Thulani Mguda: How I Became An Entrepreneur Despite Being A High School Dropout

Thulani Mguda is the co-owner of Orgasmic Gawulo, a fine-dining restaurant in the heart of Gugulethu. Along with his business partner Tumi Mayenge, he is on a mission to change the perception of food in the township by infusing the Kasi food experience with fine dining elements.
Orgasmic Gawulo’s vision is to put money back into their community by introducing the fine dining element that community members normally go to the Cape Town CBD for. Thulani is passionate about creating a positive impact in his neighbourhood, and providing young people with the knowledge that there are other options in life than crime, despite the difficult circumstances they come from. Landing up in prison forced Thulanli to relook his own life and what he wants from it. Leaving a life of crime and uncertainty behind, he has managed to build a strategy around his challenges that has helped him to succeed.
Thulani spoke to our Heavy Chef Raw community at Cape Town Startup Week about his journey from high school dropout to co-owning and running a pioneering establishment in his community.
