Gatlinburg, Tennessee Downhill Bike Park OPENING DAY

- Here's a quick edit to showcase Tennessee's newest bike park and first ever lift access downhill mountain biking at Ober Gatlinburg!
I had an absolute blast and will definitely be going back. I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised at how well the trails flowed. It was definitely a bit lacking on the technical side, but it more than made up for it with flow and speed. I'm certain as Ober progresses, there will be trail additions that will fill those technical voids and offer up even more variety and mileage.
Regarding the wooden drop on the double black trail, Hellbender, we definitely put it on the shelf for another day. It's closer in comparison to the road gap at the Beech Mountain and Cupcake at Snowshoe than we expected. The landing is steep and very short. None of my immediate group was really feeling great about the speed needed, and I'm trying harder to not constantly put pressure on myself to always hit everything the first time I go somewhere new. I'll definitely be back for revenge on that drop.

So glad they have put something up there instead of a ski resort noone attended. Finally my state has something I can actually enjoy when we go to gatlinburg.
I remember skiing there years ago....I guess its since died off ?
Thanks for covering this. The trails do look extremely easy. Hope they add some tech and features over time.
i'm a beginner mtb-er but i was shocked that the harder trails didn't look scary. looks fun glad that gatlinburg has something like this for next time i go to Southern disneyland!
We were there the following day, with my 10 year old. The lift broke but they transitioned to shuttles and it was ok. I agree with your ending comments. The trails are ok, showing great potential. I wouldn't make a trip here with my riding buddies, there are just better options in the SE. However if you are in the area doing Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg stuff with your family, now you can bring your bike!
Don’t forget about the downhill trails about 45 min away in Townsend, TN too. Not shuttled though.
@@letour32rr How are they with E-bikes there. Got bad knee need it to climb back up hills.
@@TENNESSEETRACKHAWK they are allowed and the shop at the base of the mountain rents them if you don’t have one.
@@letour32rr awesome thanx for the reply appreciate it!
Well. With the roads through banner elk now gone. Its gonna he a long time before beech mountain and sugar mountain are accessible again. So its looking like here and windrock are the places to be right now.
I’m so stoked to see these trails open, Gatlinburg has always been a favorite of mine, now with these trails I’m hyped to get back up there..and shred..
Thank you so much for this video. I am going with my family to pigeon Forge in two weeks to meet up with my inlaws . My wife ,son and I are going to stop by Brevard for a few days before that. I thought I would be done biking when we head up to Tennessee but I guess I will have to check out this park.😂
I was in Pigeon Forge in October.. I didn’t know about this. I can’t wait to go back and ride it.
Thanks for taking one for the team and reviewing this new lift park on opening day! The thought of visiting Gatlinburg on Memorial Day weekend is too much for me. Park looks great and it has a lot of potential. Great video!
Thanks! I definitely wasn’t going to do it Sat-Mon. I’d say it could get pretty clogged up at the lift until they get that thing sped up.
@@DrJMTBunless it's got the capability of those high speed lifts that slow down on the pickup, it's a law that it has to maintain that slow speed.
Still better than pedaling though!
Rode there today after the rain and had a great time. Blacks were way to slick to be any fun. Thanks for the great video, I'm about to buy some of those TN one up gloves now, hahaha
Oh man, might be time for a trip up that way 🤘
It’s no Kanuga, but it may be a worthwhile change up still not too far from you 🤙🏼
A trip combining this and Vee Hollow looks very tempting!
I love bakers creek. Tried Windrock and got humbled. Tried the place in townsend and its ok. Having Ober as a bike park is some awesome news to me. I'm excited as heck to go try it out. I'll be on the green trails but if you hear a grown man screaming like a kid at Christmas, you know its me.
Thanks for sharing this. DIdn't realize this was a p roject. smart for Gatlinburg to adapt - went there all the time int he 90s. Will have to take the family down for a visit soon
nice trails, downhills look sweet, some nice riding skills
Trails look great! Can’t wait to enjoy them myself.
Thanks for the goosebumps ❤
Nice! It looked like this has good progression from green to blue to black to double black. Looks like a wide variety of skill levels could have a pretty good day there. AKA I need beginner friendly for downhill. 😂
You guys should go!
@@DrJMTB We will show up in a spandex cross country kit and the blurs and be like, “Hey bro, which way to the lift?”

Same background here
Have the baggies but need a full face
Already will be there in July celebrating our wedding anniversary
Bikes are prolly gonna get a road trip!!!
Nice - I’ll have something to do on the annual family g-burg trip now! Haha
Love your stuff in Jamaica 🇯🇲 it is nighttime here 😅
Great video! We are excited to give this a try. Our channel is doing a what's new in Gatlinburg video and wanted to see if we could use some of this footage in the video. Of course, we would credit your channel on screen and link in the description. Great presentation here!
Go for it 🤙🏼. Thanks a bunch
@@DrJMTB Awesome! Thanks so much. Subbed while I was here as well!
Looks super chill... Hopefully they plan on building nastier dh trails and they definitely need a flow trail with bigger jumps.
I live in Sevierville but haven’t done any mtn biking but I’m about to get into it. Trails don’t look too hard
At beech. Just step off and to the side. They do move kinda fast but if you dont just walk straight out in front of it. Its pretty easy.
Could a hardtail be on that trail?
Oh yeah, just be careful with lines🔥🔥🔥
I cant wait till sept will be the wifes first time ever doing MTB and my first time in awhile do they have rentals?
They sure do
Nice video! I was just wondering what camera you use, I'm looking into getting one to film as well and was wondering what you use as well as any opinions you have on it.
Looks like an Enduro bike kinda day? Leave the DH rig on the hitch?
For sure. Trail bike would do fine really.
it looks like so much fun, but im a newer rider and thats terrifing
how big is the wooden drop ??
Just a random question. Is the parking area close to the lift ? Heading down there Oct 6 for the last Friday they are open for the season
We were able to park as close to the lift is anywhere I’ve ever been for skiing or biking. It was extremely close. That being said, if that upper lot fills up, there are lower overfill lots if you don’t get there early.

Thats freaking awesome bro! Im moving to Kingsport soon and was wondering if they had anything down there and that looks freaking dope thanx for posting really appreciate it im only like 1:30 min away psyched!
Rad Ray is a great guy. Met him at Windrock DHSE.
Ray is the man I agree!
Legit! How does the lift take to get up the hill?
I never timed it, but it’s probably about 10-12 minutes at least
@@DrJMTB thanks
What vehicle do you use for your trips?
A Promaster is what I started with… ua-cam.com/users/shortsvydvOWR3630?si=l216VkgPHLXBTruk. I’m now in a Sprinter 144 🤙🏼
It’s cool to see this because a black there would be a green in MA
Pretty tough to see how steep it is from UA-cam
@@ryanakinsdoesn’t look very chunky though
@@MPHshoots it’s not, it’s steep loam
Do they charge?
When did Gatlinburg build a park? 😮
Can't find it online anywhere. What's it name?
Ober Gatlinburg. It’s Gatlinburg’s ski resort. It opened the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. So it’s brand new.
@@blakebeverly84 thank you!
Where’s the gnar at though :/
Place looks like it sucks. The flow trails look pretty bad and definitely need more and bigger jumps. The Tech looks ok but the runs are too short. I’d give this place a solid 5/10. It definitely needs a lot of help. The lift looks annoying too because of how slow it is.
How much do they charge for the lift?
$49 for the day
@@DrJMTB thx
My friend put this bike together for his son and before I knew it he was done ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L When the son came to put it together he was surprised to see it was already done. All he had to do was take the bike to get air and be on his way. My friend did not have any major problems putting this bike together; small issue was putting one of the brakes on straight; however when the son got home he was able to fix it. The bike rides well gears move correctly; good bike for the price. Wrote review after the son took the bike. Sorry.
Sucks they only open during the weekend. And bike rental is quite expensive. 75 USD per day and not even DH bikes...I'm coming from abroad and thinking either buy a YT. Want to visit my relatives in Knoxville and go biking.
No sure where else in the US you have priced bike rentals but that is defiantly on the less expensive side than what I have seen.
If you like nothing but going downhill it’s for you. Personally I like a lot of climbing.
Very meh looking
