I have tested this tent extensively on our channel in all kinds of extreme weathers,as long as you pitch it properly this is a fantastic budget tent. I have seen it out perform an MSR tent twice its price. I have found that an additional guy to the rear window makes a massive difference too. And i have never had a drop of water in it in nearly four years of wet and windy camps. More often than not this is my tent of choice.

P.S. I've also got Cloud Peak 2. Tested in Alps at around 2.2 km height. Tested in a week-long storms on a shore of Arctic Ocean in Russia. Tested in melting snow and ice rain / wet snow conditions (this is where it is not performing well as of the lack of guylines on walls).
Tent could also benefit from having a bit wider flaps above the doors - it is a bit ridiculous that when doors are open, snow and rain fall directly inside the tent.

You missed the point I think - it is LIGHTWEIGHT. Remarkably so. It is also very inexpensive and very waterproof. Tie out all the points and it's amazing in very challenging conditions. Your average snow and wind included. When conditions allow crack the door for better venting... zippers are handy that way (-:

  • @DilbertMuc

There are 2 lines attached to the outer flysheet on each side that you didn't use. These two lines pull the flysheet away from the inner mesh and allow ventilation. I am suprised you didn't set it up as intended by the manufacturer. Btw. there is a new version on the market: Cloud Up 2 Upgraded in various colors with or without snow skirts.

If you have used the string on both sides of the outer tent, then you have had more air flow, then it has not become so wet inside.

I have the "skirtless" version of this tent and I've had it in everything from snow, to wind, to rain, to sweltering heat. It's a tank! And because I don't have the snow skirt, I've never had a problem with condensation. Recently I upgraded to the lunar solo for weight savings, but I will still use this tent in the future. Great tent for the price and stupid easy to use!

Same here. It’s not the thing I use the most, I like tarps better, but the only way it ever failed me was with frozen zippers after a night of freezing rain. I was dry, no issues, it performed admirably, I was just kinda stuck inside lol, it took a couple minutes to open it up :)

@@drcsep I live in Florida, so not too far from the tropics. But to be honest, this tent shines in the cold.
The rain fly (outer tent) really traps the heat in! I would hate to be stuck in that tent in a rain storm in the 80s or 90s... You'd cook!
You can take the fly off and simply use the inner tent... But you'd have no protection from the rain since the inner is just mesh.
The tent does have a small vent near the head, but it never really did any good.
Last year year while backpacking in Colorado, it was unseasonably warm. During the day, it would get up into the sixties and I felt like I was cooking inside that tent. Even when the wind picked up and I tried to open the vent and the vestabule it was still hot!

Love my naturehike tent, had the exact same tent out regularly through our scottish autumn & early winter, its been through F9 storms, day after day of rain, 5 inches of snow & has never had a single issue. When you actually run the guys out correctly & guy up the vent its a very stable tent that keeps you warm & dry with the added bonus that it weights very little making it great for low load long hikes & multi day ventures.

I've had the Naturehike Cloud Up 2 without the skirt for three seasons now, and am super happy with it. I can vouch for it's waterproofness, I've had numerous experiences with large amounts of rain falling on it. Including one night during a thunderstorm in France where I had at least 3 inches of rain during one night. Literally woke up in the middle of a small creek the morning after, but not one single drop had gotten inside of the tent. Can agree with you on the zippers though. It's not top notch exactly. I've had some problems with the zipper of the rain-fly getting caught up.

well i have two nature hike tents the cloud up 1 and the cloud up 2 with snow skirt and there a great tent at a fantastic price is it because the Chinese are ripping of the expensive American tents at a fraction of the price and made with better materials i found your review to be far to negative as for the poles there about the same as most tents and its seam sealed including groundsheet which you didn't mention as not suitable for 4 season i think that is a question of common sense (sheltered camp sites ) it will shed snow look at the design .cheers love your UA-cam page !

The footage at Summit or Nothing is incredible and I would like to see the tent performing as good in your channel (which I am a long time subscriber of). Also it would be interesting to see those tiny little stakes at work hahaha.

I have had this tent for 3-4 years. It's amazing quality for the price. I would not hesitate to take this (no skirt version) into the most challenging terrain in my state. If one wants a full snow tent ... maybe look for something else. You would survive in this, but you equally wouldn't be wanting to use that same winter tent in the other seasons as you would die in a sauna.
If anyone were to go into the wilderness without checking the suitability of the provided equipment, they should reconsider if they are capable of heading into that wilderness. The pegs are suitable for some ground types, but not all. I swapped mine out for my fav which suites my environment. If I am in sand (r snow), I would make anchors instead.
I've been in a few storms in this tent on a granite dome. The frame moves about a bit, it's fun! but the tent does an excellent job.
Zippers: all zippers for anything need a light grease with candle wax. That will service them for years. I've never had the tent material getting caught in the zip and this is after some 30 camps.
You mention at 9:14s that "if they offer a version with out it [snow skirt]" the default version is with _no skirt_.

What does pole thickness have to do with being a 4 season tent. 4 Seasons does not imply it can stand up to a heavy-winded blizzard. Otherwise, 3 season tents would need the same thickness poles to withstand hurricanes or something.
Some times, I think you just project perceptions into your reviews, and not logic... like the mental idea that you think 4 season tents require thicker poles or it's not for 4 seasons.
Also, gotta love how you ignored several people, including a fellow UA-camr, who has run this tent extensively and has a much better experience than your one night test.

That looks like the old stock version, the updated Cloud Up 2 (and 3) versions for the last few of years (I've had mine since end of 2018) have a ventilation port at the front AND back and get great airflow when you want it. I've tested mine in New Zealand winter, and it was great with the snow flaps. I've also used it in hot Western Australia - I put the skirts up out of the way when it was hot, down when blocking the wind. In strong wind where I couldn't stake it down because it was on soft sand, the snow flaps worked great for having sand piled on top of them. The skirts being down changed the high wind behaviour a lot, when it wasn't whipping between tent and fly, it stands solid against the wind. I wouldn't take it up Everest, but my experience is in line with others who have the tent.

I have a Naturehike cloud peak 2 and freaking love it. One of the Best tents I ever owned. I have a sleeping bag and gloves to. They are alright. Had better. Had worse. All In all I really like their products. Mainly because they don't break the bank and are reliable.
They may have this tent without the snow skirt in a newer model on Canadian Amazon. Not a hundred percent sure though. A lot of their gear seem to be knock offs of expensive brands products . I think Naturehike is one of the good China made companies. We often hear horror stories about foreign tents but Naturehike is rarely one of em. I would say they are some of the good guys in the budget friendly tent biz.
Befor I got mine I watched lots of reviews and all the reviewers seem to be worried about the poles. My poles never failed me and stood up to some pretty good winds and storms..
Obviously they could be built better but for the price it's extremely hard to find anything as good. For me personally. When you only got 150 bucks and need a tent, these are way better Options then wallmart brands.

Hi great review! I’m about to buy a naturehike star river 2, very similar to this one, and I don’t know what to buy, if the version with the skirt or the version without it. I like to not have a lot of airflow in the night (I tend to feel cold while sleeping) so I was thinking about the version with the skirt, but a lot of people talks about a lot of noise in windy situations and now you talk about condensation.. do you think these are big problems? The noise is a solvable problem? I tend to the skirt version because I wish to use it even in late autumn - winter (not on high mountains, not snow, but still colder temperatures), and even probably alone so less ventilation can help for make the interior of the tent a little hot, but I’m worried about noise and condensation. What do you think about that? Thank you very much, very good and professional channel

I've got the Cloud Up 3, no snowskirt, very lightweight for the money, agree, would not use in Winter, the summer in the UK has been dreadful so far, so not had a chance to use it in hot weather, I would give it 7/10, easy enough to put up when no wind, but it is so light, that when very windy, it is not fun for one one person to erect, I bought it because of the form factor, so that I could just use the inner on warm nights, to keep the bugs off, to early to say, if I would buy another or recommend tbh.

I recently found a knock off of the Mongar from a company called BoundlessVoyage at $139.(amazon.ca) I pulled the trigger on the cheapie. All I can say is for the money...WOW! You can buy a version without the skirts.
Also tbf to the tent you didn't use the side guy points to pull the sides of the fly away from the inner, they could have helped with the sidewind / wetting out issue.
Re the durability in wind there's a British wild camper who was caught out in 50 to 60ph winds and it survived the night.
His companion's MSR Elixir (I think) ended up with MSR having to replace two bent poles.
I certainly wouldn't head out with the Naturehike knowing full well it's going to get rough but it seems to be relatively durable if you do get caught out.
    I certainly wouldn't consider it a 4 season tent either 👍

I've got the Cloud Up 3, skirtless.
Have had no issues with it in terms of ventilation and condensation. One thing that I noticed is that you hadn't guyed out the outer layer to keep it off the mesh, which I find helps with ventilation and condensation quite a bit.
Also worth noting that the newer design has a cross section at the top of the tent to help spread the top out a lot more :)
Can't say I've been unhappy with my cloud up 3!
Edit: Can agree about the zippers on the inner however, does get caught if not correctly staked out. I found that if it was TOO taught, it would get caught a ton which was frustrating.

I can't comphrehend how those guys do it. The key is, you don't go to bed drunk and not be able to figure out how to zip up your sleeping bag. Condensation: who cares as long as it isn't dripping on your face. A 2" mat keeps you above water. I live in Arizona, so I am out of my depth(little joke) when it comes to water in the tent. I’ve heard the snow skirt makes a lot of noise in the wind. I don’t get it. Why do manufacturers get the season rating so wrong? Also, quality control at Nature Hike can be hit and miss. The inner mesh sags too much too. That would get annoying. And pockets? I’m going for the Cloud Peak 2.

This is my naturetent images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41EQVZTLbCL._AC_.jpg, I’ve used it in snow with temps in high teens to low twenty’s and it was great. (Also had a 4 part military mummy). Tried it the other day with temps in the mid teens Fahrenheit. But never got a chance to stay because I couldn’t get the tent pegs in the frozen ground & no snow for snow stakes. Do you have any suggestions for winter tent stakes with no snow??? Help!!!! I’m a 70 yr old newbie.

I have not bought a tent from them yet, but I did get a cot from them $130 for 1/3 the cost of a similar cot Helinox Cot One Convertible $299. Is it as well made no? But it has stood the test of time so far. I had a issue with it and they resolved it perfectly. If I get one of their tents, I'll get the model with no snow skirt. Camping in blizzards is not my style. Thanks for the review

Why feign surprise at poor manufacturing and shoddy claims? Just like any other poorly constructed product, manufacturers will add inexpensive dressing to their products to imitate actual gear. Adding a tent skirt is just adding more extra floppy material for pennies of manufacturing cost. You'll never run out of bad products to poke at, but we'd love to see a video addressing how to balance cost and function. A crap tent review is meh. I understand the desire to warn buyers, but teach to fish vs. handing out fish. Dude you have mountains upon mountains of knowledge. Tell us how to balance cost and function from the camper's perspective, not from the perspective of the manufacturer.

Summit or nothing reviewed the cloud up 2 3season tent in winds of up to 55mph on the Moors in UK. The wind bent 3 poles on an MSR pitched next to the Naturehike. Naturehike no damage. Awesome for the price. No wonder other manufacturers shudder. I noted you hadn't guylined the fly on the sides of the tent. That would have allowed better airflow and stopped the fly flapping on inner tent. Just an observation.

When Chinese guys are saying "4 season outdoor gear", it looks like they actually mean Southern China 4 season. And I actually am not joking - I really think that these guys may be seeing winter differently than we do. Though, they should have pretty decent winters in northern part I reckon.

Claims with Naturehike are imho always 1 out.
But if you forget winter they are still fair value.
But then how many makers are over the top when it comes to occupancy.
    2 means 1, 3 means 2 etc.
The only reasonably priced tent makers Ive come across that does not make wild claims is Vaude
Their 2P tent really will hold 2 people and store all their kit in the vestibual.

Whenever I look at your tent reviews for nature hike or 3f ul you never have them actually set up properly taut it’s like your showing your bias on how you’re not supporting them rather than a true representation of their functions. And since many people do accurate reviews here on UA-cam I would suggest to folks to take another watch of some of those as many show that their tents will hold up under rain or strong winds. (The only fails I saw were either incorrect pitches, not enough guidelines for strong winds or a dude with gale winds on a snowy mountain which this tent isn’t designed for)
Really dislike every review I see from you because usually too personal to the point I don’t trust you. I didn’t even watch this video I took a look at the photo tab which is the same as your others from these companies and thought here we go again this guy is showing another misleading review. ✌🏼

for a 2021 review I don't know why you're in the old stock/non-updated version, the update has vents front and back to allow air flor even with the snow skirts down. I've had mine since about 2018 and it has an additional vent at the front, like the one at the back. I had zero condensation issues with that open.

Terminator will go on as long as they make money. Same with Star Trek and a bunch of other movies. Hollywood has stopped making "new" movies and resorted to remakes and prequels that nobody is asking for. The Thing comes to mind with the prequel that nobody asked for and a lot of people had never even heard of the original.
I'm looking for a bike-packing tent...freestanding, it's own poles (not many people ride with hiking poles), 1-person, easy to set up. I'm considering a bike-packing specific tent, it uses the front wheel in the back and the bike itself in the front. Hard to steal a bike that is your tent. I'm not ready to pull the trigger for ~$400 yet, but getting there watching reviews for other tents.

You should try two tents from Norway. Helsport Reinsfjell pro 2 and Helsport Ringstind 2 pro. They are two person tents and on the website they say that they are four season tents :D I do not know which one I want to buy, but I want to buy a new tent..... it must be from a company based in a country that has four seasons, and not two seasons like some other countries.

I've got Naturehike Cloud Peak 2. No snow skirt, but holds storms and rain showers like crazy. Not so good with wet snow though - it lacks additional guylines to secure walls from touching the inside layer of the tent when holding a lot of heavy wet snow. To be fair, I hardly know any tent which makes you feel comfortable in wet snow conditions surrounded by tons of melting snow on the ground. Condensation is an issue with every tent (and every sleeping bag) in 100% humid conditions.
There also a bit of an issue with tent doors - when opened, fly is not protecting the tent from rain and snow, thus, you should make sure to get rid of snow under the tent doors when you're coming in and out in snowy conditions, you should just come in and out quickly when it's raining.
Anyways, 2.35 kilos for a full-size two person storm-proof tent at around $170 price point - you can hardly beat it.
Tested during 3 days hiking in Alps in early September and in a week-long storms and rain showers hike on the Russian shore of Arctic Ocean. Not to mention couple winter time hikes.
P.S. You have a benefit of the guylines attach points on the walls (I probably see around 6 such points which you could use - impressive). This is kind of natural to tie-out these in windy conditions. To be honest, your setup looks similar to what I do when camping drunk with my buddies on a perfectly sunny warm days :D

I also had some issues with condensation.
New versions have a air vent on 2 sides.
I am doubting to cut off the snow skirts on the sides.
I also contacted nature hike if the new outer tent fits the old bit the say the don't advise it.
But if I can buy it I will.

I bought this tent after seeing this recommendation. I needed a tent for a newbie and didn't wanna be one of those newbies that buys expensive equipment. So I hunted around on youtube and I remembered your channel and after this test. I'm fairly sure in Germany with reasonable weather it'll be just fine!
I really like your channel. I'm not a camping person most of the time, but I did used to do it when I was younger. But I like how to explain things, your other videos explains other kit I could buy if I wanted to get more into it. But I like how it's easy to watch and I find out things that I didn't know before. Thanks for making the time for the videos! :)

Good review. Knowing that 4 season tents are a compromise between warmth, protection, and breathability. It would be interesting to see which companies have managed to maintain the balance of the 3 the best. Anyway, keep doing what you do and I'll keep watching. Like you I love foul weather. I guess basing out of Arizona, sunny weather gets kinda boring.

Great review, thank you! I have a different NatureHike tent: the VIK 1. They also claim that it is four season. I haven't had the opportunity to test the four season claim, but I have had the VIK 1 in really severe wind and in rain, and it performed amazingly well. I prefer the VIK 1 to the Cloud Up as it pitches all-in-one, which is useful in rainy weather.

Luke, I have this tent without the snowskirt and I use it in Ireland in some seriously wet and very very windy conditions summit camping. This tent is a tank. That snowskirt must diminish the airflow if you've had condensation build up. I've never experienced that on my version.

I've had to set up tents in the rain so many times that now I only buy tents that can be set up without getting the inside wet. The tents with the mesh walls & roof are great for ventilation but are too exposed to put up in bad weather.
