    On observation on the jumps... I'm 46 and didn't make any meaningful attempt to learn to jump until a few weeks ago when I went to Bentonville (been XC riding my entire life). Like you mention, you see teens who are sending it over those jumps like a boss and it's kind of intimidating/discouraging. I found what helped me was (to finally) not be afraid to make a mistake (even in front of kids), ask for help if you need it e.g. ask for someone to tow you in, and finally -- most importantly, repetition. One kid, who was an insanely good rider, told me he and his friends rode that jump line for 4 hours a day for weeks after it was built. I think as adults we feel if we don't get it right by the 3rd or 4th try we just kinda give up and move onto something else. It took about 10 passes through, but I did eventually clear all the jumps in that line and it was biggest rush I have had on a bike in a long time! :-) So keep at it! I also think showing your mistakes and progression makes for really good UA-cam. It's honest and shows the experience most riders will face in trying new features.
    Sweet sends over those big drops. Good vid as always!

      Practice makes perfect. Unfortunately, we don't have much time to spare to just practice. In the event that we do have time, then it's a rare opportunity to just enjoy riding in the moment. Maybe one day when the channel grows and I don't have to spend so much time at my 'day job', then I can practice whenever I'm not working on videos or dealing with daily responsibilities. Glad you enjoy our vids. 😁

    • @dukeofmtb

      It's when the trail is slanted instead of flat. There's less traction in off camber sections, so it feels sketchy.

    Any suggestions on a hardtail that can handle jumps/drops in the $1500 area?

    • @dukeofmtb
      @dukeofmtb  2 роки тому

      Commencal Meta HT, Nukeproof Scout, Marin San Quentin, and Canyon Stoic just off the top of my head. Pretty much any 'aggressive' hardtail, then just find one with specs in your budget. You can always upgrade the fork, brakes, and dropper later.
      If you can up your budget to 2k, you can get a bike that won't need upgrades and'll be cheaper in the long run. The Canyon Stoic 4 would be my top pick right now. The NX derailleur will probably give out after a year or two, but the rest of the spec is solid.

      4'11 ‐ Cory's the most comfortable on bikes with a reach of 365mm to 390. That's the reach on her hardtail, and her Strega(Nomad V4 in XS). If it wasn't for the Juliana Strega, she'd be on a kids bike like the Clash Junior or something.

      Wow. That's awesome. Shredding at 63. 👍
      I just get a little envious of the folks that started riding young and can do all sorts of cool things with their bikes.

    • @zxtenn
      @zxtenn 3 роки тому +2

      @@dukeofmtb Actually i will be 66 in December, my 1st FS bike was the 2018 Spectral 6.0 AL, not sure if i will replace my 2019 Instinct BC or not yet? I really am a Blue trail rider so not 100% necessary that i have an Enduro bike, might be nice to have a shorter travel 24 pound bike. Once in a while i went to Asheville but still rode the Blue trails which can be difficult enough and climbing with those huge roots made for some walking over them, climbing is great to build endurance and bike control but NO fun while you're doing it, the gym is much cheaper and safer but still on the fence about getting another bike. You both get around to different States which can be fun.
      Some kids/riders have balance like a cat and become great riders quickly just like those in gym class that picked up a bat and glove then made the baseball team while others really have to work or dont have that athletic coordination. I watch BKXC and he has ridden with riders and guides better than him especially when trying to do jumps, etc. Check out Rich Drew, he is an AMAZING rider and about 50, also has a Brother thats an excellent rider, they both give riding 'clinics' from time to time for serious riders.
