  • Don’t freak out when your herd tramples your forage on the ground. You need to stay focused on feeding the soil with trampled litter when you have ample amounts of forage with your daily rotations. It's not waste!

Look at all that carbon with all that free clover seed. Cows consuming clover that went to seed will not cause them to bloat. That tidbit of information is going into my notebook thanks Greg!

Great video! You forgot to mention that all of that litter bank is also protecting the soil from drought when there is no rain instead of the sun baking that exposed ground and prevents erosion when it does rain, so all that topsoil doesn't wash away. 😎

Has been a learning curve to get sheep to trample this way but now that I get it, there is a MAJOR difference from the animal Impact!

Greg, there are about as much tonnage of earth worms and worm castings in good soil as you can pack grazing cattle on top. The trampled forage is feeding those worms. The secret to non-trample feed is that daily herd movement.

Unfortunately the majority of people involved directly or indirectly with agriculture are told by the chemistry and physics teachers, that they have all the answers, and that the biology teacher is either a bullsh*tter or doesn't exist. Most producers like to spend money on something they can feel, smell and see because it's easier and convenient. Working with and profiting from biology is a whole different ballgame and requires a big A-ha moment. I had been a strong advocate for "modern" agriculture, both in the supply industry and as a producer. I have witnessed too much go wrong and boy have I done a full 180! Greg your clips are an absolute gift.

Awesome stuff, keep on preaching it like you live it!
The more we do likewise, the better off we and our land and plants and animals will be.
Maybe even our bank accounts too.

Thanks for the video! Our sheep sure do stomp the ground like that. The cattle are getting to that point but I’m doing a game changer today. I put all the cattle and sheep together to make a bigger impact. I’m really excited to see the change. While I was watching this video, we had a small rain shower.

Thanks Greg for this video. I’ve been trampling my red clover field for 30 days thinking the same way that you explained in the video. I’m glad to hear that I was thinking correctly !!

That’s a lot of rain! A mob of cows can work over a paddock if not moved quickly in those conditions.

The gloom and doomers have golf course length grass in their farm and don't know why they have so many feed and vet bills. Hope comes with full wallet and a healthy bank account. Its amazing how avoiding money stresses allows people to make better decisions, be happier, practice kindness, and learn more easily.

So if you could magically change all that carbon trampled onto the ground into manure would you take it? It would still be feeding the soil; and you would have gotten the feed value out of the grass and clover.

    • @gregjudyregenerativerancher
      @gregjudyregenerativerancher  Місяць тому +10

Absolutely not. You would not have the precious soil covering litter bank that keeps your soil cool and catches all your rain water onto the pasture. Manure piles don’t do any of the above. If you don’t have a litter bank covering your pastures, you are in trouble.

Apart from keeping more moisture in the soil this method leaves a bigger root mass with plenty of sugar for rapid regrowth I think?

i have a question in the book of kings chapter 1 adonijah makes a feast with sheep cows and specificially fattened ox. ive heard you say u only approve up to 1k lb animals.. if u have that much carbon maybe it would support the footprint of a very large animal. assuming that ur not just feeding it grain..
maybe u scythe alot of grass and then feed it at home as opposed to out to pasture soo its super fat yet has a diverse diet.. and is sedentary..
iim interested in ur thoughts on this.

We let them fatten themselves on succulent forage with high energy plant tips. They get all they can eat everyday and get fat. We just manage the movement to ensure they never get hungry.

With pressurized water, keep the 50 gallon tank close to them by using quick coupler water points. With ponds and gravity flow water, use larger tanks like 400 gallon for 300 to 400 head. I’m
