These hobby focused videos are really your best stuff. Not enough knowledgeable/experienced hobbyists have UA-cam channels so it's great to hear well detailed ideas around an army's construction.

Everyone likes listening to you (and others) talk about their hobby projects - can't wait to see footage of them, finished or unfinished, on the channel! As for me, I'm just finishing up my 6000pts of Thousand Sons printed from scratch for 2.0. Lore wise, they're remnants trying to keep the spirit/practices of the crusade-era legion alive. Rules wise this translates to Guard of the Crimson King, each 'maniple' of the army being autonomous on the tabletop, overly-complicated tactics etc. Will share the images on the 30k subreddit when they're done! P.S. Thanks for asking about everyone's hobby projects - it's been lovely reading about them below.
My hobby goal is simple atm: My 3 companies of Badab War Astral Claw with Tyrant Legion support (500+ models). Still painting, and will not buy anymore models till it completed.
I've been in the hobby that long that I am at the same point you are with your Emperor's Children force you're working on. As a joke for my local GW store's monthly painting comp, I turned the model, a Fellgor Beastman for Killteam, into a "Traitor Enforcer" for the CSM. It's basically a Traitor Commissar. Now I'm making a Mutant/Traitor Guard force for CSM because I can. I can even send you picks and what-not for you to judge after it's done!
Endryd Haar really needs a not-'Eavy Metal paint job to make him shine IMO. Their whole "flat colours with outlines" style (I never got why people lose their shit about 'Eavy Metal tbh, mostly-dull paintjobs by people capable of so much more) makes it look like the armour came off the assembly line with faux-battle damage sculpted in. Some more texture around the broken areas would make it look so much more natural. Still, the sculpt is really nice, and not overdesigned to boot.
Every time GW does those close-up shots on their store, the paintjobs look hideous - especialy on the faces. It feels like the artists would rather be doing classical canvas art, rather than minis.
Everytime I read comments like this I want to believe the person is referring to some incredibly gritty paintjob worthy of a golden deamon. But then I remember all the times people actually showed off their prefered takes and it was yet another lazy dry brush paintjob.
i'm doing similar with death guard using 40k minis for late heresy/siege of terra. I am planing to convert some myphtic blight haulers to rapiers and the plague burst crawler to arquitor bombard. I do need to find some correct terminator and astartes weapons to replace the 40k plague weapons to heresy era weapons, That is what green stuff is for.

This episode was great to listen to! You've just given me some really good ideas for a potential corrupted offshoot of my own Emperor's Children army which I have in the works!
Awesome video as someone who does definitely struggle with finishing armies this video makes me want to put in more effort to achieve my goals. Army I started in HH1.0 was infantry heavy iron warriors force. But late last year when I resorted the army I changed to a forlorn hope theme for my IW mainly still infantry but more a focus of melee and aggressive units.
Whenever I have a blossoming interest in an army, I’ll do a 1k list for ZM. See how they play, then based on how I like painting them or how they play (lore being extremely important also.) I either make a full 3k army or I say “eh not for me” and now I have a small well painted force that’s fun to change it up from my normal armies.
I don’t know if you ever finished that Emperor’s Children army. I can’t find it on your page or playlist. I’m not particularly a fan of EC but I would love to see it.
I don't play heresy, but I'm currently working on an astra militarum army. I have it so the different unit types are from seperate reginents of the same world that have been reassighned into a combined arms regiment. I'm using 3d printed kasrkin helmets and shoulder pads to tie the athstetics of the myriad units together. I liked the slightly goofy but badass look the kasrkin have, so I aimed for that.
Doing something similar myself. Putting together a feudal guard army for armies on parade later in the year. Planning to have four different heraldry schemes in it, tied together by the knights (three sentinel-knights and one foot-knight). One knight has his foot guard, one has the artillery, one has the rough riders, and the last one has whatever final unit I decide to build. Will it be competative? Not a chance. It is a small force that tells a story, and that is it.
@@brotheroftitans6000 Thus far, Cities of Sigmar Steelhelms and Feusiliers, combined with Kreig arms and Skitarii helmets. There is quite a bit of shaving required to get the arms to line up just right on the bodies.
Honestly few things bring me more joy than bringing a model I’ve converted to the table top and people saying “that’s fucking cool” or in the case of a chaos spawn I made for necromunda “what the fuck is that it’s actually gross”
I share the goal of wanting my opponents to say "That's cool man!" The people I play with every weekend are the ones whose opinion matters. My current goal is to make the inquisition force I've always wanted
My questions regarding the model are: If he was missing when they found Angron, when the Warrior Lodges happened, and when the Loyalists were killed at Istvaan III... How come he has World Eater iconography instead of War Hounds? Didn't the renaming of the legion happen AFTER Angron was found? Was he just far away but still in communication with the legion and was able to change the iconography only to defile it after he found out they were heretics?
Kinda felt harr model would find approval here, was not disappointed. This(and seeing red hand destroyer art) settled for me the color scheme for my loyalist we successor chapter - black with steel or silver trim, with bronze decorations(and bronze helmets to denote veteran/command), and an edit to add here, special red decoration all over their armor(can be made unique to each model or character if so desired, lore reason - enemy blood that got onto the armor and after cleaning left interesting patterns, think spots or stripes on big cats). Macca is right about the halo, if I was doing conversion for my guys, i'd remove the middle spike and put a nose, and 2 spikes on the sides to make into pointed "plane" ears. Solewise, one would think they'd come up with a better design. Those projects/models sound quite interesting, can't wait to see them in action/finished.
Honestly one thing that you touched on that’s really got me missing og heresy is I miss being able to make a much more customized force with a lot more weird stuff going on Now every force is kinda just 3 dreadnoughts and covering your bases which is real boring
A boring episode ?! No ! probably one of the best ! I'm an unfortunate Imperial Fist Player since HH 1.0 ... in the 4-5k ish points... and like you I don't like to play armies that everybody play. Now they take dust. I also have a good word bearer force that was oriented toward daemons (40% space marines 50% daemons and 10% cultist) with just non aligned daemons from various makers and range all painted mostly black to represent the Calth force. Now the goal in 2.0 is to make a Dark Angel armies with them returning to Terra at the end of the HH with only MKV and only veterand (all different models with their own heraldy and battle honnour like 2d edition artworks)
I’m just glad it’s not another Sons of Horus praetor. Nice model, swap out the pauldrons because they look bad, cut off the world eater icon and it’s perfect.
Sounds familiar. Well, one of my little projects (that keeps me entertained, but is moving very slowly) is an Alpha Legion 'agent' playing a delegatus in a loyalist expedionary fleet of the thousend sons that's hunting space wolves... I think I annoyed you once on FB with a picture of the death stalker minis that are TS Recon Marines (basically incorporating parts of slain SW in their damaged mk3 armor....). ...i get most of my enjoyment out of converting obscure 1500-2500pt forces linked to Alpha Legion shenanigans.
I’m thinking about starting a Luna wolves army, might be a loyalist detachment that was stranded before the heresy. Do you think this would be seen as too far fetched or lore breaking for heresy games?
It's not at all far fetched or lore-breaking, really. Some might be Istvaan survivors returning to the old colours in defiance, others might have been absent when the legion got rebranded in the first place, and others still might be like Endryd Harr in having never been reunited with their primarch prior to the Heresy. I myself am currently working on a Luna Wolves Recon Company army, with the focus being a loyalist detachment fighting a guerrilla war behind enemy lines and so can't afford to be weighed down by heavy equipment.
I’ve started a iron warriors army too i want it be units I don’t normally play in breachers and tanks so it is a hand of the gorgon style list im making i will have some cool stuff like a fall volkite kratos tanks
Damn, you basicly did what I did for EC :D though I used MkVI and Noise marine Bits. More so themed as a newly formed company that took a nose dive straight into all the slaaneshi nonsence.
And I thought that my 30k Militia, World Eaters, Night Lords were bad. Then I consider the 40k World Eaters combat patrol and the upcoming Night Lords kill team as well...
