That fight with Mardy Collins stopped Melo from possibly winning MVP that season. Nobody even remembers that he was on pace to get it. Kobe eventually won it.
That fight with Mardy Collins was during the 2007 season. Kobe won MVP in 2008. Dirk Nowitzki was the MVP in 07, and no one was beating him that year. Now what that fight did prevent was Melo being initially voted to the All Star team that year. But he eventually made it anyway as an alternate.

You must be younger. In context being on Stop Snitching DvD was not a good look for him as an NBA player. Dudes who were in the video where eventually murdered and convicted of murders. His affiliation almost got him blackballed. Man at that time the whole stop snitching movement caused problems and had the public scared. It was wild back then. Idk how old you are or where you from but Baltimore was off the chain at this time. Especially with The Wire and The Corner being so popular and actually depicting how life is in Baltimore was too close for comfort.
