I’m glad you watched this one! It’s hauntingly beautiful, especially when you know it was written about one of his best friends, Joe Hughes, who took his life at only 19 years old. His body was never found 😿 I don’t believe this was performed on the actual bridge (Menai Bridge in Wales), but I’m sure the location they chose was intentional. Ren dedicated and named his first album Freckled Angels in honor and memory of his friend. And there’s also a restaurant named Freckled Angel that a mutual friend opened near the Menai Bridge. I agree that there aren’t many people who could match Ren’s intensity and sensitivity to the music. They sing from deep within their soul and are deeply connected in the moment. Their eyes lock so intensely and neither overshadows the other. I like how you described it “the extreme of their uniqueness matches.” And I love how supportive they are of one another! The independent musical siblings are killing it 😼 I suspect Ren used the amp and gear that he used while busking. They have a busking video together doing Marvin Gaye “Sexual Healing” … gotta do that one 😼 Other collaborations that I love are Ren x Bibi “Crutch” - not filmed live, but a truly stunning video and performance. And Ren x Eden Nash “Humble” where you can get a taste of his reggae vibe. It’s just a lyric video, but I really like it. Both songs are fantastic!!
I would love to watch the Marvin Gaye cover lol after seeing his Beyonce cover I'm more than sold. And thank you for explaining this story to me - I assumed it was "how to be me" given all the complications Ren has experienced. There's darker places than this, i read once
@@Beldvlmnt with the way it is written, it could be coming from both perspectives. Someone commented somewhere that you can’t write something this vivid without experiencing it yourself. And the loss of his friend and questions of whether there is anything he could have done must have haunted him as he was bedridden and battling depression and psychosis. But channeling all that into such a beautiful and touching piece of art is a gift.
They do have some live busking together as well as a live stage performance. Not everything is on Ren or Chinchilla’s YT. There’s a @renmakesmusicfanpage that has a lot of videos too
I recently watched an interview with Chinchilla and was really surprised that they first met when she was asked to do Chalk Outlines with Ren. It feels like they have known each other forever because of the way they connect in their performances. I don’t know if you are interested in reacting to Chinchillas solo work. Her song “Fingers” performed live for Hunger tv is an excellent example of how talented she is.😊❤
I’m wondering if you sense that about the vocals because I am guessing that Ren is fighting back tears and still able to sing through which speaks to his control and talent and Chinchilla is matching that emotion which speaks to her control and talent. Love your reactions. Thank you.
You definitely hit it on the vocal control. Both have to hold back because it would be easy to oversing this, but as a duet it is next level beautiful.

If you look closely, you can see tears on Ren's face as he sings the last part.

I think your analysis was spot on. I saw a video of Ren singing the song solo and he couldn't get through it without tears.
