The protagonist is innocent. Shido confesses, the woman he saved testifies for his innocence thanks to Ohya finding her even after a year has passed since that rigged trial, and he has many confidants that vouch for his good character. His record has been wiped clean and he leaves for home: a free man (but not before taking a little road trip with his friends). That's why the original true ending is Shawshank Redemption levels of cathartic. HOWEVER! He continues to be tailed by Shido's men because he's a liability to them. But they can't touch him or his allies without drawing suspicion. Here, I think this post below explains what happens after the protagonists turns himself in quite nicely: Joker's turning himself in was a Trojan Horse, essentially. The conspiracy had two major things going: first, they knew the identity of Joker and his friends, and while they might not have had any evidence on them, they would've basically trumped up charges, and they had the political clout to pull it off, especially since Joker was guilty, to a degree. That was the whole point of the Casino heist, after all. Second, they were preventing Shido from being prosecuted, since if he went down, he might bring the rest of them with him. Even with the public's heart changed, there simply wasn't enough outcry to make giving up Shido worth the risk. Joker's confession basically killed two birds with one stone by forcing them into a dilemma. He shows up in police custody, and his arrest is based on the confession he gave to Sae, one in which he goes "yep, I'm the leader of the Phantom Thieves and here's how I did it and also here's how it incriminates Shido in a massive contract-killing cartel." Once he's found guilty on that basis, the conspiracy has two options: 1. Have Joker's testimony thrown out. If they do this, Shido will still be free, but Joker will be too, and under double jeopardy, they can't can't go after Joker for the same crime again. They can try to trump up new charges against him or his friends, but that will look much more suspicious after they've already set him free once, and carries a greater risk. 2. Accept Joker's testimony and arrest. If they do this, then their greatest threat is stuck in prison, but Shido will potentially be investigated. They have to hope that Shido won't sell them out after his change of heart, since he was mostly only interested in atoning alone anyway. Sae is a devious, lawyer-y sort, after all, so either way, she "wins", but she expects they'll go for option #2 and turns out to be correct. What nobody predicts is that Joker's friends all work to get him pardoned anyway, meaning the advantages of accepting Joker's testimony also go out the window. The conspiracy can't act against Joker or his allies without making themselves more suspicious (and thus possibly getting investigated too), but it's too late in the game to protect Shido. All they can do is watch Joker and hope he doesn't take action against them (hence the men in black in the ending). gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/835628-persona-5/77382192
I actually like this ending more than the original because it’s more realistic. You literally just fought Maruki proving to him that you can’t always have the life you desire and that you have to believe in yourself to move forward in life. The Phantom Thieves will always be Ren’s friends but even friends have their own individual paths for self improvement to walk. No matter how far away they are from each other they still have their bond. In my opinion this works a lot better than the “happily ever after” ending of the original.
This technically is a "happily ever after" ending, but more realistic and much better. It's kind of a shame that P5 Scramble will be a sequel of the vanilla ending (which is not bad, but this one is better)
john clark “better” is subjective and this ending represents the Phantom Thieves individual stories in my own opinion. Regardless, I never said the other ending wasn’t “good”, but with how the story went in this version this realistic ending wraps things up in a way much more consistent with the story.
@@duongallen4094 I bet that the Kirijo Group might have a tip of shadows/shadow related research being involved in Shido's crimes. Considering Akihiko and Chie's future jobs and being Persona users from different time eras/trails, they might have some information leak of the case to Mitsuru. This is the same as how Mitsuru receives a high shadow reading in Inaba during the Dec 2011 incident. This eventually allows her to learn about the Inaba Persona users, another wild card like Makoto Yuki, which was Yu Narukami and gain trust/partnership with Naoto. Well Persona 4 Arena do show that there's possible aftermaths/consequences of Shadow related events, so Scramble might follow suit. I bet Akechi might be found alive by Akihiko and Kurosawa, the policeman/detective whom helped the SEES/Shadow Operatives after the dream word collapse. Before Shido's men could something worse, they secretly escorted him out of Tokyo to Port Island to receive his due punishment, while trying to prevent the Public Safety/Tokyo Police from using any of those findings. Considering Igor wasn't present in Ren's version of the Velvet Room but present in Yu's version in Arena, he might likely help Akechi kick out Yadolbelth's hold/influence, allowing him to fight as the true wild card. At the same time, losing both Robin Hood/Loki like how Aigis temporary loses Athena after awakening Orpheus and the Wild Card. If his atonement/starting afresh is becoming a shadow operative to prevent/delay more incidents, combat partner might be Aigis due to certain similar circumstances. Aigis and Akechi have a lot of similarities to each other in terms of character/backstory, though with some differences and perspective. Aigis might act as a mother figure towards him, as Akechi doesn't have a proper parental figure, especially the surviving SEES acting as a new true family to recover from his messed up heart. Aigis lost her soul partner Yuki and him dying on her arms was the most traumatizing event of her life, but decides to move on for his sake in the Answer. At least she might egg on Akechi to move on the right path, at least making up with Ren just once as he's still living, unlike Yuki.

There is a possibility that Scramble might pick up a year after Royal IF it gives any hints of exclusive events to Royal. Because if not(like what we do know right now), then this might pick up off from the original instead. Anyone got opinions?
This is exactly what I thought but everyone else just said "ohh Scramble is sequel to original P5". But Atlus NEVER actually confirmed that it's sequel to which P5. I think Pancake and Sumire will still be DLC judging from the recent trailer though. Please don't make Scramble like P4U P4U2 , Atlus.
I wish it's a sequel to Royal. It would be a bummer playing Royal and knowing the game isn't canon. There is still a chance it could be part of Royal. NinjaWarotMC the true endings for 5 and royal are the same, after Maruki lost his palace, his changes were gone and the events since Christmas eve play out the same way they did in the original, so Scramble can be a sequel to both
Ren goes to jail in December 24th on both games, so it could be any of them since i don't see Atlus putting an important spoiler of the extra palace of Royal just to tie the game to it, plus it would kinda spoil the palace ruler and his aftermath. Either way it doesn't matter that much because Akechi and Kazumi are probably going to be DLC to prevent spoilers and to not give a real awnser to "Is Akechi alive?" And to "Is this canon to P5 or P5 Royal?"

Me too. I want the Phantom Thieves, SEES, and the Investigation Team available as playable characters, whether the characters from earlier games are adults or come from a tear in space/time. And for P5R fans, PLEASE have Sumire playable.
All the bad endings go against the Phantom Thieves' sense of justice and morality. One of the main takeaways from Persona 5 is to face your problems head on and not run away from them. Sure it'd be "easier" to live in the dream world but then you'd just be deluding yourself by living in an illusion, a lie even if you weren't aware of it initially. Maruki, who lost all hope thought that, that was the answer to his pain...until the protagonist literally smacks some sense into him.
Part of me felt that sooner the Kirijo Group might get a wind of the situation of Shadow and Persona involvement in this case; metaverse/dream world. Also the dream world part kind of reminds me of FES the Answer; the team trapped in a world made from their desires/SEES trapped within the Abyss of Time drawn by their regrets of Yuki's death. Akechi's role is similar to Metis; partially part of Ren/Aigis's aspect of their hearts/minds. Both decide to help the protagonist get out of the alternate world even if they likely lost their existances. Also after destorying/dispelling the cause, things went back to normal; time moves forward/reality is back what it should be. Also Ren/Aigis relized their answer in the end of the ordeals in the Velvet Room.
Thanks for the video! Looking on internet i've found that after the scene where they celebrate the come back of Ren there's a scene where Ren look at the star that Jose gives you with Morgana and It doesn't sparkle anymore, can you translate that scene, please?

Sae is a devious, lawyer-y sort, after all, so either way, she "wins", but she expects they'll go for option #2 and turns out to be correct. What nobody predicts is that Joker's friends all work to get him pardoned anyway, meaning the advantages of accepting Joker's testimony also go out the window. The conspiracy can't act against Joker or his allies without making themselves more suspicious (and thus possibly getting investigated too), but it's too late in the game to protect Shido. All they can do is watch Joker and hope he doesn't take action against them (hence the men in black in the ending).

@@Kurea47 Damn.
Agree with you
This technically is a "happily ever after" ending, but more realistic and much better. It's kind of a shame that P5 Scramble will be a sequel of the vanilla ending (which is not bad, but this one is better)
Kind of disagree the other ending was better it doesn't have to be realistic all the time for a good ending
john clark “better” is subjective and this ending represents the Phantom Thieves individual stories in my own opinion. Regardless, I never said the other ending wasn’t “good”, but with how the story went in this version this realistic ending wraps things up in a way much more consistent with the story.
RaidikTheHedgehog I don’t think it will be Vanilla’s sequel, because the game isn’t out and we haven’t got anything confirmed
This ending in my opinion is a potential build up to Persona 5 Scramble.
Hopefully we’ll see more of Akechi.
Actually, Persona 5 Scramble is a sequel to the original Persona 5 not Persona 5 Royal unfortunately :(
Emil well, I’ll be damned. 😞
Hopefully we’ll see Akechi in Scramble. I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t show up.
Milo Carpenter same here ;-;
No one has confirmed it’s after original P5 yet. The gang’s on vacation months after the story, that’s it
@@duongallen4094 I bet that the Kirijo Group might have a tip of shadows/shadow related research being involved in Shido's crimes.
The things I always loved about some of the villains in Persona is how after they lose, they accept their losses like Adachi, Akechi, and Miruki
*Ahem* Takaya and Jin(also Ikutsuki)
Shido is perhaps one of the sorest losers ever. He risks killing himself just so he can kill the PTs as well lmao

To be honest I think the reason Sumire/kasumi isn't here is because she probably had to transfer somewhere and I bet their gonna joke about that in persona 5 scramble and be like she went on her own journey to do other things
But if it's possible Atlus put kasumi somewhere in the game I freaking love her and I don't want her to be gone forever
I think scramble is a sequel to the og persona 5 not the royal
Josip Pejic yeah... but I wished it was a sequel to royal ;-;
Royal isn't canon. Scramble follows with the original persona 5 so Kasumi is almost non existent
Joruno Jobāna again with this. P5R is canon. P5S being sequel to P5 doesn’t mean it’s not P5R, it’s the continuation of the story as a whole. And don’t bring that lady out here, I’ve seen that video. It’s like P4G being canon but they don’t actually mention Marie but vaguely hint about her

23:23 to 23:29, by turned into Kasumi, she means when she was brainwashed into believing she was her sister right? And not kinda just acting of her sis would behave?
24:37, I've read that at the beginning Sumire was outright delusional, wanting to be Kasumi, to not only have her skills and positivity, and inferioary complex and due ti her guilt of her death, but also the fact that if she became Kasumi, then Kasumi would still be alive. So when she says "unstability" I'm worried shes not fully recovered mentally.
Why has Ahead got "Speech Marks"?
And was her smile to him meaning something like a hint or visible telling sign?
I've read that Sumire is vaguely warning Joker he's being tailed, but I cant see any men in black. Or by "that's not good" werr there Black suited men about and "need to look ahead" was her telling him to watch out for them? And I thought the goodbye would be more emotional than "until next time"

Well, Morgana calls him b
Boss. He'll likely call him that again in the Dub.
Both Sumire and Kasumi made a promise to reach Gymnastics Internationals together. So Sumire was saying she'll grant her sisters wish for her, since she can no longer do it. And Sumire would want it for herself as well I'd imagine; it would boost her skills in gymnastics area.
@@jakeriese4862 two things though
In the English, don't most people call him Boss? (and if I'm not mistaken in the Japanese it's "Master" but that has different connotations among anglophones so the localizers changed it) It would be extremely odd if any of the high schoolers called him goshujin.

So. Pretty much a pure theory, but...
If in the secret epilogue clip(that you can only see if you completed Akechi's confidant, and I think you must also complete Maruki's), Akiren's reflection suddenly changed to his Metaverse "Joker" form, and we assume that Scramble is definitely canon, then...
I could see Akechi not being there do to not introducing him yet, he's actually dead, or he's somewhere else in the world. Sumire, well she could be busy with being a rhythmic gymnast. She seems like a busy bee. Would like to see one or both or them though, or at least mention Persona 5 Royal events. Well, we'll see when the game comes out. But the Royal ending seems like it hinted to Scramble like you mentioned. I hope Royal canon also because....I would be sad to think Sumire doesn't exist in the Persona 5 universe.
@@chrisd2597 yep, if I remember clearly, Atlus said u need to have knowledge about the Persona 5 plot first before u play Scramble. However, it clearly didn't mention on whenever Scramble is a sequel to vanilla or Royal. I do hope it's a sequel to Royal though... Cause Atlus is like baiting us to play Scramble lmao.
I get how Marie fits in P4G, but I’m lost with this Maruki-Sensei guy in P5R.

They should have added an option where you Stay at leblanc
Technically they did. It's what happens when...
The protagonist accepts Maruki's deal and lives with his friends in the dream world.
Wait, how is Akechi (probably) alive? Is it the same case as Morgana?
Either that, or he's been keeping a low profile since the arrest of Shido - because he'll still have his subordinates to deal with
Part of me felt that sooner the Kirijo Group might get a wind of the situation of Shadow and Persona involvement in this case; metaverse/dream world.
Shit why did I spoil myself oh geez oh fuck oh god.
