I feel for you in the drought, our last two summers were terrible dry. Worst since ‘83. This year we’ve had exceptional rainfall. We’ll say a prayer and try and send you some. So awesome to see gamagrass coming in all over you land👍

Good morning! I’m praying for rain for you and yours. Drought is certainly one of the most stressful things a farmer deals with.
Regarding mowing a pasture after grazing to simulate non-selective harvest, how long will you delay mowing so as not to clip new growth? Gamagrass grows quickly!

Cool to see the finishers and kind of the other side of things when animal performance is favored.

I have a decent amount of goldenrod, but have never seen my cows eating it.

There’s likely some the cattle eat marestail very well. Most of what was there that resembles marestail was goldenrod.

@@runningtfarmsnc I guess both are Forbs which I understand are what is needed for deep soil aggregation as they put most of there sugars down there and very little sugar above the soil as above the soil is mostly minerals like you had mentioned. For this reason I try to direct my fat cattle on heavy grass for higher energy.

Deep soil aggregation loaded with humus should be everyone’s goal as then during the rainy season it will hold tremendous amounts of water and will percolate it back up during the dry season. Josh what you are doing will achieve this probably in just a few years
