- I got this two bay NAS from TerraMaster. It is the F2-423, but as we see in this video,, it will run more than just the NAS software.

For 3$ a month, you get an extra weekly "What's UP" update video. Just for my Patrons. The Support I resave on patreon is all used on stuff to make interesting videos on UA-cam.
My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.
if you are running other Proxmox hosts, you could consider to also install proxmox backup server (PBS) it can be installed on a PVE Hosts, I have a setup with a PVE host at Hetzner with local backup to some HDD's (local at Hetzner) using PBS, and then I sync the backup to my home (to my local PBS running on a HP micro server) here in DK.
Lots of possibilities :-)
11:19- I really do wish they would say how much data is on each selected disk prior to installation... I usually remove all drives except for the one I want to install Proxmox onto for this reason.
Hi tractorman 77
Thank You very much! glad you liked the video :-)
Thank you for watching! :-)
The tinyvisor!
Hi matr1x
Thank You very much! glad you liked the video :-)

Is not easy to inject 3d party drivers? Do you know ESXi Customizer? I've used this for injecting Broadcom and Realtek network adapter divers for my chinese Xeon host.
I know about it,, but never tried.
Only 4 GB memory - I would run some Linux bare-metal, to have some free memory for caching. Thanks for trying it out!
Hi jay kastner

The ventoy is currently at version 1.80 and you can just put in your USB and do an upgrade to the latest version. and keep all your ISO files.
Did you not try truenas scale instead of proxmox?
I tried freeNAS,, years back.
@@MyPlayHouse It has all changed now with FreeNAS scale and so much easier to work with that proxmox because I am always googling have to fix the issues with proxmox e.g. IOdrive duo, GPU passthrough e.t.c.
Proxmox just become a right pain in the ass to work with for what I wanted to do with it, so "IT A NO FROM ME!"
@17:05 install Clover boot loader and it can provide a GUI multiboot loader that can remember the previously booted OS, etc. It can boot anything MBR or UEFI.

I am looking for a capable NAS to store data and run a hypervisor, the RAM is adequate its the processor that puts me off this device. Looking at a True NAS build just need the right components; case, motherboard etc. Good video. Thanks.
Case: any old full ATX trash from early-mid 2000s at the nearest trash pile if you are in the golden billion. Mobo: any DDR4 ITX/mATX CPU: any 4 cores i3/i5 class with iGPU. Then grease all that rubbish with good and quiet power supply and any silent enough 120mm fans, if noisy - add thick 50-60 Ohms resistors which doubles down the speed. /// I almost did all this, but the cpu has only 2 cores, and power supply is old stylish with noisy 80mm fan, but I resistored it too. :))).
Hi johnnymh1111

how dare you to now show us the inside of that NAS :P
ooohhh its in another video
Yes,, one of the previous videos :-)
i love proxmox and nice video👍
I am really happy that it just installed,, no hassle!!
Can this be used as a media server ?
I am sure it could,,, has a okay CPU and a HDMI port..
In reality, great results with running Proxmox on TerraMaster! 👍
And as always, Windows thinks he owns device.. 😂
Try to install GRUB bootloader on TerraMaster as an next experiment. 😉
Excellent video, as always! 👍
Hi Arturs Mihelsons
Thank You very much! glad you liked the video :-)
Thank you for watching! :-)
Errr I can't understand what you are trying to squeeze from this silver lemon, but as a type of sport of "install something on something" this is very educating. %-)))) I dunno how many OSes it could run, cuz I tried Vmware and Vbox with Ubuntu 22.04 host on my tiny 2 cores skylake Pentium/16Gigs dual channel. And results were unfortunate for running 2 GUI OSes. 😕
I hope this will pop up in a later video,, and it might make a little more sense :-)
That NAS probably uses Realtek NICs, ESXi doesnt support them anymore, unless you sideload the drivers.
No it uses some Intel 2,5Gbit i225 something something,, :-)
@@MyPlayHouse This is a to new chipset for ESXI 6.7 or 7.0 so you can try ESXI 8 for that. Maybe that new build support this network card.
Hi. nice review! Can you test Qbittorent? real speed download/upload?
Thank You,, No I cant do that.. :-/ NAS is in Portugal..
super perfekt
Thank you..
add ram, run nvme drives in raid0 and act as cache layer for spinning rust - you could host 14tb netfs - it would be nice to have 100tb of space to mirror everything open source plus have big indexes of your own pages but top 10k sites or something #use the index luke #yacy
I do not need 100Tb on this :-),, a couple of 10TB would be nice.
Dont forget esxi 6.7 is now end of life
Okay,, that was quick..
What’s that model of Keyboard you’re using there please?
Lenovo something,, used in rack KVM switches.
@@MyPlayHouse Lenovo 7ZB7A05229 well that’s the U.K. model for me. Thanks!👌
Okay,, mine is the Danish version,, probably not much help to you :-)
1 core, 1GB is enough for PiHole.
Humm maybe for less traffic.
@@MyPlayHouse enough for my 10K DNS queries per day for 33 clients. 0.01 System Load.
this sounds somewhat juicy - lcd nodes need faster net and nvme - the next gen sbc liable to break things open a bit - why? you can run netfs nodes v easily and for lo power - compare this vs 6/7th gen refurb prices - the refurb almost always wins - you could use this as a router and have it share sshfs share as well so you have best of both worlds but to really gain you want 3 units for cluster quorum - do a opnsense ha in front of this for failover and link agg - you could run wireguard and keep all ports closed
Lots of possibilities :-) It a tiny server,, it can do it all :-)
hello, I've F4-220 that have CPU issue ( not working anymore), are you planning to sell your old F2-220 ? i would like to buy it, so i can replace the mainboard on my F4-220 nas. thanks.
Maybe,, my business email is under the about tab,, but I am out the next week,, so remind me in like 10 days.
@@MyPlayHouse are you back? i didn't found your email, so I've send one to your web-shop email.
I tried proxmox ve on NUC4i5 but gave up on configuring network. I was not able to configure VLANs and virtual switches. So i installed ESXi7u2. Runs absolut great. Has a 1Tb Samsung 870 SSD, 8Gb RAM and i'm running an old Win2003 DC with Exchange and SQL-Server, Proxmox Mail Gateway, 3CX Telephone system and a OPNsense Firewall. And sometimes a Win7 for configuration. 5 VMs on a dual-core i5 with just 8gig's of Ram and a single NIC. Takes 5W idle and 17W peak.
Configured 2 VLAN (LAN, WAN) and route them over the single NIC to a smart-managed switch, where i extract the WAN to a single port connected to the gateway.
And if i need more power, i can switch to a HP elitedesk 800g3 with nvme, quadcore i5 and much more RAM.
Well I think this little NAS is going to become my edge server host.
@@MyPlayHouse did you have successfully configured advanced network options (VLAN or virtual switches) on proxmox? i was not able to. that's why i switched to esxi.
I think I might need some linux help.. but I might be able to just forward that port to the virtual router...
I have not gotten to it yet :-)
Morten have you done any video's on Single Board Computers (SBCs). I just got a Rock5 Model B RK3588 and it's my first one. Linux or Android or both which one I need help. Who's good at this stuff do you know or anyone else can help.
LOL, Noo! I am avoiding that crap now. SBCs are good for IoT not for a desktop or a powerful media viewing/consuming station. Just leave it as is if Android works and plays HD UA-cam smoothly. For various experiments just use cheap ITX board with the CPU you can afford without damaging your budget.
@@ran2wild370 It's an 8 core 8k CPU monster with outrageous specs
No I have not messed around with that.
