I would love to see a "but college" series for meals that are cheap and use minimal kitchen equipment. Love your content!
Second this!!!
omg yes!
but that is what this is
you only need the ingredients a knife and a pot
Watch Life of Boris
This series has been getting me through college learning how to make my own meals on a budget
This series has been helping me with food prices.
This series just helps me deal with hunger everytime we run out of food and have to go to the store
You have time?
@@ricotoffen822 Im still a kid but I don't have much time anymore
To feed a family of 4 from target. 4.99 for a giant tub of mac and cheese. 2.99 for a 7 pack of chicken breast. So...I guess it checks out. Finally a but cheaper I can say the math makes since and nothing to do with California being a price tag death trap
With the ridiculous cost of living in the UK right now, this series has been clutch. Not only for dinner but me and my partner have the best leftovers for lunches and are the envy of our respective workplaces! Thank you Papa Josh

I wonder why cost of living skyrocketed...couldnt've been Brexit, right?
@@XxSirPillerxX Who knows. My question would be how does Brexit affect Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada... I could go on but the cost of living is skyrocketing all over the world, not just the UK. All blamed on Brexit?
@@XxSirPillerxX as a proud Scotsman, I blame the English and especially the tories

Made the lemonade form this tonight, it was absolutely incredible. I would love a mini series on making drinks from scratch like that, I know the emphasis is mostly on cooking and baking but I would love to learn how to take base produce and make a delicious drink out of it.
I highly recommend checking out the recipe for state fair lemonade by chef John from food wishes. It uses the same technique with the zest and sugar to make hands down the best lemonade I have ever tasted.
We need a but broke series where you do a but cheaper on but cheaper recipes
That would just be depressing
I hit “like” not because we need this, but because it made me laugh. 😁
Just make the same recipe but with cheap ingredients. What about this is expensive?
I second that emotion
but cheaper but cheaper pizza: get a slice of bread, coat it in ketchup, then add a slice of kraft singles and microwave
Aye, I literally just finished rolling out some good ol' ~sticky buns~ using your recipe!
Your recipes never let me down Joshua, thanks so much for doing this channel--even if I'm not planning on making the dish, you somehow make it enjoyable to just watch you making it.
Love you man!
i still binge his videos even though i can't cook half the stuff he makes lol

The amount of happiness that fills my soul whenever Joshua uploads a new video is unimaginable.
Same!!
Please keep these drink ideas coming!!! They really round out the whole meal and I’m always stalling for new drink ideas 👀👀👀
I’m a simple man, I see chicken nugget, I click
Looks delicious! Could you make a video about air fryer fried chicken one day? Thanks
I hope you see this! Me and my boyfriend make your meals a lot!!! We say “papa no kiss” 😂😂😂😂 from Miami, FL! Xoxo
I don't understand how, but this guy can make ICE look more appealing than I ever could
"It should have always been chicken nuggets and mac&cheese"
Me, who is deathly allergic to dairy: "Oh......okay :("
Try topping your macaroni with spaghetti sauce or another sauce you like. You can still have that soft pasta texture with the nuggets.
Do a Mac and vegan cheese sauce using cashews and nutritional yeast (unless you have a nut allergy too 🤷)
This all looks delicious!! 😍😍 Thank you for another amazing upload. 👍🏽
Appreciate the hard work put in to your videos
Wow, the only thing missing in my pantry is celery powder. I may be able to make another Josh's recipe aside from the homemade tortillas 😂
I’m still trying to figure out where to get 2 pounds of boneless chicken breasts for 6 dollars; these California prices are insane man. Great video as always though
And milk that's $1.25 for 2L or $2.50 a gallon.
you didnt pay attention, its chicken thighs not breasts.....thighs are like 6 dollars here in southern california, literally just bought some at ralphs today
This is the first time that I've ever seen someone do Mac and Cheese the way that I grew up eating, almost all the time that I see it being made, it gets baked everytime, and I grew up eating it right after the cheese sauce is made and added to the pasta.
I love this cookbook so much.
you just awesome Josh, with your recipes makes cooking easy ❤️ my love for lemonade is just something else
I just salt and pepper the cut chicken pieces and coat them in cornstarch then fry. Turns out crunchy and delicious.
Papa is actually the best!!
Your right! The B-ROLL is not cheap….. ITS PRICELESS!!!!😎
Ha Na
Just made these for dinner and these are the best chicken tendies I've ever made. Very nice!
I love how he gives us good tips on how to make this cheaper but then uses 3 litres vegetable oil to easily skyrocket the price
+some of the ingredient prices looked very generous. And the thumbnail is what? 8 "servings"? Idk. I appreciate the content, but I can't help but feel the price estimates are real click baity.
You do know that you can reuse the oil, right?
@@bradcavanagh3092 You can, but only a few times, for me 4 batches in the fryer is the max amount before the oil gets dark.
@@Eihei Yeah it depends what you're frying in it as well, but the point is that even with 4 uses the cost of the oil isn't much at all and it should be considered a pantry staple like flour, sugar, salt, and spices.
@@bradcavanagh3092 Depends where you live. Vegetable oil where I live is $5/L. So for ME, this recipe isn't cheaper.
This is popcorn chicken. Nuggets are made with chicken pate/puree and filler. I've been making this at least 3 times a month for the past couple years, almost exactly the same way with pickle juice. Try adding a tsp of maggi liquid seasoning to the mayo. That's what I normally do when I'm out of bottled chickfila sauce.

Liked that Josh opted for mac n cheese. Mixing nuggets and mac with buffalo sauce to make buffalo chicken mac n cheese is one my faves after a fun night of drinking. Probably tastes 10x better made from scratch
The lemonade is the MVP here
The price of the oil used is already 2x the price of the rest
Yup thats what I was thinking. Wonder if it still works with an air fryer.
You can strain and reuse it.
What a life saver, I can finally prepare chicken nuggets for my college life
I’ll try this over the weekend. It looks delicious. Thanks man. I’m man I am a fan.
Ya gotta just love this guy!! Thank you
I just fried some of these up. Damned good. A touch salty for my tastes, but that's all preference. The marinade really penetrated the chicken thighs over the 8 hours I was at work. 8 out of 10, probably 10/10 once I figure my salt preference.
Josh, I really need to know how you prized the pickle juice, for the sake of science.
I tried your chicken katsu receipt. After I made it , It was mind blowing to taste . Always love your vid!
So looking forward to putting these recipes into practice someday, when I have a kitchen again...
Nice Video, will do that for sure.
Comeback Sauce would be awesome to this i believe.
Need a good recipe for the sauce…. Please do one someday!
Hey Josh just made your $2 gyro recipe and it was one of the best things I've eaten, thank you so much for great recipes!
Dude, I love your stuff. Just bought your cookbook! Love the videos though!! Please, please keep them coming!!!
Thanks for sharing this! You make creating content look easy 🙋🏻♂️ Greetings from the U.K
Love your content brother. I would also love to see you make some Jamaican food 🇯🇲!!!
Excellent work, as always. Total inspiration for new flavours. I love homemade chicken nuggets with a passion. Really delicious but a bit boring as I tend to make up the same seasoning, turmeric paprika coriander KFC mock up. So good with Kewpie mayonnaise. 10 out of 10 and definitely correct about it being cheaper to make your own. My daughter and I can hardly eat a fillets worth between us. It generally costs about $3 for the both of us..
Beginning with your chicken stock video, I started buying whole chickens. The value you get out of a $10 chicken is insane if you take the measly 15 minutes to break it down. If you do it with several and store the meat right, you're eating well for a couple months! You might consider a video about the applications of breaking down a whole chicken. You can plug your other videos that demonstrate great ways to use all the parts.
Oh my gosh!!!!! Yummy! I just can't with your ideas anymore. I am going to have to get going in the kitchen!
I know this is US prices but wow.. this would be easily 3 times the price in Australia. Great video, love them as always. You didn't count the cost of the oil to fry? That would have been almost $8 AUD in oil here too. So the $2 nuggies go closer to $6 by my count... Australia expensive man....
the prices are ridiculously under exaggerated
Joshua would argue that you can re-use the oil.
I’m in the US and where I live the lemons alone would have been $2.
@@darthplagueis13 food absorbs oil and frying with flour dredge especially if it contains spices degrades the oil a lot.
No one seems to realize that this is a *PER SERVING PRICE.* Everyone always gets that screwed up.
Amazing homemade chicken nugget❤️
Amazing, a simple meal prepared expertly!!!! Wow
when you try to make this but you have no ingredients 😅😅😅
wow an actual reasonable recipe from you for once without some wild ingredients that nobody has ever heard of
Most of their But Cheaper recipes are pretty reasonable though
Just something I do with my mac that I've found elevate it slightly, add just a touch of honey (mac can be overly salty at times adjust as needed) and a little nutmeg and black pepper. But otherwise, that's basically the same recipe I've used for years. I also sometimes cover it with cheese and stick it in the oven for 20 minutes to melt and brown the cheese.
Sounds crazy but add either: a little onion powder, dried onions, or super finely cut onions. The onions in the cheese with the pasta is magical.
I once had a cookbook from the best recipes of Gourmet magazine from 2009 I think and their recipe called for dry mustard powder and garlic salt yum. I also added two types of cheese or the mixed types of shredded cheese. I also like a sprinkle of paprika.
Ohmygoshhhh this makes me wanna cook more! Love it!
Making this tonight. I already tried the Arnold Palmer and it’s really good.
Hey Papa, what would I need to do if I wanted to prep these to make em on demand? Would you need to 1/2 cook the chicken and finish cooking from the freezer? Dunno how that would work.
Thank you! I can’t order from Chick-fil-A without also getting a side of Mac and cheese and 8 piece nuggets for later. Heat up the max and cheese and top with chicken in a small cast iron skillet in oven then take out and drizzle with their honey mustard sauce so good!
made this tonight and it deserved a chefs kiss
Today i found out about you, and after binging 10-12 episodes I was subscribed, got the book orderd, and the meat grinder. Fkn love you man! Legend 👏✌
Hey Josh, could you please list the number of servings this makes? Thanks
Please do continue doing more recipes like this. I would love a "But Healthier" series or something. Great video by the way!!
Well Done, THANK You for your recipe young man .
Arnold Palmers are my absolutely favorite hot weather drink. I usually just mix iced tea and lemonade 50-50, but this sounds like an awesome variation, I'll give it a try.
I definitely prefer making nuggets this way. I do use breast mostly though, since I tend to chase higher protein totals. The whole throw meat and skin into the food processor just doesn't work for me. I don't like the "processed and formed" model of chicken nugget. This is the better way to go.
Yay now I don’t have to eat overpriced food
Well yes, but no. :(
Woke up hungover and the UA-cam algorithm blessed me with this video. Shiz looks bussin'!👌
This looks so good 😩😩😩
1.97 only after buying 4 dollars of oil oh you dont typically have dill pickle juice and some other niche ingredients that would also cost you more than 4 dollars. Oh chicken isnt less then 2 dollars. Yeh the prices on this channel are totally legit.
Oh man the price of a stove, pan and yada yada isn’t covered these are 1000€ chickennuggets
Doesn't this whole thing gets closer to 20 dollars than 2 dollar ? Or is a serving one-tenth of the whole meal ? I'm looking at the price of the ingredients, which are much cheaper than where i live, and i just don't see how it gets to that 2 $
Because its not. Josh just uses economies of scale and goes off the "per serving price" to make everything seem cheeper then it is, It's honestly kind of cheating especially since the full amount of servings or total ingredient prices don't seem to be listed anywhere in the video.
It's $2 per serving, not in the food costs in total.
@@philippoon8879 sure but the image suggests otherwise.
The assumption is probably that the viewer won’t cook once in their life and never again. So if Josh did the price of the whole ingredient, rather than the serving price, he’d be listing the price of a whole container of salt and pepper. But your salt and pepper is going to last you many recipes. Likewise with AP flour, MSG, sugar, etc. Realistically, most people that cook regularly will have those things in their cabinets. They’re the basics. The chicken price can range wildly depending on where you are, the cut, the amount you buy, and what a normal serving size is to you as an individual.
Made the lemonade today, very delicious, I agree hoping to see more drink recipes along with whatever food we're having here :)
I love this! I make the nuggets almost once a week to feed my toddler's chicken nugget addiction 😂
Unsure if I'd get that much more than 3 lemons for 2 USD where I live 😭
It’s all per serving so in the end it should come out to around $2 usd
Same
@@flyingdolphin1015 Thanks for reminding me. This is always the case with these videos, I know that - but then I forget. It was mostly a comment on the horrible food prices these days, not very well thought through though, sorry.

Great video Josh!
Why is oil never a part of the price?
😂 I was thinking “ that’s like a whole bottle of crisco for chicken nuggets?”
@@mikewatson5281 u can reuse ur oil as long as u don't burn it
@Follow the howl that argument always drives me up the wall. When I moved into my house there wasn't oil in the cupboards, I had to buy it at some point... it's like those DIY videos: "I built this for $2! I had this that and the other lying around so that was free, plus $2 for the glue. See!"
@@fleuttre4510 even with the chicken fat in it? I’ve never tried to reuse oil
Oil is the 2nd most expensive part of making fried chicken. The first most expensive is the chicken. The second most expensive is the fried. Quite frankly in every but cheaper (or comparable things on other channels) they include the cost of oil in the pan so why do they not include it when it's a vat of it...
Would love to see more beverages from Josh! This Arnold Palmer looks UNHOLY REFRESHING AND DELICIOUS
Holy cow.
The Arnold Palmer recipe is a revelation!!!
I usually make fresh iced tea, and fresh lemonade and blend.
Game changer!!!!
Your cookbook chicken nuggets are fire. Best hand down.
I noticed no cost for the oil but you account for salt. All cost should be considered
Then add like three cents. Jeez.
@@THENAMEISQUICKMAN if only 4 qts of oil cost 3 cents lmfao
minor criticism: your mac & cheese lacks the flavor-punch of the boxed-stuff. full-marks for quality ingredients, but you've gotta find a way to compensate for the flavors brought by all the chemicals in that orange-dust.
Two words: Nutritional Yeast. You want the boxed funkiness without the chemicals - just add Nudge! Seriously, it's a great umami-bomb, try it.
@@XanderDDS You're welcome! It's an old(ish) restaurant trick. Try it on popcorn, yum!
Hearing papa say 'wisky business' makes me tingle all over 😛
the grind gets heavy. grind on my man.
Thank you for making a simple syrup for the lemonade! It is definitely the best way! Grainy lemonade is gross!!!
I wonder how much per serving this would've been with cheaper lemons. Those lemons were pretty expensive. 🤔
If you have a Non-American grocery store (Bodega, Vietnamese grocer, Indian grocer, etc), you can often score cheaper fruits and veggies. Aldi's or Sprout's are decent options if you have them too.
Not all lemons have peel that is safe to consume.
I tried the chicken popcorn and it was bananas.. so good, I will always use this recipe easy and tasty. Thanks Josh😋👌
Hey Joshua!! You should do a video on meal prep tips for students!!
Fried chicken isn't the same as chicken nuggets. Real chicken nuggets use ground up scraps of chicken meat, and bound by eggs or something. It can go far cheaper if you were to use the leftover chicken scraps you have left from making another meal. Brings down the cost even more if you were to steal some leftover chicken from the supermarket dumpsters. Actually, it would be free if you break into someone else's kitchen and used their spices. But always remember to leave them a portion so they won't get mad at you.
Josh, you’re a talented cook and l love your channel, but does every video have to be fried chicken+some sort of bread? The variety on this channel has been shot out of a cannon
I just made this recipe and Oh my god was it SO delicious! I let it marinate overnight and it was Mind Blowingly good! I give it an infinitey outta 10! Thanks Josh!
