    🔺Today's Topic:
Do you struggle to get a crisp nail shape? It’s not really you! It’s the file you’re using.
Let me make this very simple…
An emery board is for shaping natural nails.
A board file is for shaping nail enhancements.
What’s the difference between the two?
Let’s start with the emery board…
A true emery file is made of mineral powders (corundum and magnetite) and allows for a gentle filing of the natural nail. These files are also thin allowing it to slide nicely into the groove or side wall of the nail for detailing. They are the ideal tool for shaping natural nail before applying product to them.
    Now, let’s talk about a board file…
A board file, quite literally, has a board in between its two sides of its abrasive. The purpose of the board is to keep the file from flexing during nail shaping. Once the natural nails have product on them, they become too hard for an emery board to shape. Your pressure coupled with the hardness of the product would flex the emery board and “dent” your shape. With a board or metal file this is avoided, and when you couple the right file with the right technique, you end up with crisp shapes!

Hope this quick video posts helps you nail those shapes going forward!

Thank you so much. I was aware on a super basic level to file my nails a certain way, but I never seriously considered in depth the type of nail files I've been using beyond whether or not a file irritates me based on performance. I really appreciate you taking time to educate on this topic. Very interesting. I'll be watching this video again. :)

I wonder why no one ever mentions using glass files for finish shaping on soft gel sculpted manicure

Hi Paola !!! If I bought staleks metal base with popmAm. It doesn’t have the card board but it also doesn’t feel very flexible. What would you consider it more like ? ☺️

      Hi Liza!
The one that is almost an inch wide, is like a board. The one half that width is more like an emery, and is also quite flexible.
