Yes Josh but you forgot to consider that I need to buy a pan, a pot, a spoon, a stove, a house, the food that gives me the energy to make the chicken, and I need to pay my taxes which ACTUALLY brings this meal to $253,678
the trick is not to throw the pan, the pot, the spoon, the stove and the house in the trash afterwards, you actually can use them multiple times

Awesome as always. I think it’s fitting there’s a “But Cheaper” episode directly after he spent $800 making Ramen.
Im glad you addressed my only issue that i've ever had with series like these. Its understandable that we will buy a 5lb bag of flour and not go through it all, but other things like raw chicken we might not have on hand especially because it can spoil. If you could show a total cost on top of the per serving price that would be great!!! Otherwise great episode as usual! The fries looked amazing!!
Did you miss the beginning of the video when they show both costs
@@godisdead6611 ON TOP of the per serving price. Don't get me wrong good food, good video but it's very clickbait heavy. Things like the oil to fry in are left out and things like the cabbage and the chicken will spoil of you can't eat them fast enough
@@kuronverz2793 ok cabbage lasts like a month in the fridge. I went on vacation for a month in January and there was my half a head of cabbage in February still usable. Left over chicken goes in the freezer.
I also didn't like the cost of oil being left out since it's integral to the dish. I agree that it's hard to buy everything for a meal like this but that's what cooking is. You buy larger amounts of ingredients so you have those ingredients on hand to make other things. As a cook I'd maybe make a stir fry with the left over cabbage and chicken. I might bake something using the flour. I don't know what I'd do with the oil besides do another batch of fries but I wouldn't do deep frying of anything. I just watch JW do it:))
@@kuronverz2793 I'm guessing this is meant for a family of 4. There will be little left over if you all enjoy this meal... If you are a single person or a pair, you can definitely use leftover veg and meat for other meals if you are an adventurous cook. No waste. If you don't want to use much oil, you can always change the method of cooking. Air fry or oven fry, which is similar and uses considerably less oil. There's always going to be a small cost with the usage of oil and prep/cook time. Not much though if you prep well.
@@puggirl415 you can re use oil after cooling and putting it through a mesh sieve
I wish a chef on YT would post a menu/grocery list for every meal they plan on cooking for each week. Then every week night do a live stream cooking the meals so that people can follow along and send superchats. That would be legit

Hey Josh, I invite you to try the cheap, super fresh coleslaw that's traditional to Romania where I'm from. It uses just shredded cabbage mixed with lemon juice/white vinegar, salt, pepper and olive oil, maybe also add a little bit of shredded carrot for taste and colour. Some people add dill too but I don't like it. Also the japanese way is very similar just replace olive oil with sesame oil. I find these versions without mayo more suitable to go along with fried food. Thanks for the video!

People are asking questions about the spice mix and rub at 1:10.
The brand name is FIESTA. Might not be available across the country. Stores near me sell it, and I like their Mexican oregano. I've never bought their chicken rub but I will give it a go soon. The Walmart up the street carries the whole Fiesta line of spices.
The ingredients from the label: Salt, Monosodium Glutamate, Spices, Paprika, Garlic, Onion, Rice Flour, Sugar, Butter Flavor [(Corn Starch, Modified Tapioca Starch, Dextrose, Gum Arabic, Artificial Flavor, and Silicon Dioxide (Free Flow Agent)], Lemon Oil, Silicon Dioxide (Free Flow Agent), and Citral.
Could you do video on what you do or how you discard left over oils, season flour, basically the prep work setup stuff. Thanks.
Thank you for properly spicing the flour dredge. Sometimes I'd also use powdered chicken bouillon or stock as it contains a lot of the flavours and umami that makes the flour coating pleasant to eat when fried
You are friekn awesome! Love watching your show and learning from you. I'm bored with lack of new ideas. You rule!
Looks amazing 👌🏻 😍 Congratulations on 6M. Greetings from Scotland 😊 Have a wonderful day everyone 🌻 Thank you for the lovely recipes 👌🏻
Yess, a lot of chefs don't add spices to the buttermilk or the dredge, *this* is how you make proper fried chicken!
But I think it's important to factor in the cost of cooking oil as well, as you won't be able to re-use this oil much.
Oil is like a monthly bill it's something you just have or you have to buy when grocery shopping 😂
@@GamingXPOfficial It's not, when you're frying food though. You'll use at least a liter of cooking oil for this meal, and you will at best re-use it one more time before having to throw it out.
He uses 3 quarts of vegetable oil, which costs about $6 if you buy the cheapest brand. If you factor that in, the total cost is going to skyrocket.
@@obuw1 That only brings the total per serving to around $2.75. Sure, that's nearly 33% percent more expensive, but the meal costing $3 per serving is still pretty cheap considering restaurants will charge $7+ for a similar meal.
Ive been doing stuff like this myself for likme a week already. It was surprisingly easy to get good results with very little effort. This has given me a couple more ideas to try.
Josh, you are an absolute genius. I made this last night, and they were the best chicken strips I've ever eaten. My husband and son said the same. even if it costs double than what you state, its still a deal, the local gas station sells a 3 piece tender meal for $6, no sides, the fast food price is pushing $11, side note, I made a similar meal minus the fries and coleslaw, add rice pilaf and green beans tonight for dinner, 4 of us ate for under $20 including half a gallon of milk.
