What a simply brilliant solution to something I have struggled with. Thank-you.
Thanks Imightberiding!
Seriously clever David.
+Wood Worker . Thanks! I scratched my head, slept on the process and then it came to me how simple this easy solution was. Anyone who owns a bench grinder will have a light bulb switch on over their head, lol.
Nice clean work shop !
Thanks Fon Jet!
Just found this now. Awesome tip. Gonna order some buffing wheels
Good luck!
hi dave thanks for the info very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
@@DavidStanton I never thought to turn the grinder around like that, is so simple now lol.
Very smart! Never thought of that. You have to leave the guards on if you want to use a platform rest as a guide.
My problem is that the soft buffing wheels I added for jewelry polishing are too loose due to spindle being too long, so I cannot make them stop wobbling. I also have an 8" new grinder but wish I had bought the 6" one instead. Too much power!
Thanks for the compliment MJ Remy!
Amazing David !
+Daniel Solowiej . Thanks Daniel.
I still do my chisels on the grinder and a small container of water, then hit them up on a old leather belt that I use as a strop. But one day I'm going to purchase the Tormek water bath stone grinder, then look out my chisels and blades are going to be scary sharp.
+Adco Martin . The tormek is on my wish list as well.
the reason a grinder spins downwards is because if you loose grip of an item its thrown downwards .if you use a grinder that spins upwards ,an item could thrown upwards which is dangerous to the user . so what you call a safe way is completely wrong ,and you should never use a grinder with the wheel spinning upwards .
Plus you are on the wrong side to hit the switch in an emergency
I would take the guards off and hold the chisel pn the underside of the wheel, so you can stay on one side and polish if you know what i mean
Hi Skiiiler! I like to see what is happening from above.
@@DavidStanton i dont think you get what im trying to say, you basicly turn the chusel around so the sharp part is pointing away from you
Great videos please keep them coming
+rosebery101 . Thank you, I will do my best!

Sorry!
so great!
Thanks SnowLemon!
Sorry for my ignorance. I know nothing about bench grinders. Do you mean to say that the wheel should be spinning away from you/ counter clockwise for safety reasons?
Away at the top of the wheel from you when using a felt or polishing wheel. towards you when using a grinding wheel.
David Stanton Thanks for the fantastic tip !
you can remove and flip the motor round
captainnemo and then what about the grinding wheel?
Wait so is the felt wheel turning away from you? That wasn’t clear.
ManualFocusShow, were you watching at 52 seconds? Couldn't get much clearer.
i still prefer my flat leather strop for polishing my chisels, works just as fast
+Jesus von Nazaret . The advantage of this is to be able to polish any items, chisels or other metal items.
Maybe you can try wool material polishing wheel , Nicefelt is a professional manufacturer of wool felt polishing wheel , is made from 100% wool , size is from 100mm to 250mm , thickness is from 5mm to 60mm , www.nicefelt-china.com is our website, hakimniu@nicefelt-china.com is our email , welcome your inquiry for products details .
I believe you are overheating your chisel by grinding it and destroying the temper where the metal is the thinnest. I have a wet wheel for my chisels and lathe tools. You do have a striking shop.
That is possible Jason, but they still cut very well.
Guess what boss...? its much smarter and better to unscrew the bass from the motor and flip it around. Take it from a knife maker who knows about blades and buffing!!!
Sounds like a plan Monolith Knives, but I still want the grinding wheel on the other end so how is your method smarter and better?
How stupid! It would be exactly the same as it is now. You did not think this through.
