- So after playing with Costum roms you get this strange error
ad there is nothing you can do ..in fact the phone is bricked..
means broken .. well kinda , the software is messed..
How ever if you get this on your original firmware , and you
never messed with the software to reinstall other roms , then you must directly think of what app you installed that caused this.
It's software related and not hardware , so you can try to fix it back to original , You will lose everything on the phone..thats the down side , but your phone will work just fine again.
Maybe a tip ..
Don't try to install other roms if you not sure..
You can Root , but root means anything can happen to your phone data and credits..
The safest phone should be one that is not rooted , but on that Myself disagree if we look at all the crapware starting and running
on factory firmware like those from Samsung .

This is incorrect. I ran into this problem today and I fixed it this way :
-Boot into recovery mode
-Apply update
-From sdcard0
-Chose my custom firmware (i didn't remove it from my sdcard when I first installed it, back then. In my case, the firmware was "cm...blabla..v11.blabla.zip"
-The update took a while, then it asked me for my pass to decrypt the storage and everything went fine.
I understand that my case is very specific. In fact, this was a shortcut for me, because I was gonna fix my phone the hard way if the previous one failed. The hard way is to access my phone from Linux with adb, backup my data, wipe everything and update to CM12 with adb sideload. Never forget that an OS is (basically) just a bunch of files. If I didn't want to loose all my data, I would adb sideload CM11 (CM12 has new support for hardware encryption and lost support for the encryption used in CM11).

thank you, fixed my s6 edge stuck on the encryption error. Liked the part about if it still doesn't work after kernel, just wipe cache and user settings after booting into recovery. Worked like a charm.
help me sir , i installed "applock" software from google play and its advanced version too...and i gave it admistrative rights to increase security but suddenly after some hour all app(like calender,youtube..etc) started crashing so i got panicked and rebooted it then my phone showed me this exactly same error "Encrytion failed.."and asked me to clear my memory and i clicked it several times but it didnt happen so i got into factory reset mode( my phone is XOLO A500S) and clicked "clear emc" for clearing my internal memory but now it is still now working ,not even showing the encrption error.....it just stops on XOLO logo and hangs.................can you suggest me something???

Hey dude,yea i had this problem on Samsung Galaxy S plus,but i fixed it.I brought it back on original rom,and it worked.But when i want to get back on my custom rom(cyanogen11)the error pops up again,and i dont know whats the problem now.And i found out that I can only install Touchwiz(Samsungs)roms.If u have any idea how can i get back to my CM rom,please let me know,thanks.

Channel 48 I'm having encryption problem with my Huawei Ascend G730-U10. I'm stuck in the start as I can't enter the download mode. I've been googling for 3 days but can't figure out how to start download mode. Odin3 isn't recognizing my phone in recovery mode.

i'm not an expert but i think every phone has a different download mode method. for example for lenovo phones you have to just press volume up/down then insert the usb cable connected to computer/Odin/or sumthin like that. . and not every phone can be fix by odin. . . i mean brand of phone. . .
This very same thing happened to me on a brand new Lenovo A1000, literally a couple of hours out of the box. As soon as I turned it on and started logging into my accounts, Google included, it offered a software update, which I did without any issues. I started installing a few apps and I manually put in some phone numbers in my phone memory (bad idea, I know), at which point I noticed it was running a bit slow. I got impatient and decided to restart it, which always worked on my old Samsung devices with no trouble at all.
When it turned back on, I got the "Encryption unsuccessful" screen. Unknowingly, I hit reset. After a little while, the screen turned black and lines of code in groups of three showed up, some errors about the cache memory, I don't remember exactly anymore. After three groups of similar text showed up, it offered a list of options in plain text, among which factory reset as well. I tried that and, while at first it seemed to work, it didn't progress anymore at some point. I tried a hard reset with the power and volume up button, which prompted the Android instalation figurine on the screen, but which halted it's development at some point too. I was furious by now, the phone was brand new, and I removed the battery, which I don't know whether was a good idea or not. I replaced the battery and turned it back on and it slowly, very slowly came back to life and allowed me to start using it's functions again.
In the few hours since, I've put my accounts back in order, installed my apps and added some content without any more issues. I really hope I won't have to deal with this pile of crap again.

Hello. I followed all these steps but in the end it says "FAIL" in Odin. I also can't get into recovery mode, whenever I try to, the tablet shows an opened up android for a second then goes back to the reset screen (the one in your video). Any help would be appreciated.
+TheMHG09 ok I think you have a usb problem , a windows problem or some other problem , Odin should be able to fix the phone , so next step is to try this on another pc or laptop , make sure no firewall is blocking the procedure , I have comoro , never had a problem , but it could be you use some other product , or just try another usb port ,.and another way is to see what is starting up in windows , disable it via MSCONFIG or even better tell me what windows you on?
+channel48 Thanks for replying. I'm on windows 7. Odin perfectly recognizes and adds the device in all ports, yet it fails in the end. If Odin says that the device is "added", doesn't that mean there is no USB problem? I also read something about a"hidden.img" file that needs to be renamed to "hidden.img.tar" Do you have any idea what that could be?
i think the downloaded file is corrupted , did you get it from sam mobile? download it again and try another usb port i know nothing about hidden file that need to be renamed , so study what the guys say about it if options i give you don't work

Mi celular HUAWEI G526-L33 estaba funcionando normal y de repente dio error todas las aplicaciones abiertas y arrojaba "la aplicación se detuvo: notificar, esperar, finalizar" las finalice y de repente se reinició el celular, al reiniciar el celular arroja este mensaje con la pantalla en blanco. Dice así:
"Lamentablemente, la aplicación Extensión de contactos se detuvo." y un botón de aceptar al final.
Presiono el boton de aceptar y aparece una pantalla en blanco que dice:
"Error en la encriptación”
La encriptación se interrumpió y no se puede completar. Por esta razón, ya no es posible acceder a los datos de tu teléfono....(luego dice que debo restaurar el móvil a su estado de fábrica)

en la pantalla blanca al final del mensaje de error de encriptación hay un botón de Restablecer teléfono. Lo presiono y el mismo móvil ingresa al recovery, me desplazo a:
"wipe data/factory reset"
solo aparece dos opciones
"No
Yes--delete all user data"
Presiono Yes y esto es lo que me sale.

My phone out of no where just had Encryption Failed and it said reset device and i clicked it to see where it would take me to and maybe from there I would know what to do ,but it doesnt seem to work either . I have a galaxy s5 and I have done what you said in the video "volume up,home screen and the power button" It turned on and it says "Warning A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications " "If you want to download a custom OS press the volume up key.

I was doing it wrong, sorry, forgot to delete the comment. I thought when the tab said downloading, it was doing it through wifi, didnt know it was going to do it through a USB.

kyyd beatz production Wow , i just read your message , lets try a complete overhaul of your android .. power phone off , then hold volume botton up and then press power on and hold both until you get into a screen , in that screen navigate with your volume up and down to Delete user settings - then Wipe Cache and reboot - the confirming you do wth the power button , let me know if this helped

Oké ik had een custom rom maar wou terug naar een nieuwere omdat play store niet werkte, wat er gebeurt is weet ik niet maar ik kom met geen mogelijkheid verder of terug en krijg nu dus die error.
Het was cyanogenmod12 met lollipop. Odin maakt nu ook geen connectie lijkt t wel hij blijft hangen op "setup Connection"
Cyanogenmod12 lijkt wel op te starten maar na het booten dus die error..

I own a Samsung S+ and I had a same problem before. For solving this problem, firstly i'd just turned off and login to recovery mode and flash the rom which I'd ever used before. Then everything was OK. But unfortunately, I couldn't up any rom having higher version such as android 5.0 or 5.1, even 4.4.4 last upgrade.
Now, I still don't know why. If you guys have any solution for my issue, please share to me

pham oanh In Android 5/CM12, the encryption key is generated differently. AFAIK, it has a device-specific part now.
So, the only way to upgrade is full data wipe.

I have that error message on my zte grand x phone that I got through Cricket. I didn't try to root it or add custom roms, it just restarted itself and that message came on. my phone doesn't have a home button, just volume and power. I could really use your help.

Ditto on a ZTE Awe. Have not fixed mine yet. Hold down Vol Down and Power continuously through power-up. Takes about 30 seconds.

I get all the innerworking and how tos but im confused about a simple thing... is there a difference between firmware a a rom... I know you can custumize a rom (...dur) but whats up?

But it does not say anything about the install procedure mostly Zip files are installed on rooted ponds via a CWM flash recovery and Stock roms these day's have their own tools to flash / repair the phone back to original ..so question - is our phone rooted ..?

I was simply handed a phone by a friend... he said "Its messed up but its yours" cus he know I like to tinker and re-purpose lol... but its a perfectly good phone... so to stop boring you answer is I have no idea... regardless, at the moment, I can only go for a adb push recovery method... it will not go into download mode which make me think now its not rooted?
