"It was only fate and thousands of miles of ocean that ensured American independence."
Oh, and the fact that the French and Spaniards financed the whole American economy, sent weapons, officers, advisors and supplies, not to mention entire freaking armies (like the joint French-Spanish expeditionary force kicking the British out of the midwest), plus the sea blockade they mounted, preventing the British empire from sending reinforcements. Oh, and the fact that both French and Spaniards declared war on the British empire at once and threatened to invade the mainland, to the point that the British empire had to focus on defense rather than quelling the US rebellion.
The US war for independence was nothing but a proxy was in a much larger world war.

It's still somewhat true that the Ocean saved them. European powers were easily fielding armies in the 100 000 range at the time while the Americans mustered 10 000 for their largest battle in the revolution at Long Island. They had the home advantage. The Spanish and French did help significantly of course.

I’ve actually done furniture work for Northrop Grumman in Cincinnati Ohio. They’re currently working on some type of “laser”. There was one building my company wasn’t allowed to have their phone in at all. The other building the room we were doing was the single place we couldn’t have our phones. There wasn’t even anything we could possibly access in the single room and we weren’t allowed to have out phones. It was amazing
