Thank you so much for posting this!! My mother gave me my grandmother's case almost exactly like this one (only blue) but it's in bad shape. I was gonna try and find someone who would restore it for me, but after seeing this, I'm confident I can do it myself! Thank you again!
well done!!! both the inside of the case [which is so nice and neat] and the video [which was easy to understand]!! Thank you for taking the time to show the process!
+Bobbie Jo Imler Thank you for watching. I will be doing some more traincases soon to put up for sale, and I will be making a process video of it. I wish you would show yours on Google+ when you get done with it. I love to be inspired by others and to inspire people with my work. I'm Brenda Moffett or Fabricpaperandbeads on Google+. Please like and share, it really helps me out.
I had watched a whole bunch of videos that left me frustrated about doing this project, but your video was simple and easy and I'm ready to work. Thank you so much
Thank you very much for the kind words! Thank you also for watching and commenting also! I have actually sold a couple of my finished train cases. I plan to do more in the near future with different map fabrics and other travel-themed fabrics also. I will try to make videos of these too. I am presently still in the process of unpacking and organizing my craft, and sewing rooms. Thank you again for watching and for the kind words. 😊💖
Angela Anderson Thank you for watching and for the kind comments. You should try this, it's rewarding to see the final results, and it's not that difficult to do. I look forward to seeing your project if you decide to do this. Thank you again. :-)
Thank you Deb, the inside was actually easier than I thought it would be. I'm nervous about the outside, with all the hardware I have to work around. Thank you for the kind words and for watching. :-)
Dasupreme1984 thank you for watching and for the very kind comments. I plan to start making more vids soon. I hope you will check them out too. Thank you again. :-)
Excellent video - thank you so much for posting this! I bought a vintage Featherlite case with a very awful smelling interior (online purchase, didn't know it was smelly until it got here) that I am currently relining thanks to your demo. :o)
Thank you Shannon for the lovely comments. I was nervous about doing this because I wasn't sure how it would turn out. Fortunately it turned out better than I had expected. I used the pieces that I took out as pattern pieces for the new inserts. I am sure yours will turn out great! I would love to see before and after pics if you don't mind sharing. Thank you for watching. Brenda
I was almost in tears watching this amazing tutorial!!! One of the memories that I kept after my grandmother's after she past was a train case & luggage set that I used to play with as a little girl. I've been hoarding it debating on just taking it to goodwill but after seeing this?!!!! I'm going to revamp for my little sister who is turning into a little diva. She definitely deserves it. With being top of her class, excelling in the church choir, just got 5 college's wanting her, focusing like a little lady should be... this is just perfect! God bless you hun & thank you so much for the idea!
I'm so glad you liked the video. I have videos showing how I covered the exterior with some awesome vintage map fabric. I find fabric much easier to work with than paper when redoing the exterior. I'm sure your project will look great when finished and your little sister will appreciate the love you put into modernizing it for her. Thank you for watching and commenting. God Bless you too. :-)
Thank you for watching. I'm so glad you liked it. I'm trying to get up the nerve to make more videos. Thank you again for watching and the nice comments. :-)
How super cool is this, I have a couple very old suitcases that were my mom's that I could fix up. Glad I caught your video. Came to check out your channel from Sirius Hekas channel. New Subbie here (Judy), would love to be crafty UA-cam friends. ❤️
This is my third attempt at a reply, lol! I typed a reply twice on the night you commented, was almost done both times and it just disappeared! I think my laptop is possessed, lol! Anyways, thank you for subbing and for your kind words in your comment. I have a collection of vintage suitcases and traincases that I plan to cover in travel themed fabrics. I have sold a couple of them already. We moved to a smaller house and I am in the process of organizing all my craft and sewing stuff. As soon as I get everything organized and put away, I will make more videos, hopefully one of the first will be me working on a small vintage suitcase to carry craft supplies on trips and such. I would love for us to to be crafty youtube friends also! Thank you again for watching, subbing, and commenting! 😊💖
Ellie, I'm so glad you liked it. I have done a couple more since then. I plan to do some more train case videos soon. I have collected a few cases, just have not worked on them as of yet because I'm working on organizing my craft room after the ceiling caved in last year. Please share and subscribe. Thank you. Brenda
Just subbed you cos you have got me wanting to redo mine! I got three cases to refurb but seeing you work on yours has got my juices flowing. :0). TFS, hugs Tibs xxx
Thank you for the kind words and for watching. It is really fun once you get over the fear of starting the first one, lol! Thank you for subbing too! :-D
I wish you would have shown how you did the individual pieces. How did you put together the hanging file folders? I also have a question about the glue gun. Looks much bigger than the one I have. Is that the best one for larger jobs? Mine is small, the glue dries up quickly... a real pain. It might be simple, but there are a lot of people like me who are sewing or craft "challenged". Extra guidance is very much appreciated. I really liked your video. ;))
Thank you so much! This was my first traincase to do like this. I had never done this before but figured if I didn't like it, I could paint it or something else. I was happy with the final result. I know you can do it too and have fun while doing it. I can't wait to see your project when you finish it. 😊
Wow! 👏👏 Thank you so much for posting this. Do you know how hard it was to find a simple suitcase interior restore this wasn't Shabby Chic 🤢🤮?! 😅 It turned out SO NICE! Thanks again 🤗 Great tutorial!
Thank you for watching and commenting. I plan to do more videos with my train cases soon. I've collected about 10 train cases and two small vintage suitcases that I will be transforming. My artist friends like them for carrying art supplies on trips and such. I hope you will subscribe and watch when I post them. Thank you again. 😊
Love it!!! it's gorgeous!!!! I have one that belonged to my grandma, that now that I saw your video I would love to re-do! how did you glue the fabric to the cardboard pieces you put for the top and botom? also hot glue? and what did you use on the sides? it looks more than just fabrics.. on my way now to see what you did with the outside... xoxo
Thank you. Before gluing the fabric to the cardboard, I brushed the back side of the fabric with Mod Podge, and let it dry overnight, (it gives the fabric more body, it's not so flimsy feeling). I used either elmer's glue or mod podge to glue the fabric to the cardboard, it's been a few years since I did this project, so my memory is a little bit faded. I used old file folders glued to the back of the fabric for the sides (to give it some structure, and make it easier to make it look smooth). I also Modpodged the back side of the back side of the outside fabric too and let it dry overnight. Then I modpodged it onto the outside of the case. I applied the mod podge to both sides of the fabric as I applied it onto the case, which makes the fabric waterproof. Mod Podge ends up almost like a plastic coating on fabric. Thank you for the kind comments and for watching. We have recently moved and then the ceiling caved in, in my craftroom. I am in the process of getting it back in order so I can start making youtube videos again. I hope you will be back to watch. Thank you again.
Thanks! will try my best, not sure I'll end up having to through it away ;-) but I'll give it a go... thanks again for the tutorial and the tips ;-) regards from Spain xoxox
I'm sure you will do great! This was my first try at this project and it turned out good. I actually filmed it live on Ustream, so there was no hiding mistakes, lol! So cool to communicate with crafters and artists from all over the world! I am in here in West Texas in the USA. Thank you again for watching. :-)
Hi Janeen, sorry about the delay in my reply. I just used fabric and the paper was actually parts of hanging file folders. I believe in using what you have handy. Thank you for watching. Brenda
I'm doing this soon myself..I wonder if I should use a thicker piece of cardboard, as I plan to find an old mirror, cut a hole in the cardboard, hot-glue the mirror to the uncovered side and then glue the base down? Hmmmm...
I think that sounds like a good idea. Whatever the thickness of the mirror, maybe glue two layers of cardboard, or chipboard. Thank you for watching and commenting. Brenda
Thank you! It is a fun project and one that anyone can do. I have more cases I have to get to work on. Our home is being renovated right now, so I have had no time to do fun stuff. I hope to get back to making videos soon. I hope you will check back soon. Thank you for watching and leaving such a lovely comment. Please share. Thank you. Brenda
+mikaela whitney you can email them to me at fabricpaperandbeads@gmail.com. I also have a blog called fabricpaperbeads@blogspot.com. I will work on a section where people can upload and display their own altered traincases. A good reason to get active on my blog again. ❤️ it was nice to see a response from you. Thank you again.

Good job! May I suggest a small 3 in wooden roller? It'll help get the air bubbles out and flattened the glue underneath to spread better.
I found an old suitcase that I want to redo the interior of. This video was a big help in showing me how to do this. Thank you!

Sorry it took me so long to answer, I am so glad that my video helped you. I would love to see your finished project.
Wow! So beautifully done. Looks so professionally done and boutique quality 🤗💗

Did you use any padding in between the fabric and the cardboard? Or is it fabric directly glued to the cardboard?

+FabricPaperAndBeads New subbie here sis. looking forward for more of your videos.
How much fabric is needed?
I believe that a half yard would more than cover a traincase, but I have never really measured. Thank you for watching. 😊
nice clear instructions thanks!
Thank you for watching and for your kind words. It is a fun project. I hope to see what you do with yours.
