lovely place it feels like a home rather than a museum. It's great you can sit in the chairs and look through the photos. Imagine climbing the ladders to bed at 102. She lived the type of life that no longer exists where its the simple things and people that matter rather than possessions and the latest gadgets. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️

Awh Mrs Smith sounds like she was a wonderful and much-loved lady. Loved looking around the cottage with you. Imagine paying £95 for a cottage like that! Wouldn't want to be doing those stairs at my age, let alone at 102, fair play to her. And that garden is so beautiful. Lovely video xx
Thank you Stacey hope you are all OK. I didn't do the ladders and even Dave said he was impressed that she could do them at 102. It's a shame that the days where you popped around the neighbours for a slice of cake and a cuppa have gone. The cottage has such a warm feeling about it and it was so good that they let you sit in the chairs and enjoy the atmosphere. Hope you have a great week Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
@inbetween-days I agree. I don't know my neighbours at all. It's quite sad isn't it. I'd love to be in a proper little community. But saying that, I wouldn't want people calling over randomly either haha. My great gran used to be like that though, there was always someone in her house!

(thanks mum)
I have a photo of her in 1924 stood by the side of her MG or similar and a picture of another car she owned and one of her stood beside a small radial engined aeroplane . . . absolute tear away apparently.
Bellissima condivisione e splendida esterno e interno 🌹🏵️

Good morning hope you are well. Thank you so much for your support and kind comments Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Very moving. The story of a meaningful life. It reminds us of our grandmothers. 🧡🧡🧡
Good morning absolutely agree us too. It really does feel like she is still here and great you can sit down in a chair and look through her photos it just feels so cosy. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
@@inbetween-days perhaps the sign that she had a humanly healthy life , no doubt 😉
Born in ‘97. Looks like a dream home to me. 🤗💕
A wonderful piece of history presented tastefully my dear friends 🇨🇦❤️👍🎉🥰🇬🇧
Thank you so much hope you are having a lovely day Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
Wow the ambience indoors at Mrs. Smith's Cottage in Navenby, Lincolnshire It's amazing, well-organized and luxurious. You can imagine in history that this Mrs Smiths Cottage was owned by a rich man in his day. 👍👍❤❤
Thank you so much. Its a lovely cosy cottage we really loved it. Hope you have a wonderful day. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️

How absolutely wonderful is that place 😍
The grand buildings are great, but that humble Cottage tells a wonderful story of a lovely lady. Would love to visit that. 👍❤️
Thank you so much yes we agree this is a lovely place it really feels like she is still there and will pop back any moment. She must have had a very strong character to get up the ladder at 102. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
I really love this woman her home and life style

Hi both, What a charming and beautifully preserved cottage! Mrs. Smith's Cottage is certainly worth a visit ! 🌟🕰️ Have a great week with fingers crossed for some rare good weather❤
It was a lot of money back then
Very interesting, something very different to the big houses.
Thank you so much Jana for your kind comments. Mrs Smith must have been a very tough and special lady. Hope you have had a great day Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️

@@inbetween-days We are good thanks. 👍

Thank you for sharing this video about a remarkable woman. What a gem she was and what a smile she had! Her home is modest but provided all that she needed. I chuckled at the box that read :Kleenex for men!" cheers from Canada
Thank you for your support and comments. Yes the kleenex were a bit bigger and stronger than the standard ones. She seems such a wonderful lady and must have been quite a character. Hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️

Good morning thank you for your kind comments and support Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️
