    I thought I'd be against the lack of narration, but honestly I prefer it with just the game sounds. Really relaxing, great for my studying. Man, I love SimCity3000 after all this time. That fire dispatch sound effect is seared into my brain.. in a good way lol.

      What I experience when I play Unlimited is the lack of bespoke sounds. They sometimes do work (Birds chirping, Traffic Noises, Port Noises, Gun Shots in criminal Areas etc.) but thats just by coincidence. With the OG SC3000 it always worked, I wonder if someone experiences the same

    The weirdest luck with disasters... meteor storm that hits nothing but two roads, whirlpools that suck up a few boats and not much more (well a marina or so), and a tornado that yanks you over in the middle of planting a road... at which you just delete the extra road, move back to where you were, and resume zoning like nothing happened. A whirlpool at the edge of the map, and then a fire in the industrial core and a tornado right through residential zoning. By this point I'd be trying to stamp out fires and reconnect two halves of a city after an earthquake, or have had nothing at all.
    Although the ending is pretty much textbook for finishing a game! :D

    Something I think this game did better than any other city builder i've seen is the ordinances. How they're presented and how the arguments are made for or against the ordinances. It really makes the city feel like a living thing.
    Much more than the damn twitter proxy in Skylines, I'll tell ya that.

    This game is so much better than Simicty 2013 They should have kept the format for it when they made the last one. Infact, 2013 is my least favorite version of Simicty.

      The desktop PC is falling out of use, I think. Hence all those games. The PC itself isn't needed to gain access to the internet anymore and stuff. The mobile changed everything at the beginning of the 2010s.

    Silly question: How can I build highways?

    • @BenColc
      @BenColc  Місяць тому +2

      On the right menu, click the Build Transportation button and Highway is the second one from the top. Also, you have to be past a certain year - it's like 1940 or something - for highways to be available.

    • @angrymonkeynoises
      @angrymonkeynoises Місяць тому

      Yeah... and how can I conect them with the normal roads?

    • @BenColc
      @BenColc  Місяць тому +1

      @@angrymonkeynoises Left click and hold down on the build Highway button then switch the option to OnRamp. Move your mouse to an open tile adjacent to both your regular road and the highway. When the icon turns blue you can build the OnRamp. You need at least 3 tiles of clearance along the highway. The tool is also kind of buggy. You may have to go back to the menu and select it again.

    One of the best city builders ever made, but apparently optimized for a theoretical Star Trek supercomputer. Somehow, this game chugs harder than Skylines on my modern rig.

    • @nervaaugustus7089

      It's a product of passing time. Newer computers aren't capable of running SimCity 3000's old code as efficiently as old ones. Many of the legacy functions and systems that this game relies on are either missing or poorly emulated in newer OSes and chipsets. This game had no problems running well on a computer that was top-of-the-line on the year of its release, aside from the persistent memory leak issue that can cause crashes that is mentioned in the video description.

  • @CommissarChaotic
    @CommissarChaotic 4 місяці тому +1

    Man I wish I knew which one it was but I know I played _a_ SimCity on my uncle's computer years ago... From an evolution of video, it seems that it is either at least this SimCity or earlier since the next SimCity after this looks too modern while I definitely remember more older graphics... I do feel a slight nostalgia at the UI, though, so it might be this one, and the road building sounds too...

    If only I could get the game to slow down on my modern gaming laptop. I remember reading about something about the game's running speed being directly tied to something about your PC's performance specs.....

    • @nervaaugustus7089
      @nervaaugustus7089 16 днів тому +1

      This game doesn't run in real-time. How fast the game runs is tied to the clock speed of your CPU. The faster it is, the faster the game runs. Basically, the game expects to be run on a slower computer of its time, and thus it times all of its events to the clock speed of the CPU thinking that it would be fine for timing purposes. Of course, as technologies advance, CPUs get faster, and offload more of their processing load to subprocessing units like the GPU, which means the amount of real time between things happening in game gets shorter and shorter.
      Put another way, SimCity 3000 doesn't see things in 'hours' or 'minutes' or 'seconds'. It sees things in 'CPU clock ticks' which represent shorter and shorter lengths of time as CPUs get faster.

      I made mine as dense as possible along one highway divided edge of the map and spiced them up with recycle plants and incinerators and the airport in one corner. Always had well over 10,000 acres of parks in my cities but I’m sure I never ever put even 1 small park on the industrial side of the highway.

      @@thisisgoodnews8043well, actually if the neighbourhood is good in general (especially the land value), those plants with chimneys don't appear. Cleaner enterprises do. The overall picture isn't that dreary then.
      Skyscrapers don't appear in different zones either if the land value is low.

      @@user-ui7iy4vk1e Oh yeah I forgot I cheated lots too with that choose your own buildings code. I always put a bunch of those 12 tile red high tech buildings and I think there were some other 4 and 9 space kind of labs. And there were even 1 space high tech research buildings if I remember correct, and would put those beside the bus and sub stops. I don’t think I ever actually did one organic city without cheating, always wanted to decide the spot for every single building. There were lots of other things on the building list that actually should have been available without cheating imo like those pink 1 space parks with the flowers and fountain and the 1 space tennis courts, swimming pool and grass etc.
