Jungle SWALLOWS UP Entire Greenhouse!

- Here we try to restore a greenhouse to its former glory. As the rural jungle tries to engulf the whole greenhouse, can I beat back the thicket of Brambles, Holly, Hawthorne and Ivy and allow this greenhouse to be used once again?
New owners of this property are due to move in very soon, my hope is to make sure this doesn't scare them off, as the house (and gardens) have been left derelict for some time.
Watch this full transformation of a cottage garden greenhouse.

Thank goodness there was a breeze outside.
If English Ivy was eatable, none of us would go hungry!
If you could bake bread out of brambles!
😂 it'd certainly be a sustainable food source.
You can make cake out of the blackberries 😁😊
I've watched a lady use ivy leaves to wash clothes with...
Just because I live in north Texas where summer temperatures can (and do) get to 110F+/- doesn’t mean I think 81 is ‘easy’ for y’all.
While I’d beg for highs in the 80s, I sympathize with you and your heat. Great job!
So much better!❤
It looks usable and inviting for the new owner to have a wonderful time in! We were 96° last weekend but in the high 80s so far this week. AC is on and I’m watching you garden on UA-cam! 🎉😅.
SWEET! I'm soo happy to see you tackle that little greenhouse. 🤩 In the state it was in, it muddied your fantastic garden tidy ups there. It's an ittle bitty thing, isn't it? Glad you trimmed behind the shed, because it was going bonkers! I think about all of the castles and manors about the UK that for centuries allowed Ivy and Climbing Hydrangeas to dig deep into the buildings exteriors. Granted it is STUNNING, but it would be a full time job just to keep it all wrangled. I see many gardeners removing it now, so that the structures can be repaired from the damage.
SIDE-NOTE: I watch a guy, Ben Saunders of Flawless Cleaning, who's been restoring gardens and homes (for free) and showing up-close what the Ivy damage has done. He is doing a series right now for the lovely Jim & Jean (oh my I want to sit with the 77 year old Jim and have tea, biscuits and hear about his life!!) What a joy it is to see Ben and his cohorts work to give Jim and his disabled wife a total refresh. He has done another series as well with Norman and Peggy... such awesome, inspiring work. I cry at each one. Sorry not sure why I rambled on about that, but what he's been doing , what you are doing, makes my heart smile. (ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=flawless+cleaning+services) Wow, all that for "Ivy"! 🤣
As for the Climbing Hydrangea, we had it on our brick fireplace for at least a decade, but realized the damage it was doing. I'd had the 3 back surgeries and just couldn't keep up. I wish you could have seen it though! We had a stone face hanging within the leaves. I think I still have a picture of it somewhere...
I feel for you trying to work in 81* weather which is bad enough, but working inside an oven of glass, retaining that heat to I imagine nearing high 90's couldn't have been fun! It was a good tidy up! Boy, I'd love to putter around inside there, on a MUCH cooler day, that is! I'm a whiner when it gets too hot. I love Lakewood (just south of Seattle), but the weather has become much hotter thanks to climate changes. We used to be Maritime weather, much rainier, but now it is not surprising to hit well over 100* 😳. Often.
Well, Martin, I apparently missed seeing your smiley face and blathered on enough for 8 of your videos 🤣 I was so happy to see one this morning, that I had to get a coffee and some lunch while I watched. No interruptions allowed! I have to do the same when I watch Ben's videos too! (@FlawlessCleaningServices) You 2 are my FAVORITES!! Well, I hope you are well. Stay cool! Good vibes from Western Washington 💛🖤💛 Stacy M
I watch that program also. It great too!😊
Me three , I really appreciate both Martin and Ben and his Dad and helpers.
Longest comment ever 😅 and I had to read it twice, so I didn't miss anything 😊
@@martinthegardenguy ... sorry. I won't do it again. Promise! :)
Please do, I enjoy reading them 😊 it's awesome, in fact 😁
Looks like a new fabulous intro! Love it,Martin. I’m a cold weather gardener, too Martin. I’m with you, too hot at 81. Welcome to the new world. Greenhouse looks great.
Haha, cooler, the better for me too 😅 I run hot 🔥 🥵 😂
Thanks for the compliment about the new into, I'm glad you like it. 😊
When you are inside a green house It would be warm enough on a hot day ??? Hope it has window that opened
And I live in Kentucky USA the summer gets very nice and hot and humid 🥵 don't do much in the heat
It certainly way far hotter insidethe greenhouse, I meant to take my thermometer with me to find out as I knew it was going to be warm work 😂😅 kinda glad I didn't. Some things are better off not knowing 😁
Great job, hoping they keep it and make use of this awesome spot.
Me to 🤞🙏
Yeah, the " greenhouse effect" is actually where they got that phrase for climate warming. That greenhouse holds the heat and humidity inside it waaay too well!..and yowza!! They are not kidding!
You did a great job cleaning the greenhouse out! It looks fantastic...and so inviting now. I hope the new family enjoys it as much as the dear lady before them. You both have left a lovely legacy!❤
Oh, thank you. 😊
I like the word you used, legacy. I think the lady certainly has in this garden. I could wander around for ages and keep finding little things she'd done.
Thanks again
Martin
Looks great!! 👍👍❤️
Great clean up Martin, I hope you saved all those little garden stakes, they are perfect in a greenhouse, cheers!!👍👍
Indeed, I did 😊, I stacked them up elsewhere in the garden where I had already found another stash of canes and stakes.
They really do last a long time. Some of them looked older than me 😂
Wonderful job. Nice greenhouse now that it is clean. Great job cleaning up behind it, too. I wanted to jump in and help you clean!
Haha, thank you.
You'd have been more than welcome to help out 😅
Fab job as usual. You have given the new owners a starting point to get growing.❤
I hope so 🙏 🤞
Thank you for watching 😊
I’ve been waiting for the greenhouse! You’ve done such a great job restoring this garden to it former glory. I hope the new owners keep you on. And, of course it’s the hottest day so far. Life is like that….
We’ve got tomorrow at 27 degrees too
Haha, it's my terrible planning that does it to me. I'm always flying by the seat of my pants as my grandmother used to say 😅🤣
Fingers crossed they'll see the greenhouse now and think, wow, I wanna grow some tomatoes 😂🤞
Looks amazing! I would be happy to work in that garden greenhouse! Nice job!
Another great job and yet again she’ll be saying thank you Martin. Lovely finale to this little series here’s hoping new owners keep it up. Very brave venturing into a greenhouse in that heat!
Oh, thank you. Yeah, it's about all done now. I'll keep the lawn mowing going until they move in, but beyond that, I'll be saying goodbye to the place soon.
I'll certainly miss it, I'm a sort touch and get attached to the gardens I work in 😊😅
Hi Martin 👋
You did a wonderful job of tidying up the greenhouse. It must've felt like a sauna in there! Nothing phases you Martin. It's so satisfying to see it ready & waiting for the next owner. Thank you 👍
Thanks ☺️ although I was a little phased at the end of that day. I felt like I had a hangover in the evening 😂
Note to self, put hat on straight away instead of halfway through the job, and drink more water 😁😊
@@martinthegardenguyI’ve probably drunk half the reservoir where the water comes from today in Luton..not leaving much water for others to drink.. for a min. it made me think .. i hope i don’t have diabetes drinking water like this
lol!!!! 70 degrees in house 103 degrees today outside!! In the desert!!! 🌵
Haha, I had you in mind Colleen when I mentioned the desert dwellers who have to deal with worse than this everyday 😂
You're a tough lot 😊👍
@@martinthegardenguy you bet! Thanks for the mention! It is cool to talk to people in different countries. Hope you and your family have had a great day!!
Wow. Didn’t realize that those vines took up so much room. Looks great. Good job 👍
Thank you. I bet they'd have happily carried on growing until they literally burst the greenhouse 😂
I can't believe it really, I know Ivy isn't that fussy. Full sun, or full shade.
But that greenhouse mush have got incredibley hot during summer with the door shut too.
It's crazy how it could survive that 😅
Nice job Martin. Too hot to work in a greenhouse.
Yeah, it was. I'm daft as a brush, as my grandad used to say 😅🤣
I got the job done, though 👍 sort of...😁
Cold cloth under that hat and another around your neck. It’ll make you feel so much cooler doing such a hot tough job! And it looks wonderful! I’d love to have that set up
Oh yes, I used to do that. Back when I was younger and far more intelligent 😂 sometimes I'd have my clients freeze them first.
I certainly run hot 🔥 🥵 😅
@@martinthegardenguy same here, that’s why I know 🥵
It would have been a lot hotter inside the greenhouse even with the door open so not an ideal job for a hot day but it needed doing and you made a huge difference.
I don't know how I do it, but I tend to do everything at the wrong time. It's a gift 😂 I could have done this greenhouse back in January. It'd have been far nicer 😅
You think 81 degrees is hot. Try 100 degrees for three weeks straight, then high to mid 90s all summer. We live in the southwest United States where it’s hot and dry all summer. I also love winter. You did a beautiful job on the yard. The green house looks great all cleaned up.👍🏻
Thank you 😅😊
Wow, I don't know how you cope with ot that hot. I'm not designed for that 😂
Hi, Martin. Fantastic job on this greenhouse. Take care.
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏
Great potential. Well worth the effort and suffering.👍
I agree 👍 😅 Thank you.
Great one, working in a glass house on a very hot day 👌💪🏼the greenhouse looks lovely, the new owners would be fools to throw this one out. Sustainability 💪🏼👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I couldn't agree more, I'd be around to dismantle it and take it home to my garden if they did 😂 and I've already got one.
Sustainability all the way 👍
My husband is the same about cooler weather. He's from the Central California coast, he grew up across the street from the Pacific Ocean, so the summers on the California coast always gets overcast gray skies, it gets pretty cold and the hotter it is inland, the colder it gets on the coast. I grew up in the Los Angeles area, it got overcast also but it cleared up and it was warm but not too hot, luckily. Most of the towns cities near the coast, the homeowners don't have A/C, that's how the older homes were built because of the sea breeze. We moved two hours inland in a central valley city, a lot cheaper homes lol but it gets up to 105° F..Yikes! And of course we turn up the A/C. Most of the coastal cities don't get as hot and near the mountains it's not too hot either. My husband loves going on vacation during the winter. Where a lot of people go on vacation (Holiday to you) during the spring and summer. We take long road trips to different states that have all the snow. It's beautiful and seeing all the mountains covered in snow, the Grand Canyonf looks beautiful with all the snow draped all on the cliffs and all the other national state parks are amazing. Plus, a lot less tourists and hotel rates go down lol..he prefers cold weather, I just don't care for the gloomy gray skies and after we married and I moved to Cambria, we lived in a cute home by the ocean where he grew up, we had an ocean view and hear the ocean waves, but I hated the daily gray skies and wearing a pullover sweater or a light jacket during the summer. I use to drive east to another central California town just to feel the sun! Lol.. Btw, in Cambria, California, there was a really good restaurant called, The Brambles. And I used to live near Hawthorne, CA., on Hawthorne Blvd. And we lived on Norfolk Ave. in Cambria. California has a lot of names from England 🙂..I forgot, my husband is taking me to San Diego to make up for all the winter snowy vacations! A nice resort and a big swimming pool 😂
Hello Martin, I am glad you finally made it into the greenhouse. It does look a lot better! And they have a nice collection of recycled pots to start using it. The milky glass will filter the sun a bit, and it can be cleaned when the cooler days come.
It remembered how to rain here, now it can't remember how to stop, and I miss the sun. At least when its raining its warmer than when its frosting.
I hope you didn't suffer too much from your hot day under glass.
Oh, bless you. You are always ever so practical and none critical. So, a super big thanks from me 😊
I had actually planned on using the pressure washer on a light setting to rinse them down a little. But the mains water to the house was off.
I'm kinda glad, I really was flagging a bit by the end 😅😁
Great job Martin 👏, you said you’d go back and tackle it! 😀 I felt for you in the heat, I live where today it is 93, feels like 104 with humidy. Your temp would be a relief for me, especially with that breeze blowing, but hot is hot! 🥵 I love cool weather, I long ago decided I was born in wrong place! 😀😂
The greenhouse is nice & tidy, ready to grow seeds/plants. You being hot, but you still cut the low hanging limbs! That’s because you are a true gardener! 😊
Watching and enjoying from Texas 🇺🇸
When i moved to England in 1974..at age 12.. somebody told me..” it snows there “… ohhh my god i was the happiest person in the whole world… i said .. i’ll rub hands on the snow.. cos the palms used to drip with sweat at school & the writing books used to get wet & couldn’t write on it so had to hold a handkerchief in my hand.. i’ve enjoyed every min. of last 50 yrs. of my life in England after 7 yrs. in East Africa & 5 yrs. in India with 47 degrees
@@0010-n8q 😀 That’s a good story! Thank you for sharing. I have thought, since I’ve gotten older that I will move. Not in the cards now, but I feel I will. I’d bundle up and make snow people! 😁❄️☃️ All the best to you!
@@R-Texas I have many memorable pics. from the early 80’s ( it snowed even in July & Aug throughout 1981-1990 ) my self in the garden with snow piled up on my lap & me almost buried in it.. snow all around..icicles up on the edges of houses as u open the front door.. fear of it landing on your head.. not snowed like that in England since those 10 yrs.
Bless you, I don't know how you do it. Maybe I'd acclimatize to Texas heat eventually, but it'd take me a while.
Although I hear the BBQs would make it worth it 😂
It's always been on my list of places to visit 😊
Fantastic job! It all looks so nice. Keep cool and drink lots of cool water, too. Rest after a lot of work, too. 😁
My greenhouse in summer becomes an extra-room with a great view for my indoor cats. All roof windows let wide open, with a safety net...but I'm a cold weather gardener, too! Italian summers are very hot 🥵 great job as usual, Martin 🔝
Wonderful job, clean and tidy, ready to use. Fantastic job on this greenhouse 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Thank you 😊 🙏 there were some free bits in there for the new owners as well. I hope they put them to good use 🤞
Wear light colours when the sun's strong Martin! Good job on the greenhouse but I hope the new family don't demolish it after all your efforts, that'd be sad! Here's hoping.
You did it!
Yeah, I finally did! 😂 it only had to wait 6 months or so 😊
8o degree weather here in the states is wonderful. In California it gets up to 115-120 degrees in summer. 48.89 Celsius. That’s when you need a pool lol.
I'd need to live in an ice bath 😂 I'm not one for hot weather.
@@martinthegardenguy I can understand that. ☺️
I so love that garden. Wearing black does not help, very brave Martin.
Indeed, it does not 😂 I think I'm either daft or a sadist. I even forgot to put my hat on until half was through 😅
Looks so much better well done.
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏
Hard work ! Took me all day back in March sorting my greenhouse out ( with a bad back had to sit a lot) Sprayed the glass inside and out with white vinegar then jet washed . Had an abundant harvest this year as a result of making that decision to clean and sort properly - must have been exhausting in the heat !
You forgot to mention that it's 20 degrees hotter in that greenhouse 😅 You did a nice tidy on it, but its seen better days.
Haha, yeah, I was going to take my greenhouse thermometer with me as I thought it'd make a nice shot in the video. But I'm glad I didn't, ignorance is sometimes bliss 😅
It's an old greenhouse, to be sure, but I'm optimistic someone could still get some use out of it 😁🤞
Much improvement, I've been waiting for this part very much. Sorry your battling the heat also, I'm in Christchurch NewZealand
I hear it's rainy season over there? 😊
Regarding our body temperatures,my mother moved from England to Oklahoma USA, she was put on blood thinners. So yes it does make a big difference! Looks fantastic though! ❤
Well done you for carrying on in the heat. The greenhouse looks great and there's some good stuff in it that should be useful for the new owners.
Oh yeah, it was like a treasure trove of cool garden kit. Most of it will still be useful, you're right 😊👍
Thanks for watching
Martin
Drink plenty water! ❤
I do, when I remember 😂 although occasionally, it the headache that reminds me to drink.
It looks very good tidy . You must put a wet towel around your neck. Job well done
I used to, but I'm getting more and more daft the older I get 😂 did you notice I didn't even put my hat on until half way though the job? 😅
I'm always lathered in sum cream, though, my daughter won't let me leave the house without it on. And she's only 4 years old 😂 she's far more sensible than I.
That would be a cool front here in SW Ohio! I see English ivy is every bit as invasive in England as it is here in the US. Don't let it grow up trees! Ivy strangles trees.
It is indeed just as much of a pain over here 😅 although I still like it. I respect its ability to grow virtually everywhere, whether full shade or full sun. It doesn't seem to care 😁
Ivy. Growing in and taking over the greenhouse….the horror 😱😱😱. You kicked a$$ on clearing the whole thing out and putting it back to rights! 🙌🙌🙌💯💯💯💚💚💚
Well done. x
👍👍 good job
Thank you 👍 😊 🙏
It’s beautiful!

I understand the heat thing. I live in Florida . Don't wear dark clothing . Go lighter, it helps
Good job! Sorry about the heat, you’ll learn.☺️ The new people will appreciate the hard work.💚
Thanks ☺️ I hope they don't get rid of the greenhouse 🤞 it's a proper sun trap. They'll be able to grow anything in there 😁
Hello Martin! I enjoyed your new intro. 😊. I understand about the heat; yesterday, here in Missouri, our high temp was 97 degrees Fahrenheit with a “feels” like temp of 101 degrees!!!😮. It was miserable outside. I enjoy the cooler temps so much more! The greenhouse looks so much better!! Take care and God bless you and your family! Sincerely, Diane 😊

That's true, I've still got a van full of wet weather and winter kit 😅

Thanks to you, Martin, it looks like a greenhouse again. With some cleaning it will be usable once again. I'm one of those desert dwellers and it's 10:30 am and 90 degrees. The cooler is about to be turned on. The desert has it's own beauty and my children live here. Otherwise I would live near the beach. The Fall and WInter are my favorite seasons. I don't like the heat either, Martin.
Oh dear, a desert dweller that's not keen on the heat 😅 that sounds like the kind of life choice I would make haha
You're right, though, every place has its own beauty. I think I also picture my self living next to a beach, even a large lake beach would do for me 😊 I'd be out fishing after work, and cooking the catch right there and them. Awwww, what a dream 😊
Lovely job, as usual.sorry you have to work in such heat.i usually work in the cooler part of the day to work. Today in Queensland it’s a mild, or rather coolish 21 degrees.

Where are you Martin? Hope all is well.
Hi, all is well now thanks. Just been dealing with some of the curve balls life tends to throw from time to time. All sorted now 😊👍new videos coming this week in fact.
Thanks so much for noticing 😊
Martin
Hi Martin. I don’t envy you one bit for being in this heat. When we get a beautiful day of sunshine it’s so intense. I can’t remember a day where the wind hasn’t been blowing yet as soon as the good weather came in it’s disappeared. The seasons have merged into possibly three seasons at most. I live fifteen minutes or so from the coast in Cornwall yet the just seems to be no soft breeze anywhere. Not that I mean it to come across as moaning it’s just so strange to me how the weather has changed since I was a kid. Plus in Cornwall we have the highest water rates which makes it difficult with watering the plants. Every drop of grey water counts. I shall miss seeing the hard work you do in this lovely garden when the new owners take it on. Well done, you’ve really brought it back to life in the right way xx
Oh, thanks, Joanna 😊
I think you're right, I've noticed subtle changes in the weather even since I was a kid. And sometimes not so subtle.
I'm in Nottinghamshire.
I love Cornwall. Is the Red Valerian still out everywhere? It always reminds me of Cornwall for some reason.
@@martinthegardenguy Yes it is out and thriving though sadly I have had to tame a few bits of it that grows naturally on our pathway between mine and my neighbours house. Boy do they have deep roots, which is possibly why they do well in the beach areas.
Beautiful job, lucky clients to get a greenhouse all built and ready for them. Swop you your 27c for my 13 c here in western Australia. I hate winter 🥶 Stay well 💚🐝
13 degrees? I thought it was always hot in western Australia 😅 that's perfect outdoor working temperature 😁
I was in Perth many years ago, and I'm sure it got to 46 while I was there. It was about as hot as I've ever had.
Although Cairns was only 25 and yet I still ended up pouring with sweat the whole time I was there.
Roll on summer mate 😊👍🤞
Martin, I would like to have a greenhouse but that would be another thing to take care of. Ivy is such a invasive plant. I planted it under a maple tree where I had made a stone border. It killed the tree. I tried cutting it off the tree but it prevailed. It has been extremely 🥵 hot here. I can only work outside in the morning until about eleven. I bet it was at least ten degrees warmer inside the greenhouse. It looks good now. 😊
Haha, you're totally right. I've a greenhouse that I love, but it's certainly a lot of extra work. I keep forgetting to water on hot days, because after I finish work I'm normally shattered.
Ivy definitely can be a pain, but I'm still a lover and not a hater of ivy 😅 I respect tough plants that can deal with anything.
California desert, nearly triple digit here.
Oh dear, I don't know how you do it. It'd be the end of me 😅 I'd have to be an indoor (with A/C) gardener 😂
Very nicely done! I am with you. I like to work outside in 60-65 degree F. Glad you survived this glass house. 😊 Stay safe and thank you.
What I would give for it to stay under 90f during summer and 30’s - 60’s in winter. At least I don’t like in Chicago with -30 to -70 below zero in January and February! I’ll think cool thoughts and ice cubes for you!
27C is hot in Canada too, Ii like it at around 22C
I don’t even like it at 22… i stop at 8 degrees .. day or night.. after childhood in East Africa & India at 47-52 degrees.. with footwear of any sort or flipflops getting stuck to the tar of the roads & you have to abandon them.. left with bare feet & bottom of your feet completely blistered
Haha, yeah. 20-22 does it for me 😅 that's just right.
Although I'm still happier in the snow 😁
Fantastic job ❤❤❤❤❤😊

I like your channel mate, you do a nice neat job. being a red head with pale skin I can sympathise with you on the heat front. Except I live in southern NSW Australia It commonly gets to 45° c in the summer probably averages around 36. I do gardening as a bit of a side hustle. One summers day I did three gardens 40°…..for shits and giggles weighed before I left home. Took 6 litres of water with me, drank the lot, and weighed when I got home I was 2.5kg lighter than when I left after consuming the 6 litres. I’m with you not a fan of the heat lol
Awesome! I've been in the same boat. I used to do a lot of running in summer, and the weight loss from water is extreme. I wish it was as easy to lose kebab and chips weight 😂
I love Australia, I hope you're enjoying yourself out there? 👍
Although pale skin and red hair can't be much fun in that heat, I hope you factor 50 all over. Or "Ginger Factor," as my red head friend calls it 😁

Ugh. Ivy and brambles are awful. You smashed it, Martin, but hopefully you didnt have heat exhaustion afterwards😮
Haha, a little dehydrated, but that my own fault for forgetting to drink water.
It's was a fun little job, it was a treasure trove of cool greenhouse equipment 😂
I've about done in this garden now though 😥
Some of those pots are junk and need to be thrown away ❤
Oof, handsome lad, Martin. Just sayin' ;)😮
I never know if people are being serious when they say things like that 😂 my mum said I was very handsome 😂😊😁
@@martinthegardenguyYour mum wasn't lying. She was spot on.
Haha, thank you. She also said I was rugged to 😅😁
@@martinthegardenguy You flippin' well are a big rugged lad. Gay, straight, whatever. You're certainly a big rugged handsome lad.
Where is your hat matey 😂
Haha, I forgot to put it on until part way through. I can't believe I forgot. Fortunately, I'd lathered up with sunscreen in the morning 😅
💚👍👍👍
Go find a pond to jump in.
Haha 😁, the only pond near here was Pete's stagnant (yet beautiful) nature pond. If you remember it? It'd have cooled me down, but I'd have ended up with dysentery 😂
@martinthegardenguy yes, I would have to give that a hard pass too.
❤👏❤️👍💋🇷🇺
I like 60 celcius
I mean 16 celcius
Haha, I was gonna say. That'd be nice and warm 😁 it'd make a nice cup of tea.
What I would give for it to stay under 90f during summer and 30’s - 60’s in winter. At least I don’t like in Chicago with -30 to -70 below zero in January and February! I’ll think cool thoughts and ice cubes for you!
