We are kindred spirits!!! I have every sewing notion known to mankind! I can usually find what I am looking for, it's just that some things take a little longer to find! Great information and inspiration to get organized. I think finishing UFO's is a good idea. It's good experience/practice for me and I doubt anyone else wants to finish it. I feel accomplished when I get it done and then it's ready to be donated or given away not a pile of wasted scraps. To me it seems to be all about eliminating waste. I grew up poor so learned to make do and get creative with what little I did have. I was probably 12 years old when I made a skirt from an old pair of jeans. That was in 1964 and I think an innovative idea at the time. At least I came up with the idea on my own, no internet to glean inspiration from. I have spent most of my life wanting a house big enough for my sewing/crafting obsession so finally after retiring I have just what I want. Now that I am retired it's like my real life has just begun and I can enjoy sewing to my hearts content. No downsizing for me, at least not yet! Clearing surfaces is fantastic! My Mother used to heap crap on her kitchen counters ( and any other flat surface)until you could no longer find them. I can't stand anything on mine.Same for sewing room. It doesn't take much build up before I have to clean off my sewing table.
Deb I admire you. I started by cleaning out my garages. Sorting out causes piles of stuff all over. You've given me lots of great ideas. Good Luck with your move.
Wow, an amazing session! You and I are so very alike! I’m trying very hard to get on top of my clutter. The tape measures got me. I actually can’t get to my sewing machine and serger right now. Learning to let go. I loved your story about the book too. It is so comforting to know we’re not alone. I’m motivated to tackle a chunk or two this w/e. I will reward myself with sewing an advent calendar project or get started at least. Thank you, thank you, thank you.❤
A great read is Swedish Death Cleaning. I have a note in my sewing room with a sewing/ quilting friend’s contact info, so my family can ask them about what is what and where to donate.
It takes a certain kind of courage to realize it’s time to move on to a new phase of life and to do the “hard”things it takes to get there. You have inspired me to be more intentional about this in my life.
It did not happen overnight. I tormented myself with the thought for months, probably years but I do think I have now taken the step and feel light hearted and excited about it.

Gosh Nancy my garage is huge I would be so overwhelmed. They say start small. I progressed to my workroom.
I went through this when we downsized 10 wears ago, time to do it again for many of the reasons stated . Wishing all success
Thank you. Surprisingly I am enjoying it.
You have inspired me to do the same! Thank you

You can do it! I so understand.

Went through my threads and did a pop test. Was bummed how many snapped. But it did help downsize
