I love the idea that Makoto has reality-bending time powers but instead of using them to save his classmates he just wants to become friends with them before they die The despair in your voice when you realized both Taka and Sakura are locked out during their death chapters was really funny lmao (and the whole thing at the end too lol) Taka and Makoto breaking the rules of reality itself to get into the bathhouse just to strip to each other, like homies do I wasn't expecting that whole analysis about how Mondo and Taka compliment each other's character arcs and motivations but DAMN you're so right and it hurts that they had to die
Taka was indeed a true homie for also breaking space & time continuum just to have a social link event with Makoto o7 About the compliment to each other, yea... that's why in the Thumbnail I decided to make that "̶L̶o̶v̶e̶ ̶Friendship Triangle" cuz of the hidden interconnection that I think players, incl me, missed the first time About the Sakura thing + the End, Dangan 1 really does live up to it's name of Despair inducing alright, good game 😮💨😄 I'll come back wiser with my reviews ready!

@@thearghunter2053 Holy shit your brain is so big hold up- Makoto finds out about his reality/time breaking powers probably somewhere after Sayaka's death (maybe he gets voted off in the trial and after dying finds himself back in the past), when he does he immediately goes back in time to try and save her (and Mukuro if he saw her die), but he ends up in a timeline way worse that before, he keeps trying and trying until eventually (after like, A LOT of resets) he accepts that every timeline is doomed in some way so he ends up just using his abilities to help his friends as much as he can before they die (Idk if it'd be out-of-character from Makoto to reach that conclusion but the idea is really cool)
@ Thank you for the compliment and also I personally think that wouldn’t be out of character for Makoto sure he would definitely try to prevent the death of the students but there is the concept of making the future worse even if you change one small little thing and besides I’m just gonna say it but Makoto is NOT A SELF-INSERT like sure he isn’t one of the most complex characters in the Danganronpa Franchise but he’s very far from being “boring” at all imo
this play through as a concept is surely a pain in the butt to actually accomplish, and i really am grateful for your efforts! it makes me so happy that you're experiencing the characters on a deeper level and stopping to appreciate them. of course not all of the free times are perfect, but I'm looking forward to the next one!

Steel patience most likely reduces the damage taken and received by the same amount, rather than increasing your HP. Take the RPG example again. Your armor takes away 10% of damage but it's bugged and it now takes away 10% from all changes to HP, including heals. You still heal less, but your health doesn't change. It's likely they just missed a bit of code that said that if the New HP > Current HP then ignore the reduction.

That's a good point Initially reducing the damage taken but it bugs to where it accidentally also reduced heals taken may be what's going on Interesting, I wonder then what the iteration of this skill would be like in Dangan 2 & V3 (...but tbh, on the top of my head, I don't really remember this being there..?)
I really enjoy your Danganronpa 1 max out all characters before they die series (or in other words the quest to become THE Danganronpa's series Jesus haha lmao). I like that you're essentially deconstructing and looking at the game mechanics and details. There's some things I've never known before about the game by watching this video. Like, the skills mechanics and how they work, narrative worldbuilding details, how you can find some of the characters with each other in certain chapters, etc. I also enjoy your comments/discussion on what you think on certain stuff in DR1. SPOILERS BELOW❗❗❗ 53:07 - That's one of the many reasons why I find Makoto to be such an interesting character. Well, to me at least. For someone so chill and kind, he has such a low self-esteem and a somewhat cynical (plus optimistic?) worldview. The way he regards certain topics sometimes can get quite dispiriting and somber but in a beautifully poetic way lol (probably because he is also the narrator of DR1). And the thoughts he has on certain people does get quite critical, sassy and silly (but not as spicy as Hajimemes lol). Although, Makoto is very much critcal/admonishing to himself most of the time, thus really shows how much he devalues himself in comparison to how compassionate and caring he can be to others. Kinda like Nagito, but not really. Because at least Makoto copes with his low self-esteem by making himself busy to purge those self-depricating thoughts away. I wonder if this makes Makoto having a high chance of becoming a workaholic as the new version of Hope's Peak principal (plus also a symbol of Hope Jesus lol/the ones who defeated the Junko Enoshima after the End of the World/DR3 anime). And he's REALLY GOOD at not showing his more darker and cynical thoughts. Its probably because not many people ask about what he feels and its mostly Makoto the one who will ask and listen rather than the others. There's also the fact that in DR1, we can't see the MC during free time conversations and most of the game, only in CG cutscenes and the class trial, thus making Makoto one of the characters who doesn't have a smiling sprite from the first game. Despite him being the friendliest class member(?), he doesn't smile as his default expression (which most people do usually). Most fanarts of Makoto usually depict him in a shy smiling manner, but his in-game sprites don't really express that. It creates this stark contrast to what most people usually see his character as versus how he actually is (awkward smiling shy versus serious neutral expression). To me, this contrasting effect his character has from in-game versus the fandom, gives him this vibe that he's really good at hiding himself because either he doesn't like the attention on himself that much OR he thinks he doesn't deserve the attention. Makoto is kinda like a loner if you think about it. Still, that doesn't mean he's averse on social activities, it's just he thinks nobody will like and look at him too much because of how low he views himself. So yeah, that's one of the many reasons why Makoto Naegi is my favourite character in DR. As with most of the characters in this series, I find him to be compelling and complex in terms of how he outwardly shows himself versus how he really feels. Plus, I guess I find him relatable as I also have similar behaviours as to what Makoto is usually exhibiting in the series. I hope my rambling analysis of his character made sense here lmao. I don't think I conveyed my thoughts very well there. Still, thanks for the video. I hope you can finish this series on your own time. I know this series isn't easy to make hooboooooy.... It's so sad that mondo and chihiro hangout a lot together 😢 Edit after i watched the whole video now: it's very interesting the fact that the DR1 cast are the only ones that get depressed in the whole series i immediately remembered what mukuro said in DRif that "they have the strongest bound, to strong that junko knows that they will never kill each other no matter what that's why she erased their memories" and the fact that they get depressed for each other even tho they don't remembe it hits really hard for me with this little info these characters becomes my favorite, man i love DR1 so much😭🙏

it's pretty clear that it's dealing 80 eff damage (that does the perfect 400 = 5 hit split and explains the remaining sliver on 6 hits). Healing being modified by a "boost" rate of 0.8 would result in 40 hp being healed, which mostly explains the healing pattern. If we scale up to maintain 100 eff damage that means we have 5/4 * 500 = 625 health displayed as 500, aka each heart is 125 health. This does in fact explain the 50 hp heal perfectly as well. Worth noting is that both of these scenarios are, barring any rounding errors, exactly the same. To figure out which is specifically being used, you'd have to dissect the code (rounding errors MIGHT also reveal a boost effect instead of an hp re-scaling effect, but given how clean these numbers are that is HIGHLY unlikely and going to be VERY tedious.) Cheat engine might be an option.

hell yes, part 2!!!! i am loving this series. it's so fascinating to see such a fine-toothed comb run over the mechanics and character writing of the series, alongside some SUFFERING GAMEPLAY when it comes to the Steel Patience thing: the hypothesis makes sense on its own, but i don't know if just "it's just +200" makes sense when you factor in Taka's other skill. like, wouldn't those 2 extra hearts he gives you *also* have the same weirdness to them? would that actually still add up to 900? it could be, but i feel like that's gotta be wrong, right? either way, really enjoyed this video!

Without charisma you get half of a heart back and with charisma you get a full I think. That's why you confused on a Steel Patience skill. Edit: Okay, after watching more I am not sure anymore. Regarding the whole "time loop" thing you do, I think you have to finish the chapter before you can redo it. Maybe you can just start the trial then go back to the start of the chapter, but I'm not sure, maybe you have to finish the trial too. In any case, you have to be a little patient to be able to loop back where you'd like. If you insist on not doing that, that's fair, but enjoy suffering 🙃

Makoto finds out about his reality/time breaking powers probably somewhere after Sayaka's death (maybe he gets voted off in the trial and after dying finds himself back in the past), when he does he immediately goes back in time to try and save her (and Mukuro if he saw her die), but he ends up in a timeline way worse that before, he keeps trying and trying until eventually (after like, A LOT of resets) he accepts that every timeline is doomed in some way so he ends up just using his abilities to help his friends as much as he can before they die
(Idk if it'd be out-of-character from Makoto to reach that conclusion but the idea is really cool)

Well, it's not *as* tedious but the difficulty definitely spikes here 🤐
Steel patience most likely reduces the damage taken and received by the same amount, rather than increasing your HP.
Take the RPG example again. Your armor takes away 10% of damage but it's bugged and it now takes away 10% from all changes to HP, including heals. You still heal less, but your health doesn't change.
It's likely they just missed a bit of code that said that if the New HP > Current HP then ignore the reduction.

I really enjoy your Danganronpa 1 max out all characters before they die series (or in other words the quest to become THE Danganronpa's series Jesus haha lmao). I like that you're essentially deconstructing and looking at the game mechanics and details. There's some things I've never known before about the game by watching this video. Like, the skills mechanics and how they work, narrative worldbuilding details, how you can find some of the characters with each other in certain chapters, etc. I also enjoy your comments/discussion on what you think on certain stuff in DR1.

53:07 - That's one of the many reasons why I find Makoto to be such an interesting character. Well, to me at least. For someone so chill and kind, he has such a low self-esteem and a somewhat cynical (plus optimistic?) worldview. The way he regards certain topics sometimes can get quite dispiriting and somber but in a beautifully poetic way lol (probably because he is also the narrator of DR1). And the thoughts he has on certain people does get quite critical, sassy and silly (but not as spicy as Hajimemes lol).
Although, Makoto is very much critcal/admonishing to himself most of the time, thus really shows how much he devalues himself in comparison to how compassionate and caring he can be to others. Kinda like Nagito, but not really. Because at least Makoto copes with his low self-esteem by making himself busy to purge those self-depricating thoughts away. I wonder if this makes Makoto having a high chance of becoming a workaholic as the new version of Hope's Peak principal (plus also a symbol of Hope Jesus lol/the ones who defeated the Junko Enoshima after the End of the World/DR3 anime).
And he's REALLY GOOD at not showing his more darker and cynical thoughts. Its probably because not many people ask about what he feels and its mostly Makoto the one who will ask and listen rather than the others. There's also the fact that in DR1, we can't see the MC during free time conversations and most of the game, only in CG cutscenes and the class trial, thus making Makoto one of the characters who doesn't have a smiling sprite from the first game. Despite him being the friendliest class member(?), he doesn't smile as his default expression (which most people do usually).
Most fanarts of Makoto usually depict him in a shy smiling manner, but his in-game sprites don't really express that. It creates this stark contrast to what most people usually see his character as versus how he actually is (awkward smiling shy versus serious neutral expression). To me, this contrasting effect his character has from in-game versus the fandom, gives him this vibe that he's really good at hiding himself because either he doesn't like the attention on himself that much OR he thinks he doesn't deserve the attention. Makoto is kinda like a loner if you think about it. Still, that doesn't mean he's averse on social activities, it's just he thinks nobody will like and look at him too much because of how low he views himself.
So yeah, that's one of the many reasons why Makoto Naegi is my favourite character in DR. As with most of the characters in this series, I find him to be compelling and complex in terms of how he outwardly shows himself versus how he really feels. Plus, I guess I find him relatable as I also have similar behaviours as to what Makoto is usually exhibiting in the series.
I hope my rambling analysis of his character made sense here lmao. I don't think I conveyed my thoughts very well there. Still, thanks for the video. I hope you can finish this series on your own time. I know this series isn't easy to make hooboooooy....

Edit after i watched the whole video now: it's very interesting the fact that the DR1 cast are the only ones that get depressed in the whole series i immediately remembered what mukuro said in DRif that "they have the strongest bound, to strong that junko knows that they will never kill each other no matter what that's why she erased their memories" and the fact that they get depressed for each other even tho they don't remembe it hits really hard for me with this little info these characters becomes my favorite, man i love DR1 so much😭🙏

it's pretty clear that it's dealing 80 eff damage (that does the perfect 400 = 5 hit split and explains the remaining sliver on 6 hits). Healing being modified by a "boost" rate of 0.8 would result in 40 hp being healed, which mostly explains the healing pattern.
If we scale up to maintain 100 eff damage that means we have 5/4 * 500 = 625 health displayed as 500, aka each heart is 125 health. This does in fact explain the 50 hp heal perfectly as well.
Worth noting is that both of these scenarios are, barring any rounding errors, exactly the same. To figure out which is specifically being used, you'd have to dissect the code (rounding errors MIGHT also reveal a boost effect instead of an hp re-scaling effect, but given how clean these numbers are that is HIGHLY unlikely and going to be VERY tedious.)
Cheat engine might be an option.

when it comes to the Steel Patience thing: the hypothesis makes sense on its own, but i don't know if just "it's just +200" makes sense when you factor in Taka's other skill. like, wouldn't those 2 extra hearts he gives you *also* have the same weirdness to them? would that actually still add up to 900?

Regarding the whole "time loop" thing you do, I think you have to finish the chapter before you can redo it. Maybe you can just start the trial then go back to the start of the chapter, but I'm not sure, maybe you have to finish the trial too.
In any case, you have to be a little patient to be able to loop back where you'd like. If you insist on not doing that, that's fair, but enjoy suffering 🙃

I just side with BOTH sides of the fandom where one sees Chihiro as an eventual stronger guy (great fanarts there btw, I saw a good comic in Pixiv where Tall Chihiro is shipped with Celeste, it's very cute 🤭)
and the other where they sometimes tease Chihiro as a Femboy (also has lots of cute fanart + don't worry he's still respected as a male, he's just teased in a Healthy / non toxic way like other anime characters like Nagisa from assassination Classroom or Venti from Genshin)
