Well I don't blame her for getting mad because of her past, but there's a reason why people abide by the "red flags" in relationships. If you were open to anything your date reveals, you're likely to settle, and there's a fair chance you're REALLY gonna regret it later on in life.

I know I am late seeing this movie, but I am surprised at some of the comments.
Unless she acted out, he never saw her as a real person. He was so buried into his fog of depression and fixating on rekindling the HORRIBLE and UNHEALTHY relationship with his cheating wife, and simply viewed her as some tool to use for that.
I know how horrible it feels to open yourself up to someone and have them JUDGE the fuck out of you or use it as a tool to hurt you later on. What he did in this scene was just as fucked up as what she did.
Look at the pain @0:42 and he just keeps on going. His mental illness and self absorption kept it from registering that he was deeply hurting a person.
She cared about him and did what she had to do to snap him out of his shit.
Nothing registered with this guy unless she went over the top. Then you would finally see glimmers of realization in his eyes.
She was actually the best thing that could have happened to him, to pull him out of his self destructive rut. Even his parents saw that.
as far as her acting goes. Like a prize fighter - if you have one knockout punch you are good, but if you have 2 you are a contender, and 3 makes you a great. She just displayed one hell of a combo of acting emotions, and was flawless with them all.
Straight up rope a dope right there.

He was a loyal man that felt the need to keep his marriage vows and work things out. He was focused on nicki for 8 months when he was in the nut house.... I think you missed the part at the end when he said that he fell in love with Tiffany the very 1st time he saw her.
He was struggling with an inner battle between him and both of those women. He wanted to stay true to his wife but he wanted to break loose for Tiffany. In the end he turned out to be a very intelligent smart Man the entire length of the movie. The most impressive part was how his character was so high when he was telling Nikki that he was done with her and explaining it in such a kind loving way that she accepted his loving kind tender breakup words .And he did make the right choice at the end and everybody was happy and healthy and loving to each other .

I love how good this movie is good at showing compassion equally:
They show the flaws of him her and the people around them all in one scene. He’s insensitive and arrogant to her in the diner, she’s inconsiderate leaving the diner and then violent then cruel outside while he feels guilty and is trying to be calm.
Once accused everyone around immediately takes action to defend her like the white knights they are, and gang up on him, which goes way beyond just protecting her.
But, seeing this effect on him she understands and feels guilty for her mistakes too, and stands up for him to calm things down, but more compassionate still, him down.
No one is perfect and everyone deserves to be treated with compassion.

This is the movies, it's fantasy that a woman like that truly exits. But it is worthy of dreaming about huh? It was believable, the faults of both of them and the faults of the people around them, but when she actually stepped up like a Valkyrie, that's the fantasy. I think we all dream of someone that actually cares, especially in the heat of the moment like that. Think I'm jaded? Maybe, but that just doesn't happen, or at the very least, very rarely happens in real life. In real life, the mental guy would be beat up or cracked or whatever, with apologies from either one coming long after the fact, if ever. More likely they would defend their actions that night if they ever talked again.

I've always wondered about where depression comes from. We have drugs and techniques to manage it, but no real notion as to source. My guess is that depressive folks are sensitive to pain energy being put out by the collective people of the world, like a battery getting charged by negative ions. So much suppression of outrage and disappointment radiating into the atmosphere. I wonder..

To be helpless in a situation like that, being in front of several people and not one person stands up for you. What she did though after that did touch me though. She felt human after she recognized that he was panicking. True compassion at its best.

The fact that a pretty 22 year old can dredge up & harness so much post adolescent angst, visceral emotional pain & pathos to such a degree is incredible, JL's grasp of & channeling such powerfully felt sensibilities & festering sensations. Amazing for someone of her youth & presumably lack of long term experience in dealing with the type of pent up bitterness & roiling sensitivity that someone much older & thus far more experienced in life's suffering would be able to understand better & bring to the surface easier, even while acting. Definitely this sign of transcendent precocity along with depth of feeling & mesmerizing acting talent on her part. The girl is on another acting dimension at times (was Meryl Streep as mature, versatile & aware of her inherent powers at that age??).

They truly think things are happening to them. Others see it as manipulation, but how can it be when to them it’s reality. A self aware borderline can get help, and become symptom free. People paint others with PD’s as evil, but they don’t get it unless they’ve had one. To them their hurt is real, because sadly they live in a trauma loop that no longer exists but their delusion doesn’t allow them to realize that. Compassion and boundaries goes a long way to helping people with PD’s get help so the cycle doesn’t continue. BPD rage is justified to them because they are truly hurt, even if it is by a delusion. How do you tell a color blind person they are wrong when they truly can’t see what you see?

"you're a conformist" lmao sorry but some of the lines in this film are beyond cheesy and dumb, nothing i or any one of my several friends with bipolar or borderline personality disorder would say. and yes, i do hang out with goths on occasion if that is your next question lol...if you want good bipolar representation, one i just watched tonight that got it bang on and actually has good acting is a woman under the influence with gena rowlands.
