EV Guru #6 : We had to tow our Electric Car!!! | Cell Issues | Feedback for Mahindra Electric
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 чер 2019
- After owning our blue Mahindra e2o electric car - T2PO for more than 5 years with absolutely no major issues, Farah and Raphae encountered our first major problem on February 21st 2019!
We were returning from south mumbai and the car had around 45% State of charge (SOC) at Peddar road in Mumbai and we were heading back to Santacruz. At a point when the SOC was 33%, the throttle was not responsive, the SOC went to 0% and the car came to a sudden halt, in the middle of a busy highway!
So what really happened! We did not understand the reason and the only option we had was to tow our car back home. We used Ashish’s e2o Plus P8 to tow our e2o. We won’t recommend this as we are not sure how the extra weight would affect the e2o Plus’s motor.
In this episode of Ask EV Guru, we will explain in detail about what we went through and why some users of e2os and e2o Pluses are experiencing issues with their battery packs.

Update 2020 : Mahindra are actually replacing individual cells for e2o owners.
Unfortunately our e2o's BMS is not advanced , so we need to take care of the cell's health as they become older.
Nowdays even scooters like PureEV's ePluto 7G has active balancing and more advanced BMS systems. Same with Nexon EV.
What is the price for the individual cells?
@@kushalraj93 Did you get an answer to this?
@@sanjuburkule I got it from my dealer here in Nepal. One module's cost is around 60-70k NPR, one module = 3 cells but you need to change at least one module.
simple solution is to add a Cell Balancer along with new 280 ah cells which cost 90-110 usd each
Educational Episode 👍

I own a 4 year old e2o. We have seen three stalls due to battery issue in last one year. They have kept the car for months. Poor service. The is still plaguing us. Mahindra claim that their cars have been driven long distances. This is nonsense defence of their unreliable product. You can not tell people who is having bad experience that someone else is having a good experience. Classic misunderstanding of statistics!
Have they fixed issue?
Did they communicate and give you options?
What is range you are getting?
@@pluginIndia Each time they boost. That is all they do and problem comes back again. I am doubtful that this boosting buisness works. I have not heard real physics explanation for boosting.
I had faced the same problem. 1st at 19% SOC used to shut down and the same increased to 33%. After a big fight they fixed it. Now it's no problem. The new problem arises recently is the IEMS as u mentioned.
Last week my car too stopped at 20% SOC in middle of the road. I switched off and On the car. I was able to reach home which was 2 Km. The Mahindra Electric Service adviser, advised me to charge the car at 30% SOC overnight.
My car showing this issue with in 4th year
Much appreciated....For this Educational Episode.... Well done Plugin India team.....for EV four wheel vehicles 110 km is not enough for Indian roads. At least the 300 km range in a single charge is required for Indian roads.
Yes u r right forget EV buy ICE.
110km is very enough. Big batterys makes the car costly - example Tesla.
More fast chargers and fast charging capability is required.
I can use my 180km car easily to travel 1000km with ease.
Thanks Team plugin India
Superb presentation
Much needed topic
Hi Team thanks for the info can we buy an e2o car of 2007 modal noe is it suggested...?
I wish I found out your channel earlier. A week ago we sold our Kwid and bought an used T2 of 2013 make here in Bangalore. The adjusted range is 70 for now. Could it be because of one or two degraded cells? How can I increase the rangee?
Ouch! India needs more EV startups, legacy people are heavily invested in ice vehicles, can’t switch quickly. Only startups could make EVs explode.
I am producing Ebikes for last mile connectivity.
I would like to meet you guys :D
Now even to get a part replaced, we need to wait for a month. Never expected this from EV manufacturer. A demotivating factor to buy an EV.
hi this issue was perfectly explained to you by Mahindra. I think keeping some spare battery cells which are determined to deliver the same capacity as the similarly aged lithium ion cell of same rating can solve the problem. Solid state batteries never fail like this and last much longer (min 800 cycles).
I. Am from Bengalore. I faced same problem, please do something. Mahindra E2O is fine except battery charging. But Service is extra worst
Nice video... Im planning to purchase Hyundai Kona so this is mucj important aspect to think upoun..
When is kona coming to India?
@@iamajay3333 9th july as said by the company..
Kona has lifetime battery warranty
Hope Hyundai and Mahindra are not friends as far as battery warrantees are concerned.
@@SripalTAD wow !
My e20 P6 is close to 3 years and 12000 KM complete. I have faced Limp Mode 'L' twice. When the car was 2 years old and it went into L mode when at 25%. Recently it again went into L mode at 38% SOC. First time i got the car pushed to my home since i was within 400 meters. Always note to switch off the car and do the push, else regen will kick-in and it will be very hard to push the car even with 3 people. 2nd time it was 2 km away and got 15 AMP power socket from a samaritan who helped me plug into his home socket. I always carry extended 40 Feet 15 AMP cable, just in case i get into L mode and find some temp power before i can reach home. Not a good experience, so i never drive below 50% or if the car is not charged in the last 100 hours. Service guys are clueless and their service has not helped me when i got into L mode second time.
We sympathize with this situation. Getting the error after 3 years is unacceptable. Yes Mahindra seem clueless how to fix or replace cells.
Hi,
I believe you guys should analyze such scenario with Tata Nexon ev
Sir, You have missed telling us about how to charge the car in order to avoid having battery cell issues or minimize it
Check older EV guru episode
I had stalling issue once, when SOC was at 17%...
How did they solve it ?
purchased a used a e2o of 2015 model in 18.06 2020. on 19.06.2020 while driving there was 60 % charge but the battery indicatioion suddenly went red.stopped the car and started again.what could be wrong
Did it start?
My friends e2o been with Mahindra service for months for one cell replacement. They replaced bad cell with even bad cell. MAHINDRA MAYBE NOT HAVE SPARE CELLS FOR 200AH CELLS .MANY SPARE CELLS AT MAHINDRA RUINED WHEN THEY WRONGLY CHARGED WITH 4.2V LITHIUM POLYMER CHARGER AND STORED THEM.
In Chennai service centre they are using 4.2v lithium ion cell charger for e2o lifepo4 cells which only need to be charged up to 3.65v
4.2v is over charged condition for lifepo4 cell. Luckily it can withstand for sometime. If immediately driven it will come down . But if stored cells will fail.
That is unbelievable. What is range you are getting?
@@pluginIndia70km range. Still at service
We have 4nos e2o 2nos e2oplus.
Out of that
3 e2o and 1 e2oplus have same issue.
That's horrible. How a EV manufacturer can do a failure like this? Even LiPo's shouldn't be stored at 100%.
@@SripalTAD do you know how much will be the voltage of battry when SOC =100%?
Mahindra and Hero both set bad examples about ELectric vehicles in 4 wheelers and 2 wheelers respectively. by selling small, powerless, sub standard, sub range car with battery issues , no active thermal management etc. It's because of these two companies Indian consumers have a bad perception about electric vehicles.
Sir muze use electric car
Do video of secand hand electric cars
Make a video on that 2lakh km car
Yesterday my e20 got stalled at 20% SOC in Delhi. Towed my car back home and put it for full charge .
Will take it to KONCEPT Mahindra okhla for checkup.
Any solution you got?
@@SwagatW not really , it was a jugaadu solution instead of cell replacement done by KONCEPT Mahindra
@@visheshkaul2096 ok. Can you let me know what they did. As my car is facing same issue.
@@SwagatW they will rebalance the battery
In Yerwada, e2o plus went into L mode at 40% SOC.
Had to tow it home and recharge full.
Got stranded in the middle.
Am concerned whether Mahindra service center do battery capacity check and fix the issue or will they make it worse?
Hi. How did you solve this
@@SwagatW Went to Unnati Service center. They do a floor charge test that costs about Rs 5000 labor charges to individually recharge batteries. This tells them which batteries are good and which arent.
After this test, my new range went down to 78km. Now I am checking to upgrade the battery pack.
@@sanjuburkule thanks for quick reply. My one battery is weak and getting same issue. I did floor test but issue is same. Should I change the cell of battery? Any after market expert do you know in pune? Let’s connect on whatsapp if u r ok
@@SwagatW share your number so i can whatsapp.
My km is reduced to 78km. Next, we will be replacing the cells. Finding How many cells to replace is not easy. It takes Rs 5000 labor charge to just find that out.
After using the car for few more days and charging it overnight daily, they will come to know exactly which cells to replace.
Hello sir. I would like to meet you in Mumbai.
I came across a e2o. It's done around 35k kms. Battery is on lease the seller says for which after purchase I have to pay rs3500 per month for next five months. Its a 2015 model. Should I buy it. Please suggest. I have no clue what this lease of battery is about.
Watch our video on buying a used electric car. We have explained what to look out for.
@@pluginIndia I saw it. But there is no explanation on lease of batteries
As we said in the video. It’s an installment system on some e2os where user less money to buy the car and paid for batteries on EMI.
So ask your seller to clear the EMI for next 5 months with Mahindra and sell.
He needs to speak to dealer.
@@pluginIndia ok. Thank you 😊
ice will not die...
Today my car charger not working all light blinking reset and fault ....any body can help ?
Does the display shows, '' turn on mains ''? Even after mains is On
Iqbal K Yes, My e20 display shows TURN ON MAINS even when connected to power and doesn’t charge. What could be the problem?
The so called "IEMS" is just a BMS. Every electric car has one. This part can be defective like every other part of a car, there is no need to blame Mahindra.
BUT: due to the batterys was so much out of balance, i assume that the BMS was defective since a long time. Then why the bord computer hasn't shown anything in the display? Does Mahindra forget to built in a monitoring system for the vital parts of its car??? If they forget than THAT'S the biggest fault of Mahindra ever.
They're selling rebranded Chinese vehicles
Typical Indian sloppy mentality, especially when they have the Monopoly. But it won't last for long. Most of Mahindra products have quality issues, but since they think they are big in the business, they care a damn. My Mahindra Thar 2014 model for instance, leaks heavily from the front, behind the dashboard. Also, the hub lock does not disengage properly, even if you do what the book says. I worked abroad for 27 years and owned Toyota's, Mercs, Honda's etc, but I never faced such problems, ever. I understand that even now, 5 years later, certain Thar owners face the same problem on their 2019 models. One gentlemen had to take his new Thar back to the service station and get it ripped apart, to find the leak, quite recently. That is Mahindra's philosophy on customer care, quality control and customer satisfaction. Learn from Toyota, you idiots at Mahindra. Just bragging through hyped advertising will not help for long.
Mr. Anand Mahindra should also look into the service matters faced by its customers as he takes interests in TWEETING EVERY NOW AND THEN.
@@alhadsabadra2288 By just sitting in a corner and Tweeting, does not solve the problem. You have to have the in born inclination to deliver quality. That's it. And that's what Mahindra doesn't seem to have, when it comes to these finer aspects of their products.
SHOCKING & UNACCEPTABLE....SOUNDS VERY FISHY & DOGGY COVER-UP...... WE NEED CLEAR & AUTHENTIC RESPONSE BEFORE BUYING EV VEHICLES.....RANGE ANXIETY & NOW DEGRADATION ANXIETY TOO......
Just forget buying EV go for ICE.
