Something people don't talk about with the PS1 version of the game is how the developers on it chose to make characters animate at a lesser framerate, creating this very unique style to that version of the game that worked hugely in its favor for its presentation with other effects-work.

The PC version's visuals are comparable to the Dreamcast version (though there were a few cuts to the effects such as lighting, particles etc). The PS2 version's visuals are significantly different and more advanced than any of the others. Polygon counts are much higher, and environments are far less blocky and have greater detail as a result. Lighting was also heavily enhanced, with new shadow effects.

@@MyScorpion42 The PS1 version also has actual voice acting as well, so i'm assuming that's the point being made. The PS2's VA was rerecorded however and is better than the PS1 VA. PS2 also has the option to set the voices back too the old gibberish as well too.
Despite the new hub world, bosses and enhanced visuals though, the PS2 version is still sort of closer to the "other" versions of Rayman 2 than the PS1 version. PS1 has a ton of missing levels, some levels heavily edited or abbreviated or even combined together. So a lot of the time, it's almost its own version of the game in that sense. The PS2 version does mostly adapt the same level design as N64/DC/PC on the other hand. Even though again there are a lot of visual enhancements and even a few minor changes here and there.

The PS1 version was actually the "original" one, it's the one that started development first at least and the unlockable 2D demo you can get is the earliest form of what would become Rayman 2. However, the original core Rayman 2 team moved onto the N64/PC version, while the PS1 version was handed off to a different team, Ubisoft Shanghai. They weren't kept entirely up to date with the latest code from the other versions however, so PS1 is based on an older variant of the code and a lot of quick and dirty adaptations had to be made to get it into a completed state. While it would obviously have been a visually lesser version of the game regardless, it's likely that it could have been made to be closer to the other versions with some extra time and effort. Instead, a lot of levels were cut, made shorter with areas missing or even some of them were combined together (like Whale Bay and the Water/Ice Sanctuary).
