I'm one of those that were more attracted to the figure videos, especially regarding shma lol. I'd like to do a multitude of things for a channel, favorite franchises, gaming, novels, movies, etc. But I'm sure the more focused channels do better.
Thank you for the insightful and fun AMA! If I were to start a UA-cam channel, it would probably be quite the "variety show" of content, in that I probably wouldn't focus on just one thing. I love video games and that industry, so I'd likely do game reviews and random chats about that, but I also love movies and Godzilla, so I would do chats and reviews about those kinds of things too. I'm not super cynical or super positive, so I don't know how entertaining it would be. I love channels like yours, Monster Island Buddies, Game Sack, Happy Console Gamer, Mr. Matthews, John Hancock, John Riggs, Brandon Tenold, etc., so I would have a good variety of inspiration.
Ah the algorithm... I've basically given up trying it figure it out and just make videos I want to make because I want to make them. Even when I try to chase trends it isn't worth the marginal bump in viewers. But thanks for the explanation about percentage of of subscribers... That explains a lot, considering how low my subscriber to viewer ratio is 😆

I like the StS Godzilla game idea. Reminds me of a more advanced version of the NES game that had a grid to move around on. How critical is articulation for your Godzilla collectibles? I recently did a video on the Ichibansho Minus One statue and I’m not normally a statue person, but to me it seemed preferable to the SH MonsterArts.

I realize only the big names are likely to be successful with this approach, but I have too many interests I’d want to explore that would make doing niche content less fulfilling. Collectibles are fun and that’s what I’ve started with, but I enjoy movies, games, music, etc. that would be great to also cover even though it’s likely to lead to less “UA-cam success”.
I’ve had a fishing UA-cam channel in the past when I was a lot younger it’s fun looking back at. I’ve thought about starting a figure review channel for higher end collectibles like X-Plus and rare Sofubi, have not found anyone on here that does it in a skillful manner. I’m a filmmaker on the side I have the equipment to attempt it, just need to make the time and find consistency

I think i would have a channel that focuses on things I enjoy because that is what will keep me motivated. I believe the most important in making content is that you enjoy because otherwise it will feel like a chore and take a toll on your mental health.
I would probably have a messy ass chanel that doesn't focus on anything specific, mainly Godzilla stuff but it could be figures, writing, drawing, theories or discussion, all mixed to the point theres no consistent audience and then it sinks :)

I'd heavily disagree you with pasta example theres people who literally defend their favorite brand or line like its their homeland but other than that its quite helpful many people dont know which figure is from what brand or even where they can purchase figures from many people dont know most of the lines or doesnt have enough information so explanining those to them and warning them would be better for them as a random example if you check some of stevens videos theres people asking where they can get figures from or confusing their brand about your pasta example yeah you shouldnt go there and talk about customers who eating their pasta and tell how you hate it or yell at restaurants employees but if the person didnt even went to there and just considering to at first place you can talk about them about other locals selling same or better food for similar or cheaper prices if you could be polite and nice enough it shouldnt be a issue

So if I have to imagine how my channel would be, it would me an in-depth review that not necessarily talks about the product itself as its main focus, but focus on giving some insights as to the "why"s and the "how"s of said products. Delivering it in a non-condescending yet easy to understand sorta way. For example like how Hiya's *possible* business strategies are like and how it differs to Monsterarts, why some products ended up as exclusives, what are the external factors that may or may not contribute to certain decisions made by the company (like whether or not the start of Japan's plastic policy in 2019 got anything to do with the increased amount of made-by-order releases in Bandai Spirits as suppose to a general release. Cuz P-Bandai issa huge turn off here, given the minimum it'll cost 2x the original asking price), the likes of that. Maybe not that much differs from you and Steven, but that sorta content is basically non-existant here. Mostly the side content said reviewers would do is discussion about the franchise itself, like lores and stuff. But when it comes to products, mostly just kinda takes everything at face value. On a side note, my Ghidorah arrived. Man, that wood packing really did a number of my fingers. I gotta open it up barehands, as I don't own a crowbar. Unboxing the darn thing is the most workout I've done in years. It is bigger than I thought. I know, I could see it from every review and posts online, but in person the "feels" are different. I managed to displayed it the way I imagined it, kinda wish I could share the picture somehow, but yea issa nightmare to set up. Kinda controversial, but I prefer SHMA's wings now after handling Hiya's. Don't get me wrong, love the articulated wings, but they're soo hard to move around, especially at the base of each wings, hard to close off all the seams (but I managed to do it), all and all since imma display it in opened wings anyway, SHMA's solid piece is preferable (p.s. that darn tail truly is hard to attach. I boiled it for 60 sec each and apply it while it's still hot. Didn't expect the slight pre-posed sculpt ngl). Since you brought up Revoltech, I gotta tell you, their joints are not the best. In my personal case, kinda wobbly, it's racheted but oddly loose. However, why I suddenly talk about it right after ranting about Hiya's wings, is cuz to me Revoltech is the best when it comes to bat type wing designs. I love their Rathalos and Heisei Gyaos wings soo much. It's like made outta bendable, flexible material, but not articulated using wires, but still plastic joints. So you got a near seamless (seam still present where the joint connects, but I'm sure other companies could done it cleaner than them) wings, while still highly articulated. I feel like Hiya's Ghidorah would be highly benefitted from such engineering. I hope Hiya do take notes from Revoltech in terms of bat wing engineering, and from Playmates in terms of primate kaijus jaw articulation (those battle roars truly tickles my neurons for the possible usage of it for articulated figures). Another side note, I just find out Ricsan Custom did both Gorosaurus and Titanosaurus. You probably already know about it, but in case you haven't, there's an option for you. And speaking of niche kaiju, sadly nobody opens pre-order fro Titanic Creations stuff here, so I guess I'm skipping Yongary after all. Such a shame, I really wanted it. Hopefully someone do open pre-order in Indonesia for Pulgasari and Titanicus. It's too much if I wanna import it myself. Also, since you mentioned Lingjihun, are you interested in picking up Gipsy Danger? I personally asked my friend to do a Hiya scaled Gipsy Danger. It'll be around 15cm or so. In case your'e wondering, Hiya's scale is oddly 1:666,6. I kinda just jokingly guess it, but it was rather spot on. I'm glad that Eva Frame also used the same scale, oddly enough, despite being made by Bandai. And I used Chodo Alpha for a Hiya scaled Ultraman figures. String joints durability and stability depends on the type of bands used. My friend, Endimon Takarai (his Facebook and Instagram used the same name) is familiar with these joints. My Zilla that I mentioned back then also used string, but Endi truly tested out a lot of bands and how to apply it in a way that it's both durable and stable for posing. As for the self-import stuff, we kinda got two for imported stuff. Probably same goes everywhere. Here, one is for buying the item from abroad, the other is for entering said item here. And it was calculated after shipping and insurance. Shipping and insurance from the Western region to here is around $100 usually, could be more. So yea, it's too much Adding to it, well sometimes imported items would get held at the docks by some... ppl, for documents and stuff. *Sometimes* it was done deliberately. I would probably make content of game/movie reviews nowadays most of the scores are straight up random bullshit specifically movies you cant really trust reviewers or audience nowadays you need to dig in consume and then actually you can properly tell is it good is it bad did it worth it and not everyone has time or patience for it some times you dont wanna look a lot of places to decide should you go for it or not theres not many places with certain answers which annoying they usually tell is it bad or is it good without a deep explanation ı would die for them to state ''who would enjoy who wouldnt enjoy why you would enjoy why you could enjoy why you wouldnt enjoy why you couldnt enjoy who is this product made for who can start from here who should skip this etc'' but it seems like this is not gonna happen anytime soon

Articulation is now the biggest factor for me, but I'm not really into pre-posed statues. The Ichibansho looks amazing, though!

Some of necas Godzilla figures were hit or miss. But their Godzilla 2014 figures were great and not too expensive.
