    Just had it happen to my 08 Silverado 1500 - Almost made it to 175K, but got a major gas whiff the other day. New pump, lines, gas lock, and labor (which I won't touch when it comes to it) just set me back about $900. Bah! Guess I was due as she was running pretty nice for a while. Still beats monthly payments on what these trucks are going for these days and interest rates. Cheers!

    Just fixed mine on my 2011 got 220k miles out of the old one it set EVAP codes and had one hell of a vacuum on the tank when it was running new pump fuel line and EVAP lines since they snapped off in the pump and no check engine light and no fuel leak very satisfied I put all gm parts back on not messing around with aftermarket junk on this kind of job

    My line snapped the EXACT same way! After seeing the price for a replacement, I used a dental pic and penetrating oil to clean the inside of the stainless fitting the best I could. Then I used needle nose pliers with the tips placed in the voids between the retainer tabs to squish the rusted thinned out line from both directions and collapse it. (Same place as your pick @ 5:58 to the bottom, and also side to side) Cleaned a bunch more rust out and the retainer started rotating so I was able to get a bunch more out! The retainer clip now spinning and all 4 tabs fully retracting with all the crud gone, I was able to squish the flared section of the steel line and collapse it. THEN I used the easy out and it worked great! Thanks for the vid!

    Awesome video. Just got my new Delphi fuel pump for my 5.3L 2007 Sierra 1500 new body style. She’s going strong at 251,000 miles!

      Just curious is the body of your pump actually stainless steel. The last one I installed was a delfi but wasn't stainless as they used to be. Seems they may have sourced from another supplier.

    You are totally right pertaining to class action lawsuit I just got a 2009 Chevy Silverado 121k it runs good a little misfire but before I bought it I smelled fuel by the filler neck . But with further investigation I found fuel on top of the fuel tank 😮 .Don't understand is fuel not an accelerant ? That's why I have not bought any North American cars for years due to things like this a fuel pump is not supposed to rust out like that it dangerous especially dealing with exhaust temperatures and fuel pressure 🤔 Mercedes BMW Audi Volkswagen,Volvo , Honda Toyota. When it comes to fuel systems I have never had problems with a rusting out fuel pump after 121k that's ridiculous .. GM trying to kill overhead on production cutting corners Wow ..

    I filed a complaint with NHTSA (US) for my 2009 Silverado. It was spraying fuel out of a pin sized hole in the rotted out metal pipe of the sending unit. Gov will Prob do nothing, but 🙃

    • @PhillipBailey

      @@kylebailey2884 it's likely only sold with the tube. I have used a plastic tie strap to secure the pipe. There's no significant pressure on it so it does not take much to retain it.

      Yes I know and the rust check guys don't ever get to that spot. I've replace 15 or so now. Cary from APC who watches my videos found those clips aftermarket. I've ordered a couple for stock. Like $1.75 each.

    • @PhillipBailey

      Couple hours labour plus the price of the pump. I'd recommend the Delphi unit as it's stainless steel and comes complete. I've had poor luck with Standard Motor Products. Hope this helps you.

    Really good video as usual Phillip. I have a 2011 Duramax. The fuel pump assembly was wounded when I bought and I had to pull the tank and do a repair on the return line. After I put it back together the big o-ring leaked a little. A few weeks later it quit leaking. Now, a few months later it is leaking pretty good. Can I use a silicone gasket sealant on that being it’s a diesel? Thought I might replace the pump assembly as well. Thanks for all you share with us. Good stuff.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  2 роки тому

      Hello and thanks for watching. I'm pretty sure the Duramax does not have a pump in the tank, only a pickup and screen. If you're referring to the 4-1/2" o-ring on top of the tank I'd replace it with a proper o ring. They should be available aftermarket. How do you know the oring is leaking?

    • @eddieclark7025
      @eddieclark7025 2 роки тому

      @@PhillipBailey I have fuel leaking from the shield and onto the rear end. From your response I’m guessing that 4-1/2 o-ring usually doesn’t leak. It could be the return line I repaired is leaking.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  2 роки тому

      @@eddieclark7025 I see. The oring would likely never leak fuel as the level is not that high ever. The fuel supply line is a suction line and if it leaked would allow air into the system and cause starting issues. Only the return line could leak and not affect performance. So that's likely what it is.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  Рік тому +1
