Went to the Jeep safari tour!!! The most amazing experience in Algarve, a definite must for everyone visiting this region. Luis, the owner, is the best tour guide out there.
This is by far the most informative video I have seen on The Algarve. I’m doing my research and trying to plan out our route. Thank you, This video has been very useful! 😊
Cool video I have only been to Portugal once (Lisbon for 3 days and Madeira for 5 days) but never been to Algarve yet. If I do go to Portugal again, it will be the Algarve so this video has been very handy for me
Not if you're thinking of swimming and going to beaches lol! But yes, the Algarve can be visited all-year-round thanks to its pleasant climate. It might be a bit colder, but it will also be a lot more quiet and cheaper in terms of accommodation! enjoy!
Great video! Im planning on going in August and might stay in Alvor. How many days do you suggest spending in Algarve Coast? Also do you think the area can be explored on a vespa scooter?
Awesome! We'd recommend a week at least... there's a lot to see and do, especially if you also want to spend some time on the beaches as well 😊 You could definitely drive a vespa around, depending on how far the places are you want to visit. We drove one for a day but only went from Lagos to Sagres, which was the max for us in a day
Absolutely beautiful can you fly directly from Canada to the Algarve?🇨🇦 I’ll be heading there in July, but I was going to land in Porto and make my way south maybe on a train Beautiful video. Thanks guys.
I'm not sure if there's a flight to Faro from Canada directly? The main airport in the Algarve is Faro. Otherwise, Lisbon is also a great gateway. We took the bus from Lisbon to Lagos and it didn't take too long. There are also good train connections. From Porto, the best way is definitely to take the train! Definitely spend a few days in Porto itself, it's a great city
Great video! I am planning to go to the Algarve in May, do you think 2 days will be enough? I want to visit Faro, Albufeira, Praia da Marinha, and probably some other beaches in between. Also, do you know if it’s better to get there by bus or train? Thanks!
Hi! Two days for the Algarve is rather short, but you can definitely fit in some of the highlights! Are you planning to get there from Lisbon? I think the train is an experience but a bit more experience. We took the bus from Lisbon to Lagos. But from Lagos to Faro we took a train. So really depends, both are possible. Praia da Marinha is gorgeous! Enjoy your time in the Algarve. 😊
@@worldwildhearts yes, we’re going from Lisbon. I guess we’ll take a bus after all. It’s going to be a little longer trip but it’s cheaper. And then we’ll probably rent a car there.
That’s a good idea! That’s exactly how we did it as well.. or at least we had a car for a few days, and used public transportation / tours for the rest!
We rented it at a local place in town (Lagos)! So just google some rental places in the area (google maps) and then pop in. We rented for about 20-30€ for the day
As a Portuguese that goes to Algarve every single year for vacation, The eastern portion is definitely worth a visit the waters can get to above 25 degrees (Celsius) and we find it much more appealing for tourists that might wanna go to a Hotel or even explore… Edit: It’s very different from the western coast. But I’m not saying it’s better than the western coast, just for clearance.
That’s what we did! The kayak doesn’t take too long. Just start early enough! The hike takes some hours but it’s a nice, relatively easy walk so should be fine 😌
thanks for the videos! im traveling to the algarve at the beginning of november and am trying to decide if i should stay in lagos or albufeira for the frst two days for a bit of wandering around and some chill nightlife possibly within walking distance. im staying in carvoiero for an additinal 3 before i head up to a retreat in vale d'el rei...is lagos good for a day trip?
Lagos is more laid back in our opinion! But also has bars and nightlife. Albufeira is more of a crazy party scene but depends what you prefer ☺️! Lagos could be done as a day trip by train!
Quick question we are traveling to Portugal for a week. My wish list is to visit Lisbon, Porto, Sintra and Algarve and if possible Madeira. I don’t know if it’s all possible. Honestly, is day and half enough for Algarve and how long do we need in Porto. We have two teenagers. We are traveling in 3rd of week of December. Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance for help
Hi! That sounds like a lot of places you want to fit into a week. I don't think it's possible, it would be too much time transiting to the places. Lisbon and Sintra can easily be combined in a 2-3 day visit, Porto is definitely worth a 2-3 day stay (it takes about 3 hours form Lisbon to get there). The Algarve is widespread and there's a lot to see. It might be a better place to visit during the spring/summer as it's mostly beaches and I think most of the places are closed down during this time of the year because the tourist season has ended. However, you could definitely add it for a few days. It would be best to choose between Madeira or Algarve in that case. Madeira has beautiful nature, but it's definitely rainy at this time of the year. Another option is to make a stop between Lisbon and Porto... Obidos is a beautiful town in between and can be easily explored in a day. Nazaré has some crazy high waves during this time of the year so might be worth to go storm watching / seeing the maverick surfers. Apparently the city of Coimbra is also a must-visit (but we haven't been!)
We mainly traveled by bus or train. We also rented a car to get to Benagil as it's not in the city. We were there in June and it was a GREAT time to visit!
Thanks for the comment! Most people indeed speak English especially when working in the tourism sector. But some Portuguese words is always good! (A bus driver or Uber driver for example might not speak English)
Hello, I am planning a 10 day trip to Portugal in May. I have a few questions: 1. How far is the seven hanging valley’s trail and the caves from Lagos. I really don’t want to rent a car so I was wondering how we would get there?
You most def will need a way to get there, either by car or public transportation. AH! Maybe you can find a boat tour starting from Lagos that takes you to the Benagil Cave, but not for the trail. If you are based in Lagos you can trail walk to ponta da piedade and praia da luz (a bit further), you can enjoy the bars and streets of Lagos, the many beaches (praia do Camilo, Meia Praia, praia dos estudantes, etc) etc. first Car day: go to Sagres, Burgau and the west coast. See what Sagres has to offer and if you like surfing do a surf lesson there. Head up for a wild adventure to Miradouro da Cordoama, enjoy the scenery (it's a lot for one day if you want to do it relaxed, wake up early) second car day: Go to the seven valley trail and Benagil cave third car day: Go to Monchique and Alto da Foía, or do a 4x4 tour like the one in the video. I would suggest for the rest of the days to just relax and enjoy Lagos vibe, but if you want more car journeys you have Cacela Velha and it's beach, Tavira and it's Island and Silves. I'll have an airbnb in Sagres this summer, def not ready in May though ahah If you need suggestions feel free to ask.
Yes it's not easy to get there! Public transportation might be a bit tricky, you can take the bus to Portimão from Lagos (we took that bus before!) and then hop on another bus to Carvoeiro/Lagao which brings you closer to the trail and cave. From there, you could check if there's an Uber available in the area? We used Uber a lot in Lisbon, but not sure how popular it is in the Algarve. Otherwise a taxi might be your best bet (saves at least a bit of money).
With public transport, is as mentioned already (just note Lagao in one comment should be Lagoa). A taxi or uber to Praia da Marinha (PM) or Praia dos Centeanes (PC) as they'll be either a starting or end points. Carvoeiro is 2km from PC. Uber is very popular in the Algarve, especially from May. But prices aren't much different to local taxis which offer a great service. Both Lagoa or Carvoeiro are under15 minutes drive to PM. So the taxi drives won't be too expensive. From Lagos to PC or PM is about 40km, so prob around €45 each leg. Depending how many of you there are, or time available, it might make sense to do one or even both legs by taxi/uber. HTH
Hi,I love your videos ,I want to retire in Portugal,I like hot weather all year long, algarve is nice but expensive I have around 2000 usd budget can you recommend some other city, please, thank you very much
Hi! Wow Portugal would be a cool place to retire. Beautiful country. If you like beaches, but want a cheaper area then you might find something in the Ericeira area (not in the city center, but something a little outside there along a more unknown strip of beach). In terms of places in the Algarve haven't looked at housing prices, but it seemed like Aljezur in the Algarve might have a little more affordability compared to somewhere like Lagos for example.
Renting a car would be easiest overall as some places are hard to reach (like Benagil). But some places are also doable by public transport. There's a train for example that takes you from Lagos to Albufeira, Faro, and some other places. There's also a public bus. We rented a car for 1 day and a scooter for another one. The rest we did by public transport :)
Parking is sometimes a bit challenging as some places have small parking lots (like Praia da marinha where you start the hanging valleys hike). Others are perfectly fine like Benagil has a big parking space. In some towns you have to pay a fee (like the center of Lagos), but it’s very cheap
How did you travel from city to city, car uber bus. Do the have automatic cars? I never learned to drive a stick. Good video we will be in Portugal for Thanksgiving & I am researching points of interest. Thxs for your insight
We traveled mainly by bus (and sometimes by train). For Benagil we actually rented a car though! As it’s not located in / near a city. They definitely have automatic cars but they are usually a lot more expensive to rent. Have fun!!
We rented our car from Luzcar in Lagos! It was a great company. There are tons of options though, you can also check rentalcars.com to compare different options and prices
How can you do a post about places to visit and leave off Vilamoura? Probably the best place to be on the Algarve. Also Albufeira warrants being on here. Both are way better with much more to do then any of the places you've listed here. Very disappointing post

Hello,
I am planning a 10 day trip to Portugal in May. I have a few questions:
1. How far is the seven hanging valley’s trail and the caves from Lagos. I really don’t want to rent a car so I was wondering how we would get there?

second car day: Go to the seven valley trail and Benagil cave
third car day: Go to Monchique and Alto da Foía, or do a 4x4 tour like the one in the video.
I would suggest for the rest of the days to just relax and enjoy Lagos vibe, but if you want more car journeys you have Cacela Velha and it's beach, Tavira and it's Island and Silves.
