This is my favorite manga arc, I love how they make Platina the Gym conqueror, it also shows how talented she truly is. Every Pokedex owner has their own "thing", and it's so awesome! Platina has got to be my personal favorite protagonist.
When I read the page of Dia, Pearl, and Platinum all split up and the line "starting today, I'm alone" showing each of them in that single page, I shed tears as it shower how much their friendship means to each other
Great work again, VeeVolt. The Diamond and Pearl arc is one of my favorite arcs of all time. There's so much about this arc that I love, from the setup with the main characters, to the action, and even the comedy. The whole "mistaken identity mix-up" at the start never overstayed its welcome and set up some pretty funny moments, and even long after that mix-up has been resolved, this doesn't negatively affect the story, and sets up for a much more serious plot. Individually, each character work pretty well on their own. Diamond is such a kind, caring individual. He can appear pretty slow and almost absent-minded, but when it comes to standing up for others and doing the right thing, he truly goes all in. Part of it is because of gaining his inspiration from watching ProTeam Omega, but he is also genuinely empathetic to others, even to his enemies if they're willing to hear him out. He was able to work around the notable slowness of his team in his own way, while still using the advice Pearl gave him for building up his team. Pearl is pretty brash (no surprise) and can be impatient sometimes, but he when it comes down to it, he really knows his stuff for battling. He certainly learned a lot from his father, but he is also willing to learn from others like Crasher Wake. His impatience with others, including his companions, does create it's own problems, but he is a well-meaning individual who wants others to give it their all in whatever they do, just like he does. Platinum is an interesting individual, in the way that she has a wealth of knowledge at her disposal, as well of a wealth of money, but she has no street smarts at the start. It's nice seeing her learn about the outside world by experiencing it herself and eventually finding her own strength outside of being the heiress to the Berlitz Family. We see more of that in the next arc, too. It's also nice to see her learn to swallow her pride, since she can't learn new things if she can't admit that she needs help. Also, it's really funny to me that she beat Sapphire's gym challenge record in like less than half of the time, and Platinum didn't even know about Gym Challenges until she started her trip. They're all great individually, but I think these characters truly work the best when they are together. We see how their dynamics develop over time as a trio and in various pairs, and how they learn from each other. Dia and Pearl are childhood best friends, and their friendship just gets stronger after their trip, with Dia learning to stand up to Pearl and Pearl learning not to underestimate Dia. Dia provides great emotional support for Platinum when she's feeling down, while Platinum gives him time to open up and vent to her about things he doesn't tell Pearl. Pearl and Platinum's relationship starts out pretty rough due to their conflicting personalities, but Pearl does learn to slow down for her when she needs it, and Platinum becomes more motivated because of Pearl's training. The "Divide and Conquer" advice from the Fan Club President puts into perspective just how their individual strengths support each other, even when they're apart. It makes their separation halfway through the story really heartbreaking, even if it is just temporary. They bring out the best in each other and it's really nice. Man, I just love this trio. Team Galactic in this series is pretty interesting. Mars and Saturn are particularly silly, and Jupiter is pretty cool, too. Cyrus in this series is surprisingly chilling. I suppose that's how he was in the games as well, but something about his actions in this manga and later on Mt Coronet really bring this out. He's a cold, logical man who wants to recreate the universe in his idea of perfection, but also becomes emotional at some of the most critical times. I loved his confrontation with Dia near the end, because while Dia speaks earnestly about what Time and Space mean to him, Cyrus can not bring himself to see this perspective. It is something he does remember later, in the next arc. The fourth Galactic Admin, Charon, is barely in this arc, but it's kinda funny that he ends up setting in motion the events of the next arc right after a climactic battle. Thought the most interesting Team Galactic admin of all is also the one that no one saw coming: Sird. God I am still so curious about whatever the heck her deal is. We learn a tiny bit more about her in the next arc, but oh man, I remember when this chapter first came out and how so many fans lost their minds at the Sird reveal. Once again, great work! Your editing work is getting better with each video. I really should stop writing these stupid long comments in your UA-cam videos, man. I wanted to tell some stupid joke at the end of this, but I can't think of anything interesting.
BRO keep these long comments coming I love reading them you always perfectly explain the characters and the arc as a whole Now I’m just waiting to see when you start making breakdown/explanation videos yourself lol 👑
@@VeeVolt Glad you like them. Not sure if I will have time for that, but maybe one day I will! But probably not on this account, since this is a really old account and it's branded (?) for some reason. EDIT: One more thing I meant to mention in my previous post was that, knowing what we know from the Legends Arceus game, it would be cool to see Kusaka and Yamamoto incorporate that into their story, but I don't think a Legends Arceus arc is likely at this point. :c
One thing i love about Dia and Pearl is how their personalities are in contrast to their names, Pearl's best describes the unbreakable will of a rough diamond, while Dia best Describes the smooth reflective surface of a pearl, taking in the emotions of others internalizing them and then gently reflecting them back onto the world.
Thanks for the travel down memory lane I had forgotten how simple yet seemingly irrelevant the introduction of my favorite villain was... Charon, he may not be the strongest but the sheer drive of this man really made it stick to my mind for years.
This one holds a special place in my heart. Back in elementary school 15 years ago, pokemon adventures Diamond and Pearl was the very first volume of manga I’ve ever owned.
Its a bit weird that Cyrus had to control Palkia and Dialga just to have them fight because they're natural rivals, so they would've clashed anyways by simply existing in the same plane of existence. It is sick as heck to see one of the Team Rocket admins created especially for the Manga get such a pivotal legacy role. The reveal that she was working for Team Plasma is just another amazing moment ontop of scenes like the bodyguards getting trapped in another dimension, Cynthia Vs Cyrus and the whole final battle.
I feel certain that palkia and dialga don’t have the same mutual animosity like kyogre and groudon do. They’d likely go to blows over territorial overlap or if one insulted the other but that requires active incentivizing to do so out of one of them. If memory serves in every timeline the red chain is needed to compel the legendaries to go out of control with their concept.
So happy this video is out. This was the first Pokémon Adventures Chapter I ever read and it's still one of my top favorites! I love Platinum, Pearl, and Diamond as characters and their story was so enjoyable!
I wasn't a fan of the comedy routine thing so I didn't end up reading this arc very far. Experiencing the whole arc in this format was way more enjoyable for me, so much appreciated!
I'm currently working on a spreadsheet for the dex holders' ages, and I ran into a snag with this arc specifically. How old is Platina REALLY? Most will say she's twelve, but that's only partly true. The D&P arc started on September 28th (changed to April 22nd in the English translation, but I'm sticking to the more accurate Japanese), Platina collected 6 badges in 25 days, then one week (7 days) passed as the Sinnoh trio made their way to the Lakes. That's 32 days later, which means the Galactic bomb went off on October 30th. Platina's birthday is on October 27th, and at the end of the arc, her mother mentions that Platina was twelve when she completed the family tradition, which was when they thwarted Cyrus at Spear Pillar. This suggests that she was 11 at the start of the arc and then her birthday was brushed over to focus on the looming threat of Team Galactic (how selfless of her not to bring it up, eh?). Here's the issue: I can't find any reference to her age prior to the ending. Did I miss it? Was she presumed or estimated to be twelve during the arc? If it turns out she was twelve during the whole story, wouldn't that mean she's now thirteen instead, even though every source says she's twelve in the Platinum arc? Maybe I'm overthinking this, but it's been bothering me for a while now.
56:51 I’m certain that their swaying has to do with the fact that they are multiple stories up in a brick oven tower. The multiple floors, the math puzzle meant to gauge the rationality of the opponents, and fantine’s ghost affinity are her ways to psyche out her opponents and have them easier to fall under illusions and hallucinations. The more logical you are like Platina the more susceptible and more effective the affliction.
I always found parallels between this and Fire Emblem. -Platinum being a "royal" of sorts like Marth. Even both having blue hair. -Dia and Pearl being her retainers like Cain and Abel (green and red and similarly have opposite personalities) -Team Galactic taking over her mansion and holding her family hostage like the kingdom of Dolhr did to Marth (tho his family dies iirc...) -Legendary Dragons, need I say more? 🐉
You know, for as much as I really love this arc, I'm surprised that I never made the connection between this arc and Journey to the West. They almost fit pretty well, with Platinum in the role of Tang Sanzang, Pearl in the role of Sun Wukong, and Dia in the role of either Zhu Bajie or Sha Wujing.
Man, I really miss the buddy dynamic of the earlier arcs. PokeSpe has to move way too fast to accommodate the frantic churn out rate of the new games and never manages to have nearly as fun interpersonal connections between the trainers anymore. I also kinda wish the Sinnoh and Johto Dex Holders got to meet in the HG/SS Arc. Oh well...
This was the last era of the Adventures manga that I genuinely enjoyed, the old character tie ins were too defining to the series to almost completely cut them out in the follow series to come
I just realized after so many years that Riley probably was tracking Sird during the FRLG/Emerald arcs and it led him to the Hoenn Battle Frontier because Sird came into contact with Archie. That’s why we see Riley in the final chapter of the Emerald arc on the boat filled with passengers about to arrive on the Hoenn Battle Frontier shores.
