Hi Kevin, I've been watching your tutorials and they're great, thank you! I've been struggling with vlookup but you've made it so easy!! It would be helpful if you would have a spreadsheet to each video to practise with too!
It's not hard to create the spreadsheet based on the examples he shows. I'm simply replying here before someone else replies and starts trashing the guy since that happens a lot on the net.

Firstly - Great, informative video. However the approximate value uses little logic. It initially returned a value of 50, meaning either "Doug" or "Sam" were deemed approximately "Jennifer", even though they share 0 letters and have less syllables. Also, it didn't deem "Brian" an approximate match even though it does share letters with "Jennifer". So overall, pretty unreliable tool unless you're using the exact match.
Your videos are fantastic! Can you do ones on the Index/Match formulas (I've seen these used together like a VLookup but you can return all the occurrences instead of just the first one) and Data Validation (I love using the list option to create little drop-downs)?
what about the duplicate Matt value like vlookup gets the first value, but there is another student called Matt , what about his donation. How do we handle similar names to appear in vlookup. Please tell.
Important tip for data organization: when you have a spreadsheet with a lot of columns: just make sure that the column with the lookup value is simply left of the column you want to search in. The Vlookup function can only search to the right! Good luck 😊
Thanks for the video Kelvin, I do have a little challenge here with that of 'Matt' donation, how do you go about it if you want Excel to sum up the number of occurrences for a cell. for example, in the case of Matt. let excel sum Matt's donation to $15,100.
Do you have a video that shows how to compare one spreadsheet with another? I never can figure that out when I am looking for matches on two separate workbooks/files. Thanks!
I need help figuring out what to use , Vlookup or Hlookup. I have a table with an empty column and i need to find the # of "sale ratings" . I used the vlookup and received an answer but then when copying the formula to the rest of the column it gave me an error. I have a cell range i created and named for the lookup so instead of applying all the cells into the table array , i just type in my "salesrangelookup" but cannot figure out what im doing wrong .
Please be more precise as I was typing true or false for last bit later I realised from other sources that we are supposed to type 0 or 1 ,please consider us as dumb and exaggerate every bit , thankyou

If what i want to find value is in the horizontal row , eg A1, B1, C1, D1... and my data table is in vertical format, how to deal with it ? can H or Vlook up match the result i want?
Kevin , say the students donated various amounts throughout the year and we listed these as separate entries is there a way vlookup can add all these together say for a specific person?
